Rays | Steven Souza sprains wrist

Mon, 25 May 2015 05:42:34 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza (wrist) suffered a sprained left wrist against the Oakland Athletics Sunday, May 24, and was wearing a brace after the game. X-rays were negative, and Souza plans to have an MRI Monday, May 25.

Fantasy Tip: Souza ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has been up and down lately, hitting just .208 in May. He remains a cheap source of modest power when he is healthy and would warrant a spot on your disabled list if the Rays place him on theirs. He can be dropped in deep leagues if this injury goes beyond the day-to-day status.

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza Jr. (hand) developed a left-hand injury Sunday, May 24, in the team's game. Souza was examined by a trainer and then left the field.

Fantasy Tip: Souza ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has been a leader in home runs this season for the Rays, so this could be bad news if the injury is serious. Stay tuned.

Rays | Steven Souza working on strikeouts

Sat, 23 May 2015 14:23:27 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza Jr. had 63 strikeouts through Friday and was on pace for 239. He is working with Rays hitting coach Derek Shelton to cut down on his strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Souza ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) isn't likely to be demoted because he also happens to hit home runs, and the team can't afford to lose that. Souza is worth the risk thanks to his lower price and his power ability.

Rays | Steven Souza sitting out

Sun, 17 May 2015 08:35:52 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza is not in the starting lineup Sunday, May 17.

Fantasy Tip: Souza ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) likely is receiving a day off after seeing playing time in each of the last 21 games. Brandon Guyer ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) will start in his place and could be a cheaper option for owners on FantasyScore to consider.

Rays | Steven Souza dropped to sixth in order

Thu, 07 May 2015 12:11:13 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza is hitting sixth in the batting order against Texas Rangers SP Nick Martinez Thursday, May 7.

Fantasy Tip: It's unknown if this is a permanent change or a short-term thing, but Souza ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is hitting only .232 (22-for-95) on the season, including a stretch that has seen him go .167 (4-for-24) with 14 strikeouts since April 29. The Rays are hoping to get the youngster turned around by hitting lower in the lineup, and he'll be an under-the-radar FantasyScore start in the meantime.

Rays | Steven Souza to sit Wednesday

Wed, 06 May 2015 11:39:00 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza will sit out Wednesday, May 6, as expected.

Fantasy Tip: Souza had been slumping a bit before recording two knocks Tuesday night. With Souza out tonight, Brandon Guyer ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is receiving the start against Boston Red Sox starter Justin Masterson. Guyer is hitting .255 (14-for-55) with one home run and seven RBI, and he shouldn't create much excitement for FantasyScore lineups, especially at the bottom of the lineup.

Rays | Steven Souza to see day off

Mon, 04 May 2015 16:29:26 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza will likely have a day off either Tuesday, May 5, or Wednesday, May 6, according to manager Kevin Cash.

Fantasy Tip: Souza ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) entered the game Monday night hitless in his last 17 at-bats, and he made that 18 when he struck out in his first at-bat. Souza has 13 K's in his last 18 at-bats. Avoid him until he breaks out of this funk everywhere, including at FantasyScore.

Rays | Steven Souza not in lineup vs. Jays

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 12:10:15 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza is not in the starting lineup against the Toronto Blue Jays Friday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to remove Souza ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) from your fantasy lineups Friday. He had to leave the game early Wednesday, April 22, due to forearm cramps, so he is likely receiving a rest day. However, it is still worth checking back for updates to make sure it is just a routine day off. Brandon Guyer ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) draws into the lineup Friday, but he is nothing more than a low-priced flier in FantasyScore contests.

Rays | Steven Souza right back in lineup

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 14:00:17 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza (forearm) is batting second and playing right field against the Boston Red Sox Thursday, April 23. Souza left the game early with a forearm cramp Wednesday, April 22.

Fantasy Tip: Seasonal owners can happily return Souza ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) to their lineups. FantasyScore players might want to be a little more cautious, though. View Souza as a high-risk, high-reward option in daily contests Thursday.
