Astros | Marwin Gonzalez sitting vs. Detroit

Thu, 21 May 2015 07:58:11 -0700

Houston Astros SS Marwin Gonzalez is not in the starting lineup against the Detroit Tigers Thursday, May 21. SS Jonathan Villar is batting seventh and starting at shortstop Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Facing tough-lefty David Price, Villar ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) should be viewed as nothing more than a desperation flier. Make sure to avoid Gonzalez ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) in all fantasy formats Thursday, too.

Astros | Marwin Gonzalez resting

Tue, 19 May 2015 16:25:44 -0700

Houston Astros SS Marwin Gonzalez is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 19. SS Jonathan Villar is starting at the 6 and hitting ninth in the batting order against Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray.

Fantasy Tip: Villar ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) should be of no interest to FantasyScore gamers this evening against Gray.

Astros | Luis Valbuena sitting Monday

Mon, 18 May 2015 13:51:24 -0700

Houston Astros 3B Luis Valbuena is not in the starting lineup against a left-handed hurler Monday, May 18. SS Jonathan Villar is starting at the hot corner and hitting second in the batting order against Oakland Athletics SP Drew Pomeranz.

Fantasy Tip: Villar ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is hitting .238 (10-for-42) with no home runs and four RBI in 19 games for Houston. He's just 4-for-20 (.200) with three RBI batting right-handed against lefties this year, too. Villar isn't the best shortstop option you have this evening in daily games.

Astros | Marwin Gonzalez not in the lineup

Sun, 17 May 2015 08:18:08 -0700

Houston Astros SS Marwin Gonzalez is not in the starting lineup Sunday, May 17. SS Jonathan Villar will be the starting shortstop for the Astros.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has played in six of the last seven games and likely is receiving a day off. Villar ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is only his playing better in May but is still hitting only .205 this season and is not a great option on FantasyScore.

Astros | Jonathan Villar starting again at short

Thu, 14 May 2015 13:27:54 -0700

Houston Astros SS Jonathan Villar is batting ninth and starting at shortstop against the Toronto Blue Jays Thursday, May 14.

Fantasy Tip: Villar ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) started Wednesday, May 13, too, and it appears the Astros are in a full-blown platoon at shortstop. Marwin Gonzalez ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) and Villar have each started three of the last six games. They're both low-end AL-only options in seasonal leagues, unless either pulls away and earns the majority of the starts. FantasyScore players should view each as a desperation source of cap relief. Carlos Correa, the team's top prospect, could take over everyday duties at short sooner than later, especially if he continues to mash in the minors. He is worth stashing in deep formats.

Astros | Marwin Gonzalez sitting vs. Giants

Wed, 13 May 2015 14:56:09 -0700

Houston Astros SS Marwin Gonzalez is not in the starting lineup against the San Francisco Giants Wednesday, May 13. SS Jonathan Villar is starting at shortstop and batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) and Villar ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) could enter a platoon with Jed Lowrie (thumb) on the 60-day disabled list, but neither boast significant upside for seasonal leagues. FantasyScore players should view Gonzalez and Villar as low-priced desperation plays, until either proves otherwise.

Astros | Marwin Gonzalez out against Halos

Thu, 07 May 2015 15:53:12 -0700

Houston Astros SS Marwin Gonzalez is not in the starting lineup Thursday, May 7. SS Jonathan Villar is starting at shortstop and hitting ninth in the batting order against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago.

Fantasy Tip: Villar ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) shouldn't excite any FantasyScore owners tonight, especially while hitting ninth. Pass.

Astros | Luis Valbuena on the bench

Sun, 03 May 2015 10:58:23 -0700

Houston Astros 3B Luis Valbuena is not in the starting lineup Sunday, May 3. SS Jonathan Villar will be the starting third baseman for the Astros.

Fantasy Tip: Valbuena ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has had some problems at the plate and is receiving a day off. Villar ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is only hitting .182 this season and is not a great option for owners on FantasyScore.

Astros | Jed Lowrie receiving day off

Mon, 13 Apr 2015 14:42:52 -0700

Houston Astros SS Jed Lowrie is not in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics left-handed SP Scott Kazmir Monday, April 13. SS Jonathan Villar is starting at shortstop and hitting seventh in the order.

Fantasy Tip: Villar ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) should be considered a weak play Monday going against Kazmir, who was very sharp in his first outing of the 2015 season last week.

Astros | Jonathan Villar could move around IF

Sun, 22 Feb 2015 14:58:27 -0800

Houston Astros SS Jonathan Villar may see some games at second and third base during spring workouts.

Fantasy Tip: If the plan works it could increase Villar's fantasy value during the season because he could gain utility status. He hit seven homers in 263 at-bats, but that .209 batting average makes owners cringe. Villar's value is lower until that average comes up.
