St. Louis Cardinals P Tyrell Jenkins (lat) underwent season-ending surgery Monday, Aug. 5, to repair the latissimus muscle in his right shoulder. The recovery time is six to eight months.

St. Louis Cardinals farm director John Vuch confirmed Friday, July 19, that prospect P Tyrell Jenkins (lat) will be sidelined at least another three to four weeks due to a strained right latissimus muscle. Jenkins was recently promoted to Class A Palm Beach, but he made only three starts before suffering the injury.

St. Louis Cardinals 19-year-old SP Tyrell Jenkins has impressed at camp. Jenkins, whose fastball tops out above 95 mph, has an advanced mix of pitches for his level. He has a changeup, sinker and a sharp curveball. He'll probably begin the season at Low-A Quad Cities.

Cardinals | Close to signing Tyrell Jenkins

The St. Louis Cardinals are close to signing P Tyrell Jenkins, a supplemental pick in this year's draft, and a deal could be announced Friday, Aug. 13, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Derrick Goold. Jenkins could receive a signing bonus of $1.3 million.

The St. Louis Cardinals will sign supplemental pick P Tyrell Jenkins sometime this week, KLTV.com's Coleman Swierc reports. Within the next week, Jenkins will report to the Cardinals Single-A club in Johnson City, Tenn.
