Los Angeles Dodgers SP Josh Beckett (hip) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, July 8, with a left hip impingement. The disabled list stint will be retroactive to Monday, July 7. In a corresponding move, RP Pedro Baez has been recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Fantasy Tip: Beckett has pitched exceptionally well thus far in 2014. With the All-Star break nearing, he could only miss a single start. However, Beckett has a history of healing slowly, and this injury could eventually require surgery if he comes back too soon. If someone gets the opportunity to make a spot start in Beckett's absence, they would have fleeting NL-only value and be a potential streamer candidate.

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Chris Withrow is being converted from a starting pitcher to a reliever, and 3B Pedro Baez is making the transition to a hard-throwing relief pitcher. "They put him on the mound in instructional league and that fastball is really strong," pitching coach Rick Honeycutt said of Baez, who turns 25 next month. "You talk about Kenley when you see the ball come out of his hand. He hasn't been overwhelmed by thinking too much about pitching. He just sees the glove and throws it and that's kind of refreshing."
