Mariners | Taijuan Walker defeated by Baltimore

Wed, 18 May 2016 19:24:17 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker (2-3) allowed four runs on five hits over five innings in a loss to the Baltimore Orioles Wednesday, May 18, with two walks and three strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: After pitching at least six innings in all four of his April starts, Walker has not gotten out of the sixth inning through his first four May outings. He should be viewed as a somewhat risky play for his next start against the Oakland Athletics Monday, May 23.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker unravels in sixth

Wed, 11 May 2016 17:26:10 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker was enjoying a fantastic start Wednesday, May 11, versus the Tampa Bay Rays until he came apart in the sixth inning. He ended up going 5 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks. He also had nine strikeouts, en route to picking up a no-decision.

Fantasy Tip: Walker was in the midst of putting together an absolute gem, with eight strikeouts and no runs allowed through the first five innings, before that fateful sixth frame. Despite the off outing, he's still enjoying a terrific campaign, owning a shiny 2.63 ERA and 1.09 WHIP. Interestingly, Walker walked as many batters in today's assignment as he did the previous six starts. That shows how far the 23-year-old has come and he should continue to reward fantasy owners who invested in him.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker taking the next step

Thu, 05 May 2016 10:43:29 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker has a 1.80 ERA and a league-leading Fielding Independent Pitching mark of 2.06. He's also sporting a league-leading strikeout-to-walk rate of 9.67. Walker isn't giving up many home runs or walks and is inducing soft contact and ground balls. He is relying less on his four-seam fastball and more on his improved breaking balls.

Fantasy Tip: Those are sparkling numbers, and while it won't be this good all year, the end to Walker's 2015 season was a sign of things to come. He can pitch like a fantasy ace for long stretches and is the real deal.
