Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker has been working on a slider this spring, and it was much more effective in his outing Monday, March 9. He's making a strong case for a rotation spot this spring after dominating the Cleveland Indians Monday. He allowed just one hit in three scoreless innings, and he also struck out four. Walker has also shown a much-improved changeup in camp after struggling to throw his offspeed pitches for strikes so far in his career. His new slider is a variation of the cut fastball he's thrown, and it breaks with added depth.
Fantasy Tip: Walker, a post-hype prospect who is only 21 years old, could be a sleeper in the late rounds of mixed league drafts that really pays off for those willing to take a chance on him. Right now, he's only worth drafting in AL-only leagues, but if he wins a rotation spot, he'll see some love in deep mixed leagues.

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker kicked off his bid for a rotation spot with two strong innings of work Wednesday, March 4, against the San Diego Padres.
Fantasy Tip: Walker is a power arm with a chance at a rotation job. He is an exciting fantasy option in all formats if he can nail down a starting job, but he has a while to go before earning a spot. Keep monitoring the situation closely before risking a spot on him in standard leagues.
