Phillies | Vince Velasquez solid in no-decision

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 21:25:15 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Vincent Velasquez allowed just one earned run, three hits and four walks with five strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision and quality start Tuesday, July 19, against the Miami Marlins.

Fantasy Tip: Velasquez is 8-2 with a 3.15 ERA and 1.25 WHIP, lowering his ERA from 3.38 over the past four outings. He had a rough May, but he has re-emerged as a must-start fantasy option across most seasonal formats and DFS play.

Philadelphia Phillies SP Vincent Velasquez gave up two runs on eight hits in six innings against the Colorado Rockies on Friday, July 8. He walked two and struck out six while recording his eighth win.

Fantasy Tip: In three post-DL starts, Velasquez is 3-0 with a 2.12 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 20 K's in 17 innings. He's worth owning in all formats.

Philadelphia Phillies SP Vincent Velasquez allowed two runs on five hits while walking two and striking out seven in six innings in a win over the Kansas City Royals Sunday, July 3.

Fantasy Tip: Velasquez has delivered two solid starts since returning from a biceps injury, and he should be safe to use going forward in all formats.

Phillies | Vincent Velasquez strong in return

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 23:09:15 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Vincent Velasquez showed little rust in his first start since coming off the disabled list against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday, June 27, yielding five singles while fanning seven over five scoreless frames en route to his sixth win of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Velasquez, who suffered a biceps injury in his last start on June 8, was cut off after 84 pitches, but his stuff was as good as ever. The 24-year-old recorded 16 swinging strikes Monday and is up to 80 strikeouts over 66 2/3 innings. Velasquez should be considered a middle-of-the-road fantasy option, however, in his next start at home on Saturday against the Kansas City Royals.

Phillies | Vincent Velasquez off DL

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 05:15:03 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Vincent Velasquez (biceps) was activated off the 15-day disabled list Sunday, June 26. In a corresponding roster move, RP Elvis Araujo was sent to Class AAA Lehigh Valley.

Fantasy Tip: Velasquez will start Monday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Go ahead and activate him in all formats, but be careful that his first outing or two back may be a bit rocky as he gets his pitching legs together.

Phillies | Adam Morgan available in relief Sunday

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 07:47:13 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan will be available out of the bullpen for the game against the San Francisco Giants Sunday, June 26. He was originally scheduled to pitch versus the Arizona Diamondbacks Monday, June 27, but it now appears as though SP Vincent Velasquez (biceps) will be activated from the disabled list to make the start.

Fantasy Tip: This could be a sign that Morgan's days with the parent club are numbered. The 26-year-old left-hander is 1-6 with a 6.55 ERA through 11 starts this year and is not a recommended fantasy option in any format.

Phillies | Vincent Velasquez expected to pitch Monday

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 07:45:29 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Vincent Velasquez (biceps) is expected to be activated from the disabled list Monday, June 27, to start against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Velasquez and agent Scott Boras have had discussions about a possible innings limit this season, although it is uncertain if Boras had spoken to the club about this issue. "The agents and I discussed it a little bit, but I don't know the definite answer, an exact amount of innings," Velasquez said. "I don't know, I'd want to say roughly like maybe 150 or something, maybe 160 tops. If there was a possible chance of being in a playoff run or something, I would love to help the guys out in relief because I've done that in the past."

Fantasy Tip: Velasquez is 5-2 with a 3.65 ERA in 12 starts this season, with 22 walks and 73 strikeouts over 61 2/3 innings, and should be viewed as a viable pitching option in most fantasy leagues. He has never thrown more than 124 2/3 innings in a season, so don't be surprised if the 24-year-old right-hander is shut down or moved to the bullpen before the end of the year.

Phillies | Vincent Velasquez throws Friday

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 05:44:14 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Vincent Velasquez (biceps) threw a bullpen session Friday, June 24. Manager Pete Mackanin said the team will decide when Velasquez will rejoin the starting rotation in the near future.

Fantasy Tip: Velasquez should pitch for the Phillies soon, so owners will need to keep an eye on the situation. He has posted a 5-2 record and a 3.65 ERA so far this season, which makes him a decent option in most mixed leagues.

Phillies | Vincent Velasquez set for rehab start

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 14:06:05 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Vincent Velasquez (biceps) will make a rehab start for Class AA Reading Wednesday, June 22. He hopes he will only need the single rehab outing.

Fantasy Tip: Velasquez should be owned in all formats and appears to be ready to return sooner than later. He's posted a 3.65 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP with 73 strikeouts through just 61 2/3 innings over his first 12 starts of the season, and the strikeouts are particularly promising. Stay tuned for updates.

Phillies | Vincent Velasquez lands on DL

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 10:51:58 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Vincent Velasquez (biceps) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday, June 10. SP Zach Eflin is expected to take his spot in the rotation Tuesday, June 14.

Fantasy Tip: He leveled off after a meteoric start to the season, but his 73 K's in 61 2/3 innings keeps him a valuable chip in fantasy. The injury didn't sound too serious, and it's probably a case of the rebuilding team being super cautious with him. Eflin is 5-2 with a 2.90 ERA and a 0.88 WHIP in 11 starts at Class AAA Lehigh Valley. He doesn't strike a ton of guys out, but he's worth a look in NL-only leagues for depth.
