MLB | Rockies-Pirates postponed

Sun, 22 May 2016 15:15:48 -0700

The game between the Colorado Rockies and Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday, May 22, was postponed due to rain after one inning. The game has been rescheduled for Monday, May 23. Pittsburgh Pirates SP Juan Nicasio and Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis were the pitchers. There was no word on their status for Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Because the game already started any players are stuck in your lineup. As far as the stats, they do not count because the game did not go an official five innings.

Rockies | Chad Bettis earns victory

Wed, 18 May 2016 00:56:51 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis allowed only two base runners in scoring position until the seventh inning Tuesday, May 17, against the St. Louis Cardinals. Bettis gave up five singles in 6 2/3 innings, walking two and striking out four, in a 3-1 win. Bettis is now 4-2 overall.

Fantasy Tip: Despite pitching in the bleak hole known as Coors Field, Bettis has 12 walks and 42 strikeouts this season. His record is now 3-1 on the road, and it looks like Bettis won't be falling into a slump anytime soon. His nearly 3.5-1 strikeout-walk ratio makes him a strong fantasy value.

Rockies | Chad Bettis OK in no-decision

Wed, 11 May 2016 16:15:39 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis picked up a no-decision Wednesday, May 11, against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He registered 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits. He also struck out eight and walked none.

Fantasy Tip: Miraculously, this was the seventh straight start Bettis logged in which he went six innings or more. That's about the brightest outlook of his season, however, as he now carries a 4.56 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. If he were on another team, Bettis would definitely be more relevant in fantasy, but he's just a middling starter at best as he resides in Colorado.

Rockies | Chad Bettis knocked around

Fri, 06 May 2016 23:47:31 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis allowed five earned runs, eight hits and two walks over six innings in a loss Friday, May 6, against the San Francisco Giants. He also struck out four batters.

Fantasy Tip: Bettis is just 1-2 with a 5.79 ERA in 18 2/3 innings over his past three outings. He is only worth trusting in the deepest of NL-only fantasy formats at this point.

Rockies | Chad Bettis records third quality start

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 14:52:21 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis put together his third straight quality start Wednesday, April 20, versus the Cincinnati Reds. He logged six innings of three-run ball, scattering just three hits. Bettis also struck out five and walked none.

Fantasy Tip: If he was on any other team, Bettis would be gaining a bit more attention in fantasy circles, as he also had a decent showing last year. However, this is reminiscent of his beginning in 2015, when he carried a 3.05 ERA into mid-June before struggling for an extensive period. Thus, owners should wait to see a bit more before considering adding him. He's really more suited for NL-only leagues anyway, but could have some mixed format appeal if he can keep it up.

Rockies | Chad Bettis limits Cubbies

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 15:04:04 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis pitched six scoreless innings with just three hits and three walks allowed while striking out four batters during the Rockies' 6-1 win over the Chicago Cubs Friday, April 15.

Fantasy Tip: Bettis sits with two wins, a 2.95 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP and 14 strikeouts through 17 1/3 innings through his first three starts. He is a viable spot starter in deeper leagues and daily contests when he lands in a plus-matchup away from Coors Field. Bettis is probably best left to the waiver wire in the majority of seasonal leagues, though.

Rockies | COL to employ four-man rotation

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 18:57:40 -0700

The Colorado Rockies will use a four-man rotation to start the season, according to manager Walt Weiss. SPs Jorge De La Rosa, Chad Bettis, Tyler Chatwood and Jordan Lyles will occupy the rotation spots. The club isn't expected to need a fifth starter until sometime between April 14, in a game versus the San Francisco Giants, and April 16, in a game versus the Chicago Cubs. At that point, SP Jon Gray (abdomen) could be ready to return from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Of the four healthy starters, De La Rosa has the most fantasy value but should be viewed as nothing more than a late-round option for mixed leagues. Gray should remain stashed in dynasty and keeper formats, as well as NL-only leagues.

Rockies | Chad Bettis, Tyler Chatwood lead spring rotation

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 13:21:23 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis and SP Tyler Chatwood are the leaders of the starting rotation this spring. Bettis has a 3.75 ERA, eight strikeouts, two walks, and a .267 batting average against in 12 innings, while Chatwood has a 3.27 ERA, five strikeouts, six walks, and a .167 batting average against in 11 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Jorge De La Rosa also has had a decent spring even though his earned run average (4.63) is pretty high. Right now Bettis and Chatwood look like decent late-round options in NL and mixed leagues, but beware of the Coors Field effect as always.

Rockies | Chad Bettis good lately

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 09:08:48 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis is 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA in his last two starts against the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres. He will face the Pittsburgh Pirates Thursday, Sept. 24.

Fantasy Tip: The Pirates are a different beast than the M's and Padres, but after clinching a playoff spot last night they could rest a lot of their regulars Thursday. Still, Bettis ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is a deep sleeper for your second pitching slot on FantasyScore. He owns a 4.46 ERA and 1.39 WHIP on the season.

Giants | Buster Posey out Saturday

Sat, 05 Sep 2015 16:17:10 -0700

San Francisco Giants C Buster Posey is not starting Saturday, Sept. 5, against the Colorado Rockies. Posey's replacement is C Hector Sanchez, who will bat seventh against Rockies SP Chad Bettis.

Fantasy Tip: Although the Giants said they might rest some starters periodically, it's a surprise to see Posey ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) seated with a .520 batting average in the past week. That's a risk for a hot hitter to sit down, even for a day.
