Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker (shoulder) is on track to throw his first bullpen session Thursday, March 13. It'll be his return from being shut down for a week due to shoulder bursitis.
Fantasy Tip: Walker doesn't look like he'll start the season on time but if not could emerge sometime in mid-April if all goes well. The highly regarded prospect, despite some control concerns, remains a solid late-rounds mixed buy.

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker (shoulder) remains day-to-day. He's scheduled to throw Wednesday, March 12, before the club reassesses his timetable.
Fantasy Tip: He may not start the season on time, but if he drops in your mixed draft to the point of a final-rounds, low-risk selection, it's hard not to pick him because of his big potential.

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker (shoulder) threw long toss at distances of between 120 and 150 feet in his latest session, according to manager Lloyd McClendon. "He threw the ball extremely well -- no pain whatsoever -- and he's got a smile on his face, so that's a good thing." The skipper doesn't want to establish a time table for Walker's return to exhibition action or his availability for the regular season. McClendon indicated he has no intention to push Walker.
Fantasy Tip: Walker is a top-rated talent and is deserving of fantasy attention late in drafts for mixed leagues, but if the M's prove to be overly cautious, then they're creating uncertainty about his availability and health. Let that thought serve as a tiebreaker between him and another high-upside arm in your drafts for now.

Seattle Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said SP Taijuan Walker (shoulder) likely will begin the regular season on the disabled list because of his injured shoulder.
Fantasy Tip: Owners can move him down in their rankings because he likely will miss some starts during the regular season. Erasmo Ramirez and Brandon Maurer likely will compete for his spot in the starting rotation but likely will only be options in AL-only leagues.

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker (shoulder) has been shut down for at least a week after tests showed inflammation in the bursa sac of his right shoulder. Walker flew to Los Angeles Friday, Feb. 28, to have a second opinion on his sore right shoulder. "I think it's just normal throwing, what most pitchers experience at some point," manager Lloyd McClendon said. "The MRIs were clean and were good. There was no structural damage with this guy so everything is fine from that standpoint."
Fantasy Tip: There is a very realistic chance now that Walker isn't ready for the start of the regular season, and the M's will likely be cautious with their top pitching prospect. As a result, Erasmo Ramirez and Brandon Maurer will likely battle for the final rotation spot if Walker isn't ready. Ramirez has more upside and probably a leg up in the competiton for those looking for under-the-radar arms in AL leagues.
