Rays | Steven Souza breaks out

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 13:31:23 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza broke an 0-for-26 slump with two hits, including a two-run homer, Saturday, July 4.

Fantasy Tip: Souza ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) had 16 strikeouts in that 26-at-bat skid, so today was a good sign. We need to see more before spending that much on FantasyScore, though.

Rays | Steven Souza returns to the lineup

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 08:31:20 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza will start in right field against New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda Saturday, July 4, and is batting fifth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Souza ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) received a few days off since he has been struggling at the plate. He has gone nine games without a hit and is batting only .208 on the season. Owners on FantasyScore probably should avoid Souza until he breaks out of his slump.

Rays | Steven Souza out again

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 11:39:16 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza is out of the lineup Friday, July 3, with OF Grady Sizemore leading off as the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: It's Souza's second day off in a row, and his extended struggles have clearly cost him some playing time. Sizemore ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is hitting .364 with a homer and four RBI the last seven days. If you're feeling nostalgic, give him a whirl on FantasyScore against Masahiro Tanaka.

Rays | Steven Souza out Thursday

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 09:03:26 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza is out of the lineup Thursday, July 2, with OF Brandon Guyer in his place.

Fantasy Tip: Souza ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is hitless in 21 at-bats the last seven days and should be avoided in his deep slide. Guyer ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) has a .276-2-16 line this season, but he's really just a guy. Sorry for the weak pun, but avoid him on FantasyScore.

Rays | Steven Souza's timing off

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 15:28:58 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza went 0-for-12 with eight strikeouts over the weekend, and manager Kevin Cash said Souza's timing at the plate looks to be off right now.

Fantasy Tip: Souza ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has 20-20 potential, but you'll have to live with a poor average and plenty of swings and misses. He can be a very frustrating fantasy play, and he's a risk/reward option on FantasyScore most nights. The matchup against Cleveland Indians starter Cody Anderson tonight makes Souza intriguing despite his bad slump of late.

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 06:26:28 -0700

Rays | Steven Souza on a roll

Fri, 19 Jun 2015 19:52:07 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza Jr. went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored in a 4-1 win over the Cleveland Indians Friday, June 19, and he is 6-for-12 with two home runs over his last three games.

Fantasy Tip: Souza ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has scored six runs over the same stretch, and despite a poor batting average, his combination of power and speed gives him solid upside at FantasyScore most nights. That being said, he should probably be avoided Saturday when the Rays face the reigning AL Cy Young winner, Corey Kluber.

Rays | Steven Souza Jr. homers again

Sun, 31 May 2015 19:38:10 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza Jr. went 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored in a 9-5 win over the Baltimore Orioles Sunday, May 31, and he has homered in three straight games.

Fantasy Tip: Despite a poor average, Souza ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has a combination of power and speed that gives him intriguing upside at FantasyScore. He is a high-risk, high-reward play for sure, but for the price, he isn't the worst player to gamble on.

Rays | Steven Souza returns in sixth spot

Fri, 29 May 2015 13:30:52 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza (wrist) is back in the starting lineup and is hitting sixth in the batting order against Baltimore Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez.

Fantasy Tip: Souza ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) hasn't played since Sunday, and he's hitting only .223 (33-for-148) with seven home runs and 17 RBI for the Rays. His mix of speed and power always makes him worth a selection as a value play on FantasyScore, though. However, you may want to sit him out in this one in his return to action against Gonzalez, who righties are only hitting .227 (22-for-97) against this year.

Rays | Steven Souza out again Wednesday

Wed, 27 May 2015 09:55:53 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza (wrist) is out of the starting lineup again Wednesday, May 27. OF Brandon Guyer is starting in right field and hitting eighth in the batting order against Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez.

Fantasy Tip: Guyer ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is hitting a respectable .276 (29-for-105) with two home runs and 12 RBI, but he should be left off all FantasyScore rosters while facing King Felix and hitting at the bottom of the order.
