The Atlanta Braves placed OF Jason Heyward (appendix) on the 15-day disabled list after he underwent an appendectomy Monday, April 22, and recalled SS Tyler Pastornicky from Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move. The team has no timetable on when Heyward might return.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward was struggling with the bat, hitting only .121 to start the year, so this gives Atlanta a perfect time to rest him up. He probably won't miss more than the two weeks, though, since appendectomy procedures have become less invasive in recent years.

Atlanta Braves SS Tyler Pastornicky and OF Jordan Schafer have yet to arrive to spring camp. Pastornicky will compete for a utility job this year but is unlikely to make the opening day roster. Schafer will likely have to beat out OF Jose Constanza for a backup outfield spot.

Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said 3B Martin Prado will be the starter at second base after 2B Dan Uggla was benched. INFs Jeff Baker and Tyler Pastornicky can also play the keystone if needed. OFs Reed Johnson and Jose Constanza could split time in left field. Gonzalez said Uggla could win back the starting job at second before the end of the season.

The Atlanta Braves have placed SS Andrelton Simmons (hand) on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured bone in his right hand. In a corresponding move, the team recalled SS Tyler Pastornicky from Triple-A Gwinnett.
