Angels | Daniel Nava back to the DL

Tue, 17 May 2016 15:52:36 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava (groin) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, May 17. OF Rafael Ortega was called up from the minors in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Nava just can't stay healthy and should be jettisoned at this point in deep mixed leagues if you owned him. Ortega, who hit .294 (15-for-51) with no home runs and four RBI earlier this year, is likely to start in left field against righties. He doesn't have a ton of offensive upside, so consider him as outfield depth in AL leagues.

Angels | Daniel Nava exits

Mon, 16 May 2016 23:36:43 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava (groin) left the game Monday, May 16, with a left groin strain. He'll have an MRI Tuesday, May 17.

Fantasy Tip: The Halos are running out of healthy bodies. Shane Robinson could get first crack at left field if Nava requires a DL stint. Todd Cunningham or Nick Buss could be options at Class AAA Salt Lake. None of them really have much value except as AL-only depth.

Angels | Kole Calhoun in two-hole again

Tue, 10 May 2016 15:11:41 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Kole Calhoun is hitting second for the second straight game against St. Louis Cardinals SP Mike Leake Tuesday, May 10. OF Daniel Nava moves down to the fifth spot in the order.

Fantasy Tip: It's a more familiar lineup position for Calhoun, and he should benefit from hitting ahead of Mike Trout. Calhoun's .295 average is nice, but his owners are likely concerned with just two home runs and 12 RBI. If he sticks in this spot, his numbers could improve in the power department. Continue running him out there in traditional leagues, and he's not a bad midrange outfielder in daily games.

Angels | Daniel Nava, Johnny Giavotella out

Sun, 08 May 2016 11:07:59 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava and 2B Johnny Giavotella are not in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Andriese Sunday, May 8. SS Cliff Pennington will start at second base and is batting seventh, while OF Ji-Man Choi will start in left field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Pennington has gone 3-for-12 with zero RBI in five games this month and is not a great fantasy option in most leagues. Choi is hitting only .067 this season and should be avoided in all leagues.

Angels | Daniel Nava activated, starting

Fri, 06 May 2016 15:58:49 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava (knee) was activated from the disabled list and is hitting second against Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer Friday, May 6.

Fantasy Tip: Nava is expected to return to the strong side of a platoon in left field. He doesn't do anything particularly well in one area for fantasy owners, so he's mainly a depth option in AL-only leagues. He draws a tough matchup in his first game back. Avoid him in all daily leagues, too.

Angels | Daniel Nava back this weekend?

Mon, 02 May 2016 16:21:05 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava (knee) will begin his rehab assignment with Class A Inland Empire Monday, May 2, and he could be ready to come off the disabled list this weekend. He's expected to resume his role as the starting left fielder against right-handed pitchers. OF Rafael Ortega or 1B Ji-Man Choi are the options to be sent down when Nava returns. Choi, a Rule 5 pick, can't be optioned or the Angels will lose him.

Fantasy Tip: The good news is that Nava is guaranteed to return to the strong side of a platoon when he's ready since the Angels don't have any better options. The bad news is that Nava doesn't help fantasy owners very much in any one particular category. He's strictly AL-only fodder for outfield depth.

Angels | Daniel Nava to head out for rehab soon

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 23:47:43 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava (knee) is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list Sunday, May 1, as he is nearly recovered after a bout of left patellar tendinitis. He might start getting some at-bats in a minor-league rehab assignment sometime next week.

Fantasy Tip: Avoid Nava in AL-only fantasy leagues and DFS play until he can officially return, knock off the rust and prove his health in a full game or two without any setbacks.

Angels | Daniel Nava resumes baseball activities

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 09:11:10 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava (knee) has resumed several baseball activities, including taking swings off a tee. Although he can be activated from the disabled list as soon as next week, no date has been established for a rehab assignment. Nava has been sidelined since last week due to tendinitis in his left knee.

Fantasy Tip: Rafael Ortega is platooning with Craig Gentry in left field for as long as Nava is sidelined but none of these players should be used outside of AL-only fantasy leagues. Nava was hitting .286 in 14 at-bats this season prior to getting hurt.

Angels | Daniel Nava not hitting yet

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 14:47:27 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava (knee) has been taking throws at first base but has yet to resume hitting.

Fantasy Tip: Nava should return to the strong side of a platoon in left field for the Halos when he's ready to come off the DL. However, Nava doesn't do much for fantasy owners in any one category, and he should be left to those in AL-only universes.

Angels | Daniel Nava to DL

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 16:04:04 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava (knee) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, April 16, with left knee tendonitis. Manager Mike Scioscia said the knee gave Nava trouble in spring training and flared up again. OF Rafael Ortega was recalled from Class AAA Salt Lake.

Fantasy Tip: Ortega will likely platoon with Craig Gentry in left field, but neither of them possess a lot of fantasy luster right now.
