Marlins | Marcell Ozuna won't come cheap

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 11:09:23 -0800

The Miami Marlins are asking for a lot in return for OF Marcell Ozuna, and they've already asked for Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura, Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker and Cleveland Indians SP Danny Salazar.

Fantasy Tip: Ozuna would likely benefit from a change of scenery after he was demoted to the minors for struggling at the major league level early last season. Remember, he's just a year removed from a .269/.317/.455 season with 23 home runs in 153 games, so there is surely sleeper potential, especially if he lands in a better situation.

Marlins | Marcell Ozuna not close to being dealt

Wed, 25 Nov 2015 11:04:03 -0800

Miami Marlins OF Marcell Ozuna has been discussed plenty in trade talks this offseason, but he's not close to being dealt, according to a source. The Seattle Mariners are another team showing interest in him, but it's unclear if Seattle is considered a front-runner. Miami will not accept a "low-ball" offer for Ozuna. The Marlins are in the market for a controllable, high-end starting pitcher. Mariners SP Taijuan Walker would likely be most attractive to the Marlins, but Seattle has said he's not available. The Cleveland Indians also are believed to have interest in Ozuna.

Fantasy Tip: It seems inevitable that Ozuna will be traded this offseason, and a change of scenery could do him wonders after he struggled in 2015 (.259-10-44). He has the raw skills to deliver big numbers, though, after posting 23 bombs and 85 RBI in 2014, and leaving Miami for a more hitter-friendly environment would surely make him an undervalued guy to target in the later rounds in fantasy drafts.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker shut down for 2015

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 14:09:46 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker will not pitch again in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Walker had an up-and-down season, and enters 2016 with oodles of upside. He was extremely polarizing with 10 starts with one or zero earned runs allowed and eight outings with five or more runs allowed. He finished the season with 11 wins, a 4.56 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP and a 8.3 K/9 through 169 2/3 innings over 29 starts this season. Entering his age-23 season, the arrow is pointing straight up for Walker.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker could start again

Fri, 18 Sep 2015 18:16:06 -0700

Seattle Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said SP Taijuan Walker could start again before the end of the regular season, even though he had his most recent outing skipped because of his workload. He has thrown 169 2/3 innings this year through 29 starts, after tossing 129 innings in 2014 and 156 innings in 2013.

Fantasy Tip: Walker ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) is 10-5 with a 3.92 ERA over his last 24 starts. His best chance to receive another start could be during next weekend's series against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, since no starter has been named for the game Saturday, Sept. 26.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker to be skipped

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 15:52:58 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker will have his next turn in the rotation skipped, and the Mariners will determine if he starts again this season. Walker is currently at 169 2/3 innings on the season.

Fantasy Tip: Since there's a chance we don't see Walker ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) pitch again this year, it makes sense to cut him in all fantasy formats.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker strong Friday

Fri, 28 Aug 2015 20:18:04 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker allowed three hits and struck out six over 6 1/3 scoreless innings in a win over the Chicago White Sox Friday, Aug. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Walker ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) is one of the most frustrating pitchers, looking unhittable one start and being shelled the next. He is a high-risk, high-reward option at FantasyScore.

Mariners | Two SEA hurlers have innings limits

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 18:12:00 -0700

Seattle Mariners SPs Taijuan Walker and Mike Montgomery are expected to be shut down soon because they are close to reaching club targets for their maximum number of innings.

Fantasy Tip: It is currently unknown how many innings Walker ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) and Montgomery ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) will be allowed to throw before they will be shut down. Walker is 8-7 with a 4.60 ERA through 141 innings this season, while Montgomery is 4-6 with a 4.16 ERA through 88.2 innings.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker stymies the Twins

Sat, 01 Aug 2015 05:20:35 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker allowed one run on a single hit and walk while striking out 11 batters during his complete-game win over the Minnesota Twins Friday, July 31.

Fantasy Tip: Walker's ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) polarizing performances from start to start are near maddening. His year-long numbers haven't recovered his early season beatings (8.74 ERA after five starts), and the gem Friday was preceded by a four-game string where he allowed 18 earned runs. Walker is an elite talent, and his struggles can likely be chalked up to inexperience. He projects to continue being a high-risk, high-reward start in all fantasy formats going forward.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker worked over

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 21:24:21 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker allowed five earned runs and seven hits over 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Detroit Tigers Tuesday, July 21.

Fantasy Tip: Walker ($6,700; or 13.4% of cap) has been terrible in the month of July, going 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA in four starts. Avoid him in FantasyScore until he gets back on track.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker has uneven outing

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 04:50:03 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker gave up three home runs Tuesday, July 7, against the Detroit Tigers, but he ended up with a no-decision after his team regained the lead and then lost it in the eighth inning.

Fantasy Tip: Walker ($7,700, 15.4% of cap) has still turned around his season despite a dismal first half. Tuesday's game could have been a win, but hot-seat closer Fernando Rodney may have put another nail in his coffin with a bad performance. Keep starting Walker in FantasyScore but beware of the bullpen.
