Brewers | Jonathan Villar shines in loss

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 16:28:23 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SS Jonathan Villar went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk Thursday, April 28, against the Chicago Cubs. He also stole three bases.

Fantasy Tip: With Scooter Gennett landing on the disabled list, Villar's impact could potentially stretch a bit further within the fantasy landscape. That has much to do with him being bumped up in the batting order, as he's now hit in the leadoff spot in two straight games. Owners in deep leagues should give him a look, especially if he becomes more aggressive on the basepaths like he was Thursday afternoon.

Brewers | Two Brewers sit Thursday

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 08:13:00 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers 2B Scooter Gennett (oblique) and OF Domingo Santana are out of the lineup Thursday, April 28. SS Jonathan Villar is leading off, OF Alex Presley is second and 2B Yadiel Rivera hits eighth.

Fantasy Tip: None of the three are daily options at face value. Add in the fact that they're facing Jake Arrieta, the hottest pitcher in baseball for the last calendar year, and pass on those three.

Brewers | Scooter Gennett scratched Tuesday

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 16:59:23 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers 2B Scooter Gennett (undisclosed) was scratched from the lineup Tuesday, April 26. 2B Yadiel Rivera will be inserted in his place at second base, while SS Jonathan Villar moves up to second in the batting order opposite Chicago Cubs SP Kyle Hendricks.

Fantasy Tip: Gennett is out to a promising start, already having four home runs, which is nearly as many as he had all of last year (six) in 114 games, so let's hope this isn't something that sidelines him for an extended period. More should be known later in the evening. If he has to miss more time, Rivera would be the biggest beneficiary, but isn't someone worth picking up just yet. Villar would get a boost, too, as an injury to Gennett would regularly place him near the top of the lineup.

Brewers | Domingo Santana sitting out

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 13:22:51 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers OF Domingo Santana is out of the lineup Saturday, April 23, with SS Jonathan Villar leading off.

Fantasy Tip: Villar isn't anything to write home about right now with a .265 average and one steal. He's a low-end shortstop without a lot of upside against Charlie Morton.

Brewers | Jonathan Villar returns Friday

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 11:20:25 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SS Jonathan Villar (ankle) is back in the starting lineup hitting second while facing Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke Friday, April 15.

Fantasy Tip: Villar, a switch-hitter, doesn't have much power (career-high seven homers in 2014) and also doesn't run much. He's in a favorable lineup spot against a hittable lefty, but he remains a low-end shortstop candidate in daily games.

Brewers | Jonathan Villar still out

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 09:11:43 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SS Jonathan Villar (ankle) remains out for the second straight game Thursday, April 14. SS Yadiel Rivera is at shortstop again and is hitting seventh against St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia.

Fantasy Tip: Villar is believed to have a minor ankle injury, so he could be back any day. Rivera has three hits in four at-bats with two triples to begin the year but is nothing more than a desperation flyer in daily formats today.

Brewers | Jonathan Villar out again

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 08:44:27 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SS Jonathan Villar (ankle) is out of the lineup Thursday, April 14, with SS Yadiel Rivera hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Rivera doesn't really move the needle in fantasy. Keep an eye on Villar's ankle as his main weapon is his wheels.

Brewers | Jonathan Villar tweaked ankle

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 17:03:41 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SS Jonathan Villar (ankle) is out of the starting lineup for SS Yadiel Rivera because he tweaked his ankle on a slide the other day. It is not considered serious, however.

Fantasy Tip: Rivera is out to a nice start with his newfound playing time, going 3-for-7 in his three games played, but there's no reason to acquire him just yet, since it doesn't look like Villar will miss much time at all. Meanwhile, Villar is too inconsistent to implement in standard leagues and should be left for only the deepest of formats.

Brewers | Aaron Hill, Jonathan Villar out

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 14:44:42 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers 3B Aaron Hill and SS Jonathan Villar are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 13. OF Colin Walsh is starting at the hot corner and hitting sixth, while SS Yadiel Rivera is at shortstop and is batting eighth against St. Louis Cardinals SP Mike Leake.

Fantasy Tip: Walsh and Rivera are not worth your attention in any fantasy formats.

Brewers | Jonathan Villar could hit atop lineup

Thu, 03 Mar 2016 16:20:28 -0800

Milwaukee Brewers SS Jonathan Villar could hit atop the lineup to start the season, according to manager Craig Counsell.

Fantasy Tip: Villar is keeping the 6 warm for prospect Orlando Arcia, so he probably won't be Milwaukee's starting shortstop all year. But Villar has notable speed that could play for the Brewers at the top of the order, so he's a possible stolen base target late in NL-only and deep mixed leagues.
