Mariners | Taijuan Walker to throw Wednesday

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 16:41:24 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker (foot) is scheduled to throw a simulated game Wednesday, July 27.

Fantasy Tip: Walker probably will make at least rehab start before he returns and is a few weeks away from joining the rotation. Owners should continue to hold onto Walker because he currently has a 3.66 ERA and did have some solid starts when he was healthy.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker to play catch

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 16:50:26 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker (foot) is scheduled to play catch the next two days and then move to a bullpen session in Toronto. He will need a rehab start before returning. He has been thinking more about offseason surgery, and the recovery time would be four months. Surgery would include an incision on the inside of his foot to shave the bone down.

Fantasy Tip: Walker has all the tools to be a top-line fantasy starter, but his foot injury has likely contributed to a very up-and-down 2016 season. He's sporting a 3.66 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and is striking out a career-high 8.4 hitters per nine innings. For his potential alone, he's worth stashing everywhere, but until his foot is surgically fixed there's plenty of risk involved.

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 12:13:53 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker (foot) will resume light throwing shortly after having the walking boot removed from his right foot Sunday, July 17. He is expected to return from the disabled list in several weeks.

Fantasy Tip: The 23-year-old right-hander is 4-7 with a 3.66 ERA through 16 starts this season, with 18 walks and 80 strikeouts through 86 innings. He should remain stashed in all fantasy formats.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker back in two weeks?

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 18:23:45 -0700

Seattle Mariners P Taijuan Walker (foot) was diagnosed with tendinitis in his right foot by a specialist Sunday, July 10, and he could return to the rotation in two weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Mike Montgomery impressed in his first start of the year, and he could be a sneaky DFS sleeper until Walker returns.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker to see foot specialist

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 14:11:34 -0700

Updating a previous report, Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker (foot) will be examined by a foot and ankle specialist in Charlotte N.C., Sunday, July 10.

Fantasy Tip: Walker was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, July 6, and he's been dealing with tendinitis in his right foot for a couple weeks. The high-risk, high-reward hurler is worth stashing in all fantasy leagues for now, and expect an update on his status following the checkup Sunday.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker placed on DL

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 13:34:34 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker (foot) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, July 6.

Fantasy Tip: Walker has been battling a foot injury for a few weeks, and he lasted just four innings during his latest start Tuesday, July 5. Walker is worth stashing in all seasonal leagues. Just remember, though, he's been one of the most inconsistent fantasy pitchers in the league over the past two seasons. Stay tuned for updates.

Astros | A.J. Reed leaves the yard again

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 23:56:10 -0700

Houston Astros rookie 1B A.J. Reed finished 1-for-3 with a two-run shot - one of three homers allowed by Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker - on Tuesday, July 5.

Fantasy Tip: Reed went 0-for-16 to begin his big-league career, but he is 3-for-9 since with two home runs. The 23-year-old is the future at first base for the Astros and will almost certainly be given plenty of time to get comfortable at the plate. The power he is already showing is backed up by his strong home run numbers in the minors, but he's going to need a little more time before he is a factor in most mixed leagues.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker leaves start early

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 19:17:41 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker (foot) was lifted from his start Tuesday, July 5, against the Houston Astros due to more discomfort in his right foot.

Fantasy Tip: Walker will now get plenty of time to heal with the All-Star break looming, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him miss his next scheduled start over the weekend. If you're in a fantasy league which allows daily moves, be proactive and reserve him now.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker plays through pain, wins

Fri, 01 Jul 2016 05:36:57 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker (foot) had no walks and five strikeouts Thursday, June 30, in a 5-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles. Walker allowed just four hits and only one runner past first base.

Fantasy Tip: Walker is a risky pitch because of his injury, but he intends to work through the pain for the time being. You may want to limit Walker to DFS formats just in case he is scratched, but if you must play him in regular leagues have backups ready.

Mariners | Nathan Karns heading to 'pen

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 16:20:30 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Nathan Karns will head to the bullpen for the time being with SP Taijuan Walker (foot) going Thursday, June 30, and SP Wade LeBlanc starting Friday, July 1.

Fantasy Tip: It's not a permanent move for Karns, but it'll kill most of his limited fantasy value in the meantime. Walker has been up and down most of the year and is a high-risk, high-reward start against the Orioles Thursday. LeBlanc probably won't be long for a rotation spot and should be avoided against the powerful Baltimore lineup.
