Thu, 13 Jun 2013 09:33:36 -0700 Miami Marlins SP Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) will make what might be his final rehab start Thursday, June 13, for Double-A Jacksonville. SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) will take the mound for his first rehab outing Single-A Jupiter Thursday. Fantasy Tip: NL-only players could take a run at either player if they're still available, but it's a flyer, at best. Deep-mixed leaguers shouldn't be as interested.
Fri, 07 Jun 2013 16:32:55 -0700 Miami Marlins SPs Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) and Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) figure to return to the team soon. Eovaldi will make what's expected to be his last rehab start with Double-A Jacksonville Sunday, June 9. Alvarez will throw 50 to 55 pitches in a simulated game Saturday, June 8. SPs Kevin Slowey or Tom Koehler could move to the bullpen to accommodate Eovaldi in the rotation. Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi will be an option for those seeking rotation help in deep mixed leagues. A pitcher-friendly environment in Miami will help his cause. Koehler makes more sense to be sent to bullpen duty when Eovaldi joins the club, but Slowey might not be far behind when Alvarez is ready to return.
Fri, 07 Jun 2013 11:30:54 -0700 Miami Marlins SP Ricky Nolasco is a good possibility to be traded weeks before the trading deadline this summer with SPs Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) and Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) nearing returns. The Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees seem to be the teams with the most interest in Nolasco. "I think he'd be a great addition for somebody, as a No. 3 or 4 (starter). He's very similar to what Anibal Sanchez was last year. He's not a 1 or a 2. But he's a veteran guy who can go out and spin seven innings, and do it, I think, for a contending team." Fantasy Tip: Most fantasy owners chose to ignore Nolasco because he pitches for the Marlins. Well, he shouldn't be any longer, especially because the chances that he'll be dealt are pretty good. Nolasco has been more dominant this year and pitches in a park that suppresses long balls.
Mon, 13 May 2013 10:30:03 -0700 Miami Marlins SP Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) threw a 40-pitch bullpen session Saturday, May 11, and will repeat the step Monday, May 13. SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) hasn't gotten back on the mound yet since suffering a setback, but he's throwing off flat ground. Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi should rejoin the team's rotation before Alvarez, assuming he doesn't have a setback of his own. Eovaldi finished strong and showed that he can be effective as a ground-ball pitcher, leaving hope for those in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues. Both pitchers, once fully healthy, should have spots in the team's rotation.
Tue, 07 May 2013 15:26:45 -0700 The Miami Marlins moved SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) to the 60-day disabled list Tuesday, May 7.
Thu, 02 May 2013 13:57:20 -0700 Miami Marlins SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) had a setback Thursday, May 2, and he is not throwing. C Jeff Mathis (collarbone) is expected to play in a rehab game Thursday.
Thu, 18 Apr 2013 11:59:02 -0700 Miami Marlins SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) threw 35 pitches in a bullpen session Wednesday, April 17, and he could try to throw a simulated game next week.
Fri, 12 Apr 2013 21:54:44 -0700 Miami Marlins SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) threw 15 pitches off the mound Friday, April 12, for the first time since starting the season on the 15-day disabled list.
Sun, 07 Apr 2013 14:56:23 -0700 Miami Marlins SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) has begun throwing as part of his rehab.
Mon, 01 Apr 2013 11:52:23 -0700 Both Miami Marlins SPs Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) and Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) will be out for around a month with shoulder inflammation. Fantasy Tip: Alex Sanabia and Jose Fernandez will fit into the rotation for the time being. Both should be left for NL-only leagues. Fernandez is one of the league's top pitching prospects, but you can bet the Marlins will send him back to the minors when Alvarez and Eovaldi are healthy.
