Braves | Jeff Francoeur takes a seat

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 12:56:43 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jeff Francoeur is not in the lineup against Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis on Saturday, July 16. 2B/OF Jace Peterson will draw a rare start in left field and bat leadoff.

Fantasy Tip: Francoeur is on an eight-game hitting streak and has two homers to go along with seven RBI over his last four contests, but he can safely be left on waivers in mixed leagues. Peterson is hitting .282 for the season but doesn't provide enough punch anywhere else to be used outside of NL-only leagues.

Diamondbacks | Jake Lamb back in lineup

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 12:19:18 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 3B Jake Lamb is in the lineup Sunday, June 26, against Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis and will bat fourth. OF Rickie Weeks will start in place of Peter O'Brien in left and hit fifth, while C Chris Herrmann will be behind the plate in place of C Welington Castillo and bat sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Lamb plays primarily against right-handers and has been mashing them for the better part of the season, hitting .310 with 12 homers and 39 RBI in 197 at-bats, although he is only 1-for-12 in his career against Bettis. Weeks is 2-for-2 versus the Rockies' right-hander, but he's a risky bet in any format. Herrmann has been exceptional whenever he's received a chance to play this year and makes for a solid DFS play today as well as a great fill-in for any starting fantasy catcher around the league that is getting the day off.

Rockies | Chad Bettis solid in win

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 21:56:13 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis surrendered four runs -- two earned -- on eight hits in six innings against the New York Yankees on Tuesday, June 21. He walked one and matched his season high with eight strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Bettis got the better of the Yankees for the second time in a week, and he moved to 6-5 on the year in the process. He's uneven and tends to allow a lot of hits, but he doesn't allow a lot of free passes. Still, Bettis is best suited to NL-only leagues.

Yankees | Ike Davis not starting vs. Rockies

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 13:07:16 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Ike Davis is not starting Tuesday, June 21, against the Colorado Rockies. 2B Rob Refsnyder is starting at first and will bat ninth against Rockies SP Chad Bettis.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like a normal night off for Davis. Refsnyder has eight hits in his last six games and seems to be in the Yankees' good graces. Despite his batting ninth, Refsnyder is a decent start in daily leagues and is getting valuable position strength with more games at first.

Yankees | Jacoby Ellsbury on bench Tuesday

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 12:53:46 -0700

New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, June 21, against the Colorado Rockies. OF Aaron Hicks replaces Ellsbury in center and will bat eighth against Rockies SP Chad Bettis.

Fantasy Tip: Ellsbury is getting his first day off in two weeks, so he may be available for pinch-hit duties. Hicks is 5-for-14 (.357) in the last week but may have muted fantasy value because of his position in the lineup.

Rockies | Chad Bettis spins quality outing in win

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 16:00:56 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis allowed three runs -- just two earned -- on seven hits while striking out seven batters through six innings during the Rockies' 6-3 win over the New York Yankees Wednesday, June 15.

Fantasy Tip: Bettis is a long-end starter in cavernous mixed and NL-only formats, but he has tossed the occasional gem, which makes him a viable flier in daily contests. Still, his 5.63 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 58 strikeouts through 78 1/3 innings don't inspire much confidence, especially when he takes the hill at Coors Field.

Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa to start Tuesday

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 07:29:48 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa will start against the New York Yankees Tuesday, June 14. As a result, SP Chad Bettis will have his scheduled start moved back to Wednesday, June 15.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa is 2-4 with an 8.81 ERA in nine appearances (six starts) this season, with 15 walks and 39 strikeouts over 31 2/3 innings. He had pitched better since being demoted to the bullpen, posting a 1.13 ERA in three appearances, but he should continue to be viewed as a risky play in all formats until he can string together several decent starts.

Rockies | Chad Bettis gets tuned up

Tue, 31 May 2016 00:03:16 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis was bounced around for six earned runs, eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts over 3 2/3 innings in a loss Monday, May 30, against the Cincinnati Reds.

Fantasy Tip: Bettis has dropped each of his past two starts and his ERA has mushroomed from 4.18 to 5.46 as a result. He cannot be trusted outside of deeper NL-only fantasy leagues right now.

MLB | Rockies-Pirates postponed

Sun, 22 May 2016 15:15:48 -0700

The game between the Colorado Rockies and Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday, May 22, was postponed due to rain after one inning. The game has been rescheduled for Monday, May 23. Pittsburgh Pirates SP Juan Nicasio and Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis were the pitchers. There was no word on their status for Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Because the game already started any players are stuck in your lineup. As far as the stats, they do not count because the game did not go an official five innings.

Rockies | Chad Bettis earns victory

Wed, 18 May 2016 00:56:51 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis allowed only two base runners in scoring position until the seventh inning Tuesday, May 17, against the St. Louis Cardinals. Bettis gave up five singles in 6 2/3 innings, walking two and striking out four, in a 3-1 win. Bettis is now 4-2 overall.

Fantasy Tip: Despite pitching in the bleak hole known as Coors Field, Bettis has 12 walks and 42 strikeouts this season. His record is now 3-1 on the road, and it looks like Bettis won't be falling into a slump anytime soon. His nearly 3.5-1 strikeout-walk ratio makes him a strong fantasy value.
