Rangers | Brett Nicholas optioned to Round Rock

Wed, 04 May 2016 12:05:34 -0700

Texas Rangers C Brett Nicholas was optioned to Class AAA Round Rock Wednesday, May 4.

Fantasy Tip: Nicholas was 9-for-35 with a respectable .876 OPS, but Texas also has Bryan Holaday and Bobby Wilson to work behind the plate. Holaday and Wilson project to split starts at catcher, but neither boast much fantasy appeal. Holaday has a career .238/.276/.319 slash line, and Wilson owns a career .203/.266/.299 line. They're both desperation options in deep seasonal leagues.

Rangers | Bryan Holaday will not start

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 10:21:59 -0700

Texas Rangers C Bryan Holaday is not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Mat Latos Sunday, April 24. C Brett Nicholas will start at catcher and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Nicholas has at least one hit in three of his four games this season and is batting .286 on the season. Nicholas is a starting candidate in AL-only leagues but probably can be avoided in most mixed leagues.

Rangers | Texas standing pat at catcher

Mon, 11 Apr 2016 14:34:58 -0700

Texas Rangers Cs Bryan Holaday and Brett Nicholas will share time behind the plate, and the team is not likely to look outside the organization for a catcher following Robinson Chirinos' (forearm) injury.

Fantasy Tip: Holaday is the best add in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only leagues, and he showed some promise with a .281 batting average and .453 slugging percentage through 65 plate appearances with Detroit last year. View Nicholas as a desperation add in those deep formats for now, but whoever hits and plays the best defense will likely see the bulk of starts.

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 11:39:09 -0700

Texas Rangers C Brett Nicholas was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock Sunday, April 10.

Fantasy Tip: Nicholas should serve as the No. 2 catcher for the Rangers and will see limited playing time. He likely will only have fantasy value in deeper AL-only leagues.

Rangers | Brett Nicholas seeing time behind plate

Sat, 22 Feb 2014 21:17:03 -0800

Texas Rangers 1B Brett Nicholas will get some work behind the plate with C Geovany Soto (ankle) sidelined for three weeks after ankle surgery. He was drafted as a catcher, but he has seen time at first base and catcher over the past four years. "The biggest thing is I don't have the greatest arm," Nicholas said Saturday, Feb. 22. "I need to develop a quick release and work on my accuracy. If I can get my throws down and on target, everything will be good."
