Yankees | Michael Pineda headed for DL

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 11:30:10 -0700

Updating previous reports, New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda (forearm) is dealing with a Grade 1 forearm strain. RP Andrew Miller dealt with the same injury this year and missed a month of action. Pineda will land on the disabled list, but the Yankees think he will pitch again this year.

Fantasy Tip: Pineda ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) should be held onto in all formats. It's unclear who will replace him in the rotation, but it could be top pitching prospect Luis Severino, who is 7-0 with a 1.91 ERA at Class AAA this year. Severino should be owned in keeper formats, and he's worth stashing now in AL-only and deep mixed leagues, too.

Yankees | Michael Pineda's injury not serious

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 10:50:16 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda's (forearm) injury is not considered serious, and it is a forearm muscle strain and not an elbow strain.

Fantasy Tip: This doesn't mean that Pineda ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) won't miss considerable time or avoid a trip to the DL. Stay tuned and sit tight if you own him. Bryan Mitchell will be called up to start against the Texas Rangers tonight. He won't be available on FantasyScore.

Yankees | Michael Pineda scratched from start

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 10:35:15 -0700

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda (forearm) will not make his start due to tightness in his forearm Thursday, July 30, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to remove Pineda ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) from your FantasyScore lineups tonight if you had him in there. It's unclear how serious his injury is, so stay tuned for more updates. If it's an extended absence for Pineda, the Yanks could call on top pitching prospect Luis Severino. Severino should be owned in dynasty and keeper formats, and he'd be appealing to those in deeper mixed leagues if he joins the rotation.

Yankees | Michael Pineda, Ivan Nova injured?

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 10:23:26 -0700

New York Yankees SPs Michael Pineda (elbow) and Ivan Nova (undisclosed) are both dealing with injuries.

Fantasy Tip: This could be very troubling news for the Yankees if the injuries to Pineda ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) and Nova ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) turn out to cost them significant time. Keep an eye out for updated information on them. Could the Yankees call up top pitching prospect Luis Severino to take a rotation spot? Those in dynasty and keeper leagues should stash him now.

Yankees | Michael Pineda earns win Friday

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 19:51:47 -0700

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda (9-5) allowed one run on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings in a victory over the Boston Red Sox Friday, July 9, with no walks and six strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Pineda ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) has hurled quality starts in each of his last three outings heading into the All-Star break and makes a strong pitching option in FantasyScore.

Yankees | Michael Pineda knocked around

Mon, 22 Jun 2015 22:01:54 -0700

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda allowed a career-high eight runs and 11 hits in just 3 1/3 innings in a loss Monday, June 22, against the Philadelphia Phillies. "His slider wasn't very good. His fastball was spotty," manager Joe Girardi said. "He struggled tonight."

Fantasy Tip: Pineda ($8,300; or 16.6% of cap) was a giant disappointment for FantasyScore players against a team which ranked dead-last in run differential in MLB.

Yankees | Michael Pineda flashes strong slider

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 22:36:15 -0700

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda was back on regular rest Wednesday, June 17, against the Miami Marlins, and his slider was back, too. He allowed one earned run, one hit and two walks with nine strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings to pick up his eighth win of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Pineda ($8,300; or 16.6% of cap) entered the day with a 9.63 K/9 ratio, which was good for 15th in the majors. He is a fantastic FantasyScore option most nights.

Yankees | Michael Pineda to be skipped

Fri, 05 Jun 2015 13:44:09 -0700

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda will have his next start skipped in order to preserve his innings for the season. SP CC Sabathia will now go Sunday, June 7, SP Masahiro Tanaka will pitch Tuesday, June 9, and SP Nathan Eovaldi will go Wednesday, June 10. Pineda's next start will come Friday, June 12.

Fantasy Tip: Pineda ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) is having a fine season with a 3.33 ERA and 9.7 strikeouts per nine innings over 11 starts. Instead he'll face the Baltimore Orioles in a week and should be a fine starting pitching option on FantasyScore. The way the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have been hitting, Sabathia on Sunday is a pretty big risk not worth taking.

Yankees | Michael Pineda bounces back

Wed, 27 May 2015 13:23:07 -0700

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda gave up only one run and six hits while striking out eight and walking one in 6 2/3 innings to beat the Kansas City Royals Wednesday, May 27, after being hit hard in his previous two outings. He now has 67 strikeouts and just five walks on the year, and he's 6-2 with a 3.36 ERA in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Pineda ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) shut down one of the best teams and offenses in the league Wednesday in the Royals, showing that his resurgence in 2015 is the real deal. His strikeout-to-walk rate is through the roof and is another example that his peripherals should carry him throughout the season. Pineda should continue to be a reliable FantasyScore option.

Yankees | Dubious honor for Michael Pineda

Fri, 15 May 2015 20:43:53 -0700

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda allowed five runs on 10 hits while striking out one in 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Kansas City Royals Friday, May 15, and his one strikeout was the fewest for a pitcher following a game with at least 16 strikeouts in the Wild Card era.

Fantasy Tip: What a difference a start can make. Pineda ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) has shown signs of becoming an ace-caliber starter, but he isn't as reliable as some other high-priced options at FantasyScore. At his price, he should still be avoided against tougher matchups.
