The Boston Red Sox signed Ps Michael Bowden, Drake Britton, Christopher Carpenter, Felix Doubront, Mark Melancon, Clayton Mortensen, Stolmy Pimentel and Junichi Tazawa, Cs Luis Exposito and Ryan Lavarnway, INFs Lars Anderson, Will Middlebrooks and Oscar Tejeda and OFs Ryan Kalish, Che-Hsuan Lin and Darnell McDonald to one-year deals for the 2012 season Friday, March 9. The team will pay all of them the league minimum at $480,000.

Boston Red Sox P Stolmy Pimentel (lat) is sidelined due to a strained latissimus muscle. "He has a lat situation that's from yesterday," manager Bobby Valentine said. "We're going to keep him out of action for a while."

Ps Tony Pena Jr., Jason Rice, Clevelan Santeliz, Kyle Weiland and Alex Wilson, Cs Tim Federowicz and Ryan Lavarnway, IFs Brent Dlugach and Hector Luna and OF Che-Hsuan Lin were reassigned to minor league camp.

The Boston Red Sox have unilaterally renewed the contracts of 15 players for the 2011 season at undisclosed salaries, according to The Boston Globe's Peter Abraham. Signed players include P's Daniel Bard, Michael Bowden, Clay Buchholz, Felix Doubront and Stolmy Pimentel; C's Luis Exposito and Mark Wagner; IF's Lars Anderson, Jed Lowrie, Yamaico Navarro and Oscar Tejeda; and OF's Ryan Kalish, Darnell McDonald, Daniel Nava and Josh Reddick.

Boston Red Sox Ps Michael Bowden, Stolmy Pimentel and Jason Rice are scheduled to work in the exhibition opener Saturday, Feb. 26, against Northeastern University, reports Evan Drellich, of MLB.com. Ps Kyle Weiland, Alex Wilson and Rich Hill are scheduled to pitch in the second half of the doubleheader against Boston College.

The Boston Red Sox are engaged in ongoing talks for a trade for San Diego Padres 1B Adrian Gonzalez, according to ESPNBoston.com's Gordon Edes. General manager Theo Epstein appears to be making progress in tempting Padres general manager Jed Hoyer with a package of top prospects. A proposed deal does not currently involve RP Daniel Bard. The Padres are likely to ask for P Casey Kelly and 1B Anthony Rizzo in any trade for Gonzalez. OF Ryan Kalish, SS Jose Iglesias, OF Josh Reddick, OF Reymond Fuentes, P Stolmy Pimentel and C Ryan Lavarnway could be other targets.
