Blue Jays | Jimmy Paredes starting at 2B

Thu, 19 May 2016 14:00:27 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jimmy Paredes will be starting for the second straight day Thursday, May 19. He's in the lineup playing second base and batting seventh against Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana.

Fantasy Tip: Paredes is a real interesting player right now, as he was only claimed by the Blue Jays earlier this week, yet here he is drawing another start. His flexibility definitely helps towards his value, but considering Ryan Goins provides little pop at second, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Paredes ultimately take over the job, though Devon Travis will be back soon. He's at least worth a flier in AL-only formats.

Blue Jays | Josh Donaldson with day off

Wed, 18 May 2016 12:49:37 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 3B Josh Donaldson is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 18. OF Jimmy Paredes is starting at third base and is batting sixth against Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi.

Fantasy Tip: This will be Paredes' first start with his new team. He was injured to begin the year after he hit .275 with 10 home runs and 42 RBI for the Orioles in 2015. He likely peaked last year and will struggle to find playing time with Toronto unless an injury opens up a regular role. He's merely for depth in AL-only universes.

Blue Jays | Jimmy Paredes claimed by Toronto

Mon, 16 May 2016 10:14:37 -0700

The Toronto Blue Jays claimed OF Jimmy Paredes off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles Monday, May 16, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Paredes hasn't played yet in 2016 due to an injury, but he likely peaked with Baltimore last year when he hit .275 with 10 home runs and had 42 RBI in 363 at-bats. He might have a better path to playing time in Toronto than he did in Baltimore, but Paredes remains nothing more than a speculative depth addition in AL-only leagues.

Orioles | Jimmy Paredes set to begin rehab stint

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 15:18:47 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Jimmy Paredes (wrist) will begin his rehab assignment with Class AA Bowie Tuesday, April 26.

Fantasy Tip: Paredes' likely lack of playing time will limit his upside in all fantasy formats, and he also struggled with a .229/.270/.317 slash line from May 28 through the end of last season. There isn't a lot to like about him outside of being a depth option in AL-only formats.

Orioles | Jimmy Paredes making progress

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 14:00:21 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Jimmy Paredes (wrist) received nine at-bats during an extended spring training game Thursday, April 21. He is scheduled to work out with the Orioles Monday, April 25, then will start a rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Paredes is a few weeks away from returning but may be a bench option when he returns because Joey Rickard and Nolan Reimold have been playing well. Paredes likely is a AL-only player at this point, while Rickard and Reimold could be used in deeper mixed leagues.

Orioles | Jimmy Paredes close to rehab assignment

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 15:01:54 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Jimmy Paredes (wrist) played left and right field in extended spring training Tuesday, April 19, and could start a rehab assignment as soon as Monday, April 25. The Orioles want him to receive around 20 at-bats at extended spring training. Manager Buck Showalter thinks Paredes will "move fast" on his rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: Paredes looks like he'll be fully healthy soon. But the bad news is he might not receive much playing time with Joey Rickard and Nolan Reimold playing well in the O's outfield. Hyun-soo Kim is also around. Paredes should only be owned as a bench guy in the deepest of AL-only leagues.

Orioles | Jimmy Paredes close to game action

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 15:34:33 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Jimmy Paredes (wrist) will play an extended spring training game Monday, April 18.

Fantasy Tip: Paredes is a depth option in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. However, the playing time might not be as abundant this season, and he really struggled after a hot start last year with a .229/.270/.317 slash line from May 28 through the end of the season.

Orioles | Jimmy Paredes takes BP

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 14:25:35 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Jimmy Paredes (wrist) took batting practice from the coaches Tuesday, April 12.

Fantasy Tip: Paredes will likely need a rehab assignment before he's activated. The bad news is that the emergence of Joey Rickard will make it even more difficult for Paredes to find everyday at-bats once he's healthy. Baltimore also has Hyun-soo Kim and Nolan Reimold on roster. Paredes, at best, is a bench option in deep AL leagues.
