Daren Brown has joined the Seattle Mariners to serve as third base coach in the absence of Jeff Datz, who is battling cancer. Brown had been managing the organization's Triple-A Tacoma affiliate. Minor league catching coordinator John Stearns, who had been filling in for Datz, will replace Brown at Tacoma.

The Seattle Mariners named Daren Brown the interim manager Monday, Aug. 9, according to ESPN.com. Brown managed Triple-A Tacoma for the last four seasons.
