Athletics | Henderson Alvarez pitching next Saturday

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 13:57:23 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) is scheduled to throw four innings or 60 pitches for Class A Stockton in a rehab outing Saturday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez has potential to help stabilize your ratios and pad the win column, but his career 4.7 K/9 doesn't do any fantasy favors. View Alvarez as a low-end starter in mixed leagues. Continue to check back for updates as he works his way back from the injury.

Athletics | Henderson Alvarez to rehab this weekend

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 15:40:24 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) is doing flat-ground work with team trainers Wednesday, April 27, and he thinks he'll make another rehab start Saturday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez has considerable upside with the A's as more of a ground-ball pitcher that will call pitcher-friendly O.co Coliseum home. Remember that Alvarez went 12-7 with a 2.65 ERA and was an All-Star as recently as 2014 with the Marlins. Stash him now in deeper mixed and AL-only leagues if he's still out there on the waiver wire.

Athletics | Henderson Alvarez continues rehab

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 23:42:35 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) worked two innings in a minor-league rehab assignment Monday, April 25, for Class AAA Nashville. He allowed one hit with one strikeouts in two scoreless frames.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez has allowed two runs - one earned - over five innings with two strikeouts in two rehab appearances so far. Wait until he can officially return to the big club and prove his health in a start or two without any setbacks before plugging him back into the starting lineup.

Athletics | Henderson Alvarez getting velocity up

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 14:50:28 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) was throwing as hard as 94 mph in his start for Class AAA Nashville on Monday, April 25, according to manager Bob Melvin.

Fantasy Tip: This is an excellent sign that Alvarez is on the verge of returning to the major league club, and he appears to be ahead of schedule, as he wasn't really expected back for another month or so. Alvarez will have standout potential in his first year with the Athletics and now might be the time to stash him if he's out there on any waiver wires. He was an All-Star as recent as two seasons ago, remember.

Athletics | Henderson Alvarez getting closer

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 16:37:40 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) allowed a run in three innings for Class A Stockton Thursday, April 21, in his first rehab start. He's scheduled to make another rehab start for Class AAA Nashville Monday, April 25. He's expected to throw three innings or 45 pitches.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez may only need a few more rehab starts before he's ready to make his season debut with the A's next month. Alvarez's ground-ball tendencies should play well at O.co Coliseum if he's healthy. Consider stashing him now if he's available in deep mixed and AL-only leagues.

Athletics | Rehab start set for Henderson Alvarez

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 15:32:29 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) has his first rehab start scheduled for Wednesday, April 20, with Class A Stockton. He will work three innings with a pitch limit of "about 45," according to manager Bob Melvin.

Fantasy Tip: This will put Alvarez on track to return around the middle of May, and owners should take notice, as he's someone capable of sticking on fantasy rosters in most leagues for the remainder of the campaign. The 2014 All-Star's progress should be monitored and pounced on at the first sign of success. Alvarez has landed in a favorable situation in Oakland, being able to make half his starts in a very distinct pitcher's park.

Athletics | Henderson Alvarez ready for next step

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 16:06:09 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) felt great during a 30-pitch simulated game Friday, April 15, and said he feels ready to go on a rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: It won't be until sometime next month until Alvarez can make his debut and rejoin the starting rotation. He doesn't have devastating swing-and-miss stuff, but Alvarez flashed potential in 2014 with Miami, going 12-7 with a 2.65 ERA and 1.23 WHIP. His ground-ball tendencies could play well at O.co Coliseum. Keep him on your watched list in deep mixed and AL-only leagues.

Athletics | Sim game Friday for Henderson Alvarez

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 10:44:46 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) will throw a simulated game Friday, April 15.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez could throw a couple of these before moving to some minor league rehab starts. He's expected to be ready to join the rotation sometime next month. Injuries ruined his 2015, but don't forget Alvarez had a 2.65 ERA and 1.23 WHIP with Miami in 2014. As a ground-ball artist, Alvarez could thrive at O.co Coliseum. Stash him now in deep mixed and AL-only leagues.
