Mariners | Taijuan Walker lights up box score

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 23:49:01 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker allowed a run on six hits and a walk while matching a career high with 11 strikeouts in seven innings to beat the Houston Astros Monday, April 25.

Fantasy Tip: Walker is 2-0 with a 1.44 ERA, a 0.96 WHIP and 25 K's in as many innings as it appears he may finally be harnessing his massive potential. He's a daily consideration in most matchups.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker whiffs six in victory

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 22:20:48 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker allowed one unearned run, three hits and no walks with six strikeouts over six innings in a win Wednesday, April 20, against the Cleveland Indians.

Fantasy Tip: Walker has lasted at least six innings in each of his three outings, allowing two or fewer runs. He has gotten off to a strong start with three quality starts in three innings, and he has a 0.94 WHIP so far. As such, he is a must-start in most fantasy formats and a great DFS play.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker effective again

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 15:44:05 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker notched his second consecutive quality start to begin the season Wednesday, April 13, opposite the Texas Rangers. He went six innings, surrendering one run on five hits, while also walking two and striking out four.

Fantasy Tip: Despite his lower number of strikeouts thus far, owners have to be happy with the way Walker has pitched out of the gate. The key thing for him is that he's had his command, having issued just one walk combined in his first two starts. If Walker can continue to minimize the free passes, he has the chance to be an upper echelon starting pitcher, especially since he should get his K's back up at some point. He shouldn't be available in any leagues.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker gets worked over

Mon, 14 Mar 2016 19:36:49 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker allowed four runs and seven hits over 3 1/3 innings in his Cactus League spring outing Monday, March 14, against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Fantasy Tip: Walker has been working on a two-seamer in the spring to add to his repertoire, so he might have been experimenting and his stat line shouldn't be taken too terribly seriously. Fantasy owners should still target Walker early on draft day for his high amount of strikeouts.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker working on new pitch

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 23:27:43 -0800

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker is working on a two-seamer to add to his arsenal of pitches.

Fantasy Tip: Watch his stat lines over the next couple of spring appearances. As he works to perfect a new pitch, he could get tuned up. Stats in the spring should be of little concern, as pitchers try new things before the games start to count for real.

Mariners | No innings limit for Taijuan Walker

Tue, 23 Feb 2016 17:01:21 -0800

Seattle Mariners SPs Taijuan Walker and James Paxton will not have their innings limited in 2016, according to manager Scott Servais. However, both pitchers will be watched carefully. Walker had 169 2/3 innings last year at 22 years old, and Paxton threw only 67 frames because of a finger ailment.

Fantasy Tip: Walker got off to a horrendous start last year, and his overall numbers were never able to fully recover. But he finished strong and has all the tools to improve drastically as a breakout candidate in 2016. Paxton is a forgotten man because of his injury and may not even make the rotation. He's purely AL-only fodder for now.

Marlins | Marcell Ozuna won't come cheap

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 11:09:23 -0800

The Miami Marlins are asking for a lot in return for OF Marcell Ozuna, and they've already asked for Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura, Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker and Cleveland Indians SP Danny Salazar.

Fantasy Tip: Ozuna would likely benefit from a change of scenery after he was demoted to the minors for struggling at the major league level early last season. Remember, he's just a year removed from a .269/.317/.455 season with 23 home runs in 153 games, so there is surely sleeper potential, especially if he lands in a better situation.

Marlins | Marcell Ozuna not close to being dealt

Wed, 25 Nov 2015 11:04:03 -0800

Miami Marlins OF Marcell Ozuna has been discussed plenty in trade talks this offseason, but he's not close to being dealt, according to a source. The Seattle Mariners are another team showing interest in him, but it's unclear if Seattle is considered a front-runner. Miami will not accept a "low-ball" offer for Ozuna. The Marlins are in the market for a controllable, high-end starting pitcher. Mariners SP Taijuan Walker would likely be most attractive to the Marlins, but Seattle has said he's not available. The Cleveland Indians also are believed to have interest in Ozuna.

Fantasy Tip: It seems inevitable that Ozuna will be traded this offseason, and a change of scenery could do him wonders after he struggled in 2015 (.259-10-44). He has the raw skills to deliver big numbers, though, after posting 23 bombs and 85 RBI in 2014, and leaving Miami for a more hitter-friendly environment would surely make him an undervalued guy to target in the later rounds in fantasy drafts.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker shut down for 2015

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 14:09:46 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker will not pitch again in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Walker had an up-and-down season, and enters 2016 with oodles of upside. He was extremely polarizing with 10 starts with one or zero earned runs allowed and eight outings with five or more runs allowed. He finished the season with 11 wins, a 4.56 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP and a 8.3 K/9 through 169 2/3 innings over 29 starts this season. Entering his age-23 season, the arrow is pointing straight up for Walker.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker could start again

Fri, 18 Sep 2015 18:16:06 -0700

Seattle Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said SP Taijuan Walker could start again before the end of the regular season, even though he had his most recent outing skipped because of his workload. He has thrown 169 2/3 innings this year through 29 starts, after tossing 129 innings in 2014 and 156 innings in 2013.

Fantasy Tip: Walker ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) is 10-5 with a 3.92 ERA over his last 24 starts. His best chance to receive another start could be during next weekend's series against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, since no starter has been named for the game Saturday, Sept. 26.
