Mon, 17 Jun 2013 14:49:18 -0700 New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has been thrilled with the progress from SP Michael Pineda (shoulder), and the righty is hitting mid-to-low 90s with his fastball. He'll make his third rehab start in the Florida State League Thursday, June 20, and throw around 80 pitches. The team will continue to evaluate him to determine if he'll be ready to return to the majors. Fantasy Tip: Pineda could be a steal off the waiver wire for the second half of the season if team brass determines he's ready for another try at the major league level. Health is key, but if reports are any indication, he looks like he's close to top form. Consider stashing him in deep leagues soon, if not now.

Fantasy Tip: Pineda continues to make progress from shoulder surgery. It's a good time to stash him in fantasy leagues where he's still available and there's room on rosters.

Sun, 09 Jun 2013 21:00:56 -0700 New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda (shoulder) made a minor-league rehab start for Class A Tampa Sunday, June 9. He allowed one unearned run, two hits and a walk with four strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings. Pineda threw 68 pitches, and his fastball topped out at 95 mph. Fantasy Tip: If you're in need of pitching help in AL-only leagues, Pineda is worth stashing away now. His return is not imminent, but he is making nice progress and could be a nice addition in mixed formats down the road as well.
Sat, 08 Jun 2013 15:47:52 -0700 Updating a previous report, New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda (shoulder) will start for Single-A Tampa Sunday, June 9.
Tue, 04 Jun 2013 13:22:39 -0700 New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda (shoulder) will begin his rehab assignment with Single-A Tampa Saturday, June 8. Fantasy Tip: Reports of Pineda's velocity during his rehab have been very positive. Assuming he has no setbacks during his minor league rehab assignment, the Yankees will be pleased to insert him into their rotation for the second half of the season. Pineda could be a nice addition to mixed league rosters down the stretch. Consider stashing him soon.
Mon, 27 May 2013 15:31:03 -0700 New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a simulated game this week. He is expected to throw 60 to 70 pitches during the simulated game.
Thu, 23 May 2013 13:21:02 -0700 New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda (shoulder) has two more extended spring outings before he can start his 30-day rehab assignment, which means he could join the team's rotation by the end of June. However, general manager Brian Cashman said Pineda must be pitching well in order to be considered for a spot in the rotation. Fantasy Tip: It's too soon to say whether Pineda will immediately become an option for the Yankees' rotation in June, but it's likely that he'll get a chance to prove himself in the second half of the season. That's enough to peak interest in deep mixed leagues if you're looking for rotation help by then.
Mon, 20 May 2013 12:37:52 -0700 New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova (biceps) is throwing an extended spring training game Monday, May 20, and he could be activated from the disabled list after that. SS Eduardo Nunez (rib cage) is "ten days away for us to think about New York," general manager Brian Cashman said. SP Michael Pineda (shoulder) threw in an extended spring game Saturday, May 18, and received strong reviews during the 51-pitch outing. The team is hoping he'll make two more starts Thursday, May 23, and May 28, before beginning an official rehab assignment.
