Mariners | Taijuan Walker's struggles continue

Sun, 24 May 2015 15:06:33 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker fell to 0-4 in six starts on the road this season as the Mariners fell 8-2 to the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday, May 24. He allowed four runs and six hits in 5-2/3 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Walker ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has had struggles this season, but it sounds like manager Lloyd McClendon is still a believer in him. However, you should keep your distance until Walker turns things around.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker having hard-luck start

Mon, 18 May 2015 04:47:05 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker has held opponents to three runs or fewer in four of his last five starts.

Fantasy Tip: Walker ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) carries a 1-4 record and 7.22 ERA into his start Monday, May 18, and that record is largely due to a horrific early-season slump. He appears to be stabilizing, although you may want to hold off on starting him until Walker appears to have all the yips out of the way.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker, Roenis Elias flipping spots

Tue, 12 May 2015 13:34:19 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker and SP Roenis Elias are flipping spots in the pitching rotation. Elias will now pitch Thursday, May 14, against the San Diego Padres, and Walker will go on Wednesday, May 13.

Fantasy Tip: Walker ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) and Elias ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) flipped spots so Elias wouldn't have to face the San Diego Padres' lineup of right-handed hitters. Walker has struggled in his first several starts so you may want to avoid this matchup. Elias is definitely a better start for now.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker with good matchup?

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 11:10:57 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker is 3-0 with a 2.91 ERA in three career starts against the Houston Astros. He's 0-2 with a 17.18 ERA to begin the 2015 season.

Fantasy Tip: Walker ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) is a risk/reward FantasyScore selection tonight against the Houston Astros. Houston is a very strikeout-prone team, but they also can go deep with the best of them. Walker is a sleeper play if you're looking to go against the grain. Hey, at least he'll be in a pitcher's park this evening.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker roughed up

Fri, 10 Apr 2015 20:53:07 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker allowed nine runs on nine hits in 3 1/3 innings against the Oakland Athletics Friday, April 10.

Fantasy Tip: Walker ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) was a popular sleeper heading into the season, and while he has the stuff to become special, tonight's outing was a reminder that young pitchers are not always the most reliable fantasy options. Consider him a matchup play at FantasyScore for now.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker the No. 4 starter

Sat, 04 Apr 2015 15:05:13 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker was named the No. 4 starter Saturday, April 4.

Fantasy Tip: Walker ($5,000, 10.0% of your cap) is one of the darlings in the fantasy circle this spring. His first matchup is projected to be in Oakland Friday, April 10. It's a good matchup at a great price on FantasyScore.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker earns rotation spot

Wed, 01 Apr 2015 13:42:38 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker is expected to be in the starting rotation this season, as he will break camp with the Mariners for the first time in his career. "He performed extremely well," said manager Lloyd McClendon. "The rotation's not set, but he's on the club."

Fantasy Tip: The Mariners aren't keeping Walker ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) around to pitch out of the bullpen, and he has been sensational in spring training. Through 25 innings this spring, Walker has 24 strikeouts with a 0.36 ERA and a 0.52 WHIP. Walker's first start will likely come against the new-look Oakland Athletics in their pitcher-friendly O.co Coliseum. FantasyScore plays could have a nice value on their hands for that start, too. Walker should be own in all seasonal formats, and is worth targeting in the middle rounds of drafts.

Mariners | Another gem from Taijuan Walker

Mon, 30 Mar 2015 14:40:08 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker recorded 18 consecutive outs to finish his start Monday, March 30. He pitched seven innings allowing one run on three hits with five strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Walker's ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) spring ERA is down to 0.36, and he has allowed just four walks while striking out 24 batters through 25 innings. His fantasy value is on the rise, and he is worth reaching for at the end of the middle rounds in seasonal leagues. FantasyScore players might have a value on their hands in the early season, too, as Walker could easily return plenty of value on his mid-range price.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker to clinch No. 5 spot?

Sun, 29 Mar 2015 12:02:14 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker appears to have won the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation, following the club's demotion of SP Roenis Elias to Triple-A Tacoma. However, manager Lloyd McClendon has not confirmed that the job is his, noting that SP Erasmo Ramirez is still in camp. SPs Felix Hernandez, James Paxton, Hisashi Iwakuma and J.A. Happ have already locked up the first four spots in the rotation.

Fantasy Tip: The 22-year-old Walker has pitched well enough to earn the job this spring, carrying a streak of 18 scoreless innings into his next scheduled start against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Monday, March 30. He was already worthy of being drafted in AL-only leagues and now it appears that owners in mixed leagues should have him on their radar as well.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker's slider impressive

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 13:42:01 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker has been working on a slider this spring, and it was much more effective in his outing Monday, March 9. He's making a strong case for a rotation spot this spring after dominating the Cleveland Indians Monday. He allowed just one hit in three scoreless innings, and he also struck out four. Walker has also shown a much-improved changeup in camp after struggling to throw his offspeed pitches for strikes so far in his career. His new slider is a variation of the cut fastball he's thrown, and it breaks with added depth.

Fantasy Tip: Walker, a post-hype prospect who is only 21 years old, could be a sleeper in the late rounds of mixed league drafts that really pays off for those willing to take a chance on him. Right now, he's only worth drafting in AL-only leagues, but if he wins a rotation spot, he'll see some love in deep mixed leagues.
