Rays | Steve Souza out of the lineup

Fri, 27 May 2016 12:25:31 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza is not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka Friday, May 27. OF Brandon Guyer will start in right field, while OF Corey Dickerson will start in left field. 1B Steve Pearce will serve as the designated hitter, while INF Taylor Motter will start at second base and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Motter has received playing time at multiple positons since being recalled but is hitting only .222 in eight games. He does have two home runs and four RBI during that span, which makes him a sleeper starting candidate for desperate owners in daily fantasy leagues. Guyer, Dickerson and Pearce are good options to be used in daily leagues.

Rays | Corey Dickerson picks up three hits

Thu, 26 May 2016 16:43:05 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Corey Dickerson went 3-for-4 Thursday, May 26, against the Miami Marlins. All three hits were singles, raising his batting average to .197.

Fantasy Tip: Dickerson has been one of the biggest busts of any offseason acquisition, but hopefully this performance can turn things back around, as he was really the only one in the lineup who could get anything going against a masterful Jose Fernandez. Still, after a fine April, Dickerson has slumped mightily in May, with just 11 hits in 62 at-bats. At least he has eight homers on the year.

Rays | Desmond Jennings out Thursday

Thu, 26 May 2016 09:11:02 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings is not in the starting lineup Thursday, May 26. OF Corey Dickerson draws into the lineup in left field and is hitting seventh against Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez. Also, SS Taylor Motter is playing third base and batting eighth with 3B Evan Longoria serving as the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Dickerson and Motter have some pop, but neither is a strong choice in daily play today against Fernandez, who has a 3.02 ERA and 78 K's in just 53 2/3 innings.

Rays | Corey Dickerson, Brad Miller out

Wed, 25 May 2016 15:26:28 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Corey Dickerson and SS Brad Miller are not in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins left-handed SP Justin Nicolino Wednesday, May 25. OF Brandon Guyer is the designated and is hitting leadoff again, OF Mikie Mahtook is starting in left field and batting second and SS Taylor Motter is at the 6 and is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Guyer has been a consistent source of production of late (.314-4-10 in May) and is a fine value choice in daily game tonight against Nicolino. Mahtook did manage nine home runs and a .295 average last year and could be a successful deep sleeper given his lineup position. Motter has also earned some more playing time with two home runs in his first 13 major league at-bats. He, however, is more of a desperation low-end selection at shortstop.

Rays | Corey Dickerson back in the lineup

Tue, 24 May 2016 08:03:11 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Corey Dickerson is hitting seventh Tuesday, May 24, after he was out of the lineup the last two days.

Fantasy Tip: Dickerson is hitting just .132 this month, but he has eight homers and 18 RBI. He's a fringe option right now against Tom Koehler in DFS.

Rays | Three Tampa regulars sitting

Mon, 23 May 2016 11:15:29 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Brad Miller and OFs Desmond Jennings and Corey Dickerson are not in the starting lineup Monday, May 23. SS Taylor Motter is at the 6 and is hitting seventh, while OF Brandon Guyer is starting in left field and batting leadoff against Miami Marlins SP Wei-Yin Chen.

Fantasy Tip: The Rays lose the DH playing in a National League park this week, so Dickerson could be out again tomorrow. Guyer has taken advantage of his increased opportunities this month and is batting .306 with three home runs and nine RBI. He's a fine value play in daily formats. Motter is a low-end shortstop option.

Rays | Desmond Jennings playing center field

Sun, 22 May 2016 07:18:21 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings is batting seventh and playing center field against Detroit Tigers SP Jordan Zimmermann Sunday, May 22. In addition, INF Tim Beckham is batting eighth and playing second base. OF Corey Dickerson is not in Sunday's lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Jennings could receive a long look in center field after Kevin Kiermaier (hand) was placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a fractured left hand. However, he is off to a slow start at the plate this season, batting just .186 with three home runs and 10 RBI through his first 102 at-bats. Beckham is just 8-for-46 (.174) and should be viewed as nothing more than a source of salary cap relief in daily fantasy games.

Rays | Three Rays sitting Wednesday

Wed, 18 May 2016 12:43:12 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Brad Miller, OF Corey Dickerson and 1B Steve Pearce are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 18. SS Taylor Motter starts at the 6 and is hitting second, OF Brandon Guyer is the designated hitter and is hitting leadoff, while SS Tim Beckham is starting at second base and batting ninth against Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey.

Fantasy Tip: Motter hit his first big league homer last night but is a low-end middle infield option in daily setups, even while hitting in the two-hole. Beckham has a similar profile to Motter but is even less attractive at the bottom of the order. Guyer is your value pick of the trio, as he's been seeing starts on a regular basis and is hitting .313 with three home runs and nine RBI this month.

Rays | Three Tampa regulars out vs. lefty

Mon, 16 May 2016 14:01:12 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Brad Miller, OF Corey Dickerson and 1B Logan Morrison are not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays left-handed SP J.A. Happ Monday, May 16. SS Taylor Motter is starting at the 6 and is in the two-hole, while OF Brandon Guyer is serving as the designated hitter and batting leadoff. 1B Steve Pearce is at first base and is hitting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Happ has pitched excellent this year, so it's a tough draw for the Tampa hitters Monday night. Guyer (.351/.444/.703 this month) and Pearce do have sleeper appeal, though, and both are in great lineups spots to return some value. Motter was hitting only .190 with four home runs and 10 RBI at Class AAA Durham before being called up, so he's a desperation daily play.

Rays | Corey Dickerson, Logan Morrison out

Fri, 13 May 2016 14:22:27 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Corey Dickerson and 1B Logan Morrison are not in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics left-handed SP Rich Hill Friday, May 13. OF Brandon Guyer is serving as the designated hitter and is batting leadoff, while 1B Steve Pearce is starting at first base and is hitting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Guyer has played considerably well (.345/.472/.517) with two home runs and four RBI in limited playing time off the bench and could see more time if Desmond Jennings continues to struggle. Guyer is a decent value play in daily contests and is worth a look as a pickup in deep mixed and AL-only leagues if he continues to play every day. Pearce has some pop and has four of his five homers off lefties, making him an acceptable sleeper pick in DFS, as well.
