Diamondbacks | Patrick Corbin pushed back

Fri, 22 May 2015 15:31:11 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin (elbow) has been pushed back due to soreness after his last extended spring outing, and he is unlikely to return June 4, according to manager David Hale.

Fantasy Tip: Continue to stash Corbin in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, but he won't be an immediate must-start arm when he returns. It would be wise to be patient with him in all formats, and especially in FantasyScore contests. Continue to check back for updates on Corbin's recovery and a new timeline for his return.

Diamondbacks | Patrick Corbin pushed back in rehab

Thu, 21 May 2015 16:12:57 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin (elbow) will be given more time to return from Tommy John surgery after he allowed three runs in five innings in an intrasquad game at extended spring training Monday, May 18. Corbin's velocity dipped a bit in his last extended spring outing, and he allowed seven hits while striking out six and walking one.

Fantasy Tip: Corbin should be stashed at least in deep mixed and NL-only leagues if he isn't already, because he could be a real asset once he returns to a major league mound. However, it's unclear who he'd bump from the rotation at this time, with the most likely candidate being Jeremy Hellickson ($3,200, 6.4% of cap). Stay tuned.

Diamondbacks | Patrick Corbin passes latest test

Mon, 18 May 2015 16:01:03 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin (elbow) threw five innings innings during an extended spring training game Monday, May 18. He allowed seven hits, three runs and issued a single walk with six strikeouts through 64 pitches.

Fantasy Tip: The strikeouts are encouraging, and Corbin is nearly 14 months removed from his Tommy John surgery. His return is nearing, and while he'll hold value in the majority of formats, his true fantasy impact is somewhat up in the air. FantasyScore players will want to allow him a start or two to readjust to major league hitters. In seasonal leagues, a speculative add isn't out of the question at this stage, either. Continue to check back for updates.

Diamondbacks | Patrick Corbin hits 95 mph on gun

Mon, 11 May 2015 15:15:30 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin (elbow) struck out five batters over 3 1/3 innings and 54 pitches during an extended spring training outing Monday, May 11. He touched 95 mph with his fastball in the first inning and hovered between 92-94 throughout the start. "He looked great. Couldn't have been happier," pitching coach Mike Harkey said. "Every time he gets out of there healthier for me is a plus." Corbin added, "Probably three or four more starts, and should be back to with the team if everything goes well. Three weeks right now seems like nothing to be back."

Fantasy Tip: Corbin is almost 14 months removed from his Tommy John surgery, and he said he felt better as he went along during the outing Monday. He is close to returning, and while he'll hold value in the majority of leagues, the jury is out on how much of an impact he'll have. FantasyScore players would be wise to take a wait-and-see approach, and benching him for a few starts until he proves his health is advised in seasonal leagues, too.

Diamondbacks | Patrick Corbin not ready yet

Mon, 11 May 2015 11:47:23 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin (elbow) is expected pitch in two more extended spring training games before he is ready to start his rehab assignment. The team would like Corbin's pitch count to be around 100 pitches before he begins the assignment.

Fantasy Tip: Corbin appears to be a few weeks away from returning to Arizona, so owners should continue to monitor his progress. Owners may want to see how he pitches before going after him, but he could be an option in deeper mixed and NL-only leagues if he pitches well.

Diamondbacks | Patrick Corbin will pitch Monday

Thu, 07 May 2015 14:51:06 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin (elbow) said he will pitch an extended spring training game Monday, May 11, and then go to high-A Visalia to begin a rehab stint.

Fantasy Tip: Corbin hasn't pitched since his excellent 2013 campaign due to Tommy John surgery. He won 14 games with a 3.41 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 7.7 K/9 over 208 1/3 innings pitched. He is expected to rejoin the Arizona rotation at some point this season, but he'll likely be plagued with peeks and valleys after such a lengthy absence. He is worth stashing in deep mixed and NL-only formats. Continue to check back for updates on his progress and a more concrete return timeline.

Diamondbacks | Patrick Corbin throws sim game

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 15:49:13 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin (elbow) threw all of his pitches in a 30-pitch simulated game over two innings Tuesday, April 28, and he said he will repeat the process Sunday, May 3.

Fantasy Tip: Corbin is a candidate to return to the D-backs rotation after a breakout 2013 season sometime this summer. Stash him now in deep mixed and NL-only leagues, as he could be a real asset to your rotation in the second half.

Diamondbacks | Patrick Corbin to throw sim game

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 10:00:22 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin (elbow) will throw his second simulated game Tuesday, April 28, and then three innings and 45 pitches May 4. Corbin will continue to build to 90 pitches during a minor league rehab assignment starting in mid-May. The team is hoping to have him active on or just before June 5, according to general manager Dave Stewart. Corbin is recovering from Tommy John surgery last March. He went 14-8 with a 3.41 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in a breakout 2013 season.

Fantasy Tip: Corbin is expected to immediately enter the D-backs rotation when he's ready in early June. For that reason alone, he should already be stashed in NL-only and deep mixed leagues in a DL slot. Consider doing the same if you have the room in shallow mixed leagues. Corbin might be slow out of the gates and struggle with velocity and location, as many Tommy John returnees do initially, but he could be a useful fantasy commodity in the second half of 2015 in most leagues.

Sun, 12 Apr 2015 12:18:03 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin (elbow), who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, is expected to return to action in early June.

Fantasy Tip: Corbin is worth monitoring in all fantasy formats and he could be a good bargain in FantasyScore once he's activated from the disabled list.

Diamondbacks | Patrick Corbin throws bullpen

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 06:45:17 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin (elbow) threw a bullpen session Tuesday, March 24, for the first time since Tommy John surgery.

Fantasy Tip: Corbin will be a pitcher to monitor as he makes his way back. He could be an excellent low-priced flyer on FantasyScore after the first month or two.
