Angels | Daniel Nava to head out for rehab soon

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 23:47:43 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava (knee) is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list Sunday, May 1, as he is nearly recovered after a bout of left patellar tendinitis. He might start getting some at-bats in a minor-league rehab assignment sometime next week.

Fantasy Tip: Avoid Nava in AL-only fantasy leagues and DFS play until he can officially return, knock off the rust and prove his health in a full game or two without any setbacks.

Angels | Daniel Nava resumes baseball activities

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 09:11:10 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava (knee) has resumed several baseball activities, including taking swings off a tee. Although he can be activated from the disabled list as soon as next week, no date has been established for a rehab assignment. Nava has been sidelined since last week due to tendinitis in his left knee.

Fantasy Tip: Rafael Ortega is platooning with Craig Gentry in left field for as long as Nava is sidelined but none of these players should be used outside of AL-only fantasy leagues. Nava was hitting .286 in 14 at-bats this season prior to getting hurt.

Angels | Daniel Nava not hitting yet

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 14:47:27 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava (knee) has been taking throws at first base but has yet to resume hitting.

Fantasy Tip: Nava should return to the strong side of a platoon in left field for the Halos when he's ready to come off the DL. However, Nava doesn't do much for fantasy owners in any one category, and he should be left to those in AL-only universes.

Angels | Daniel Nava to DL

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 16:04:04 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava (knee) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, April 16, with left knee tendonitis. Manager Mike Scioscia said the knee gave Nava trouble in spring training and flared up again. OF Rafael Ortega was recalled from Class AAA Salt Lake.

Fantasy Tip: Ortega will likely platoon with Craig Gentry in left field, but neither of them possess a lot of fantasy luster right now.

Angels | Daniel Nava returning to lineup

Mon, 11 Apr 2016 15:11:58 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava (finger), who suffered a lacerated left index finger last Friday, is returning to the starting lineup and is batting second against Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray Monday, April 11.

Fantasy Tip: Nava doesn't do much for fantasy owners in any format, and he's especially unattractive coming off a finger injury facing one of the better pitchers in baseball Monday night.

Angels | Daniel Nava sits

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 16:21:58 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava is out of the lineup Saturday, April 9, with OF Craig Gentry hitting second.

Fantasy Tip: The left-handed hitting Nava sits out against lefty Cole Hamels. Gentry's .261 average against lefties the last three years isn't anything special to give him a start in fantasy tonight.

Angels | Daniel Nava has knee flare-up

Fri, 01 Apr 2016 16:38:43 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava (knee) had a setback with his knee earlier this week, but he said he could play if needed Friday, April 1.

Fantasy Tip: The Angels are being cautious, so Nava should be ready for opening night Sunday against the Chicago Cubs. He's likely to platoon in left field this year with Craig Gentry or Todd Cunningham, which automatically likely limits his fantasy value to AL leagues. He could be a cheap daily commodity in the right matchups, but that won't be Sunday against Jake Arrieta.

Angels | Daniel Nava dodges possible concussion

Sat, 19 Mar 2016 15:51:04 -0700

Updating a previous story, Los Angeles Angels OF Daniel Nava (head) reportedly passed all of his concussion tests on Saturday, March 19, after he was hit in the helmet by a pitch during an exhibition game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Fantasy Tip: Good news for Nava, who has a bruise on his head but is otherwise no worse for wear. Expect the 33-year-old, who is 14-for-26 with seven RBI this spring, to sit a few days before returning. For fantasy purposes, only owners in deeper leagues and DFS players need to concern themselves with tracking Nava at the moment.

Angels | Daniel Nava leaves after HBP

Sat, 19 Mar 2016 14:41:50 -0700

Los Angeles Angels OF Daniel Nava (head) was hit in the helmet by a pitch from Milwaukee Brewers SP Wily Peralta on Saturday, March 19. Nava eventually walked to first base under his own power before he was replaced by Rafael Ortega.

Fantasy Tip: Nava, who is 14-for-26 with seven RBI this spring, will almost certainly be checked for a concussion. Unless he can continue swinging a hot bat this spring and parlay that into more playing time, the 33-year-old switch-hitter appears to stuck in a committee with Todd Cunningham and Craig Gentry, reducing him to an occasional bargain-bin DFS option.

Angels | Daniel Nava healthy

Mon, 14 Mar 2016 13:36:48 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava is healthy this spring after dealing with a sprained left thumb the first four months of the 2015 season, which kept him from holding the bat with his top hand. He also dealt with a left knee injury all summer. Nava has 10 hits (three for extra bases) in 17 at-bats in his first seven spring games. He has walked four times and hasn't struck out. Nava could not hit for power last year because of his knee ailment. The Angels are hoping Nava can hit second in front of OF Mike Trout this year against righties.

Fantasy Tip: Nava is expected to serve in a platoon role in left field this year. Since he's on the strong side of a platoon, he could be worth a waiver wire pickup in deep mixed leagues if he's producing, but he should mainly be left to AL-only leagues.
