Red Sox | Daneil Nava hitting fifth

Tue, 19 Aug 2014 12:35:29 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Daniel Nava is hitting fifth and playing left field Tuesday, Aug. 19, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Fantasy Tip: Nava has been swinging a hot bat since the calendar flipped to June. In his last 54 games, Nava has a .329 batting average. He doesn't offer much upside in the counting stats, but he should be on your radar in the majority of leagues. He could lose additional playing time when Allen Craig returns, though.

Red Sox | Koji Uehara and three others on waivers

Mon, 18 Aug 2014 09:54:47 -0700

The Boston Red Sox placed RP Koji Uehara, 1B Mike Napoli, 1B/OF Daniel Nava and 3B Will Middlebrooks on revocable trade waivers.

Fantasy Tip: There's a chance one of them will be traded, so NL-only players might have another commodity to buy soon. If Uehara is dealt, expect Junichi Tazawa to take over save chances for Boston. Grab him if you can for this possibility.

Red Sox | Allen Craig to DL

Tue, 05 Aug 2014 09:25:29 -0700

The Boston Red Sox placed OF Allen Craig (foot) on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, Aug. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Craig's 2014 season isn't going the way he or his fantasy owners had hopes; he's hitting just .237 with seven home runs and 44 RBIs. Many were hoping that a change of scenery would spark him to finish the season strong, but this is just another setback. Hang onto him in deep mixed leagues, but in shallow mixed formats, you can probably let him go. Mookie Betts and Daniel Nava will benefit from Craig's absence with more playing time.

Red Sox | Allen Craig starting

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 15:18:23 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Allen Craig is in the starting lineup for his debut with the team Friday, Aug. 1, and he's playing left field. Manager John Farrell said OF Daniel Nava will continue to see regular at-bats with Craig around, and it won't be a strict platoon situation.

Fantasy Tip: Hmmm. Craig had already become a frustrating play with the St. Louis Cardinals, and it looks like, at least initially, that might also be the case in his new home. The change of scenery could still spark a solid finish to the season, though, so follow his progress in deep mixed and AL-only leagues.
