Mets | Thor solid in no-decision

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 20:34:45 -0700

New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard allowed three runs - two earned - and seven hits with three walks and eight strikeouts over six innings in a loss in Game 1 of the doubleheader against the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday, July 26.

Fantasy Tip: Thor has managed just one win over his past five starts dating back to June 22, and he has no wins over the past three outings. Despite shaky performances by his standards, he remains a must-start across all fantasy formats and DFS play even without the wins.

Mets | Thor whiffs eight in no-decision

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 20:10:42 -0700

New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard allowed one unearned run, seven hits and two walks with eight strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision Tuesday, July 19, against the Chicago Cubs. He appeared to benefit from rest in his first start after the All-Star break.

Fantasy Tip: Syndergaard has had a couple of bumpy starts over his past four outings, but more often than not he is an innings eater with a high rate of strikeouts. Despite some rough patches lately, he remains a must-start across all fantasy formats and DFS play.

Mets | NYM set rotation for second half

Wed, 13 Jul 2016 19:32:48 -0700

New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon will open the second half Friday, July 15, against the Philadelphia Phillies, followed by SP Logan Verrett Saturday, July 16, and SP Jacob deGrom Sunday, July 17. SP Steven Matz will pitch Monday, July 18, against the Chicago Cubs while SP Noah Syndergaard works Tuesday, July 19.

Fantasy Tip: Matz probably has the worst assignment of all for fantasy owners as he works on the road against All-Star Jake Arrieta and the Cubs. Colon, Verrett and deGrom face much better circumstances facing Philadelphia.

Mets | Noah Syndergaard to throw Friday

Wed, 13 Jul 2016 05:21:53 -0700

New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard (elbow) will throw off a mound Friday, July 15.

Fantasy Tip: Monitor this session to gauge when his next start will be. Syndergaard was pitching like an SP1 before bone spurs in his elbow crept up.

Mets | Noah Syndergaard throwing Tuesday

Mon, 11 Jul 2016 16:18:57 -0700

New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard (arm) is scheduled to throw Tuesday, July 12, and does not expect to have any problems with his right arm. He hopes to avoid the arm fatigue in the future by throwing less between starts.

Fantasy Tip: Syndergaard likely will not need to be placed on the disabled list and should be able to start soon after the All-Star break. He is one of the better pitchers in baseball and is a must-start option when healthy.

New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard's (arm) arm fatigue is a minor issue, according to manager Terry Collins, but a timetable for his return remains unclear.

Mets | Noah Syndergaard has arm fatigue

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 19:52:05 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard (elbow) left his start against the Washington Nationals Friday, July 8, because of arm fatigue. The club added that his injury was "not elbow-related," even though he has bone chips in his elbow. Syndergaard was throwing between 91 and 95 mph during his final inning of work.

Fantasy Tip: Syndergaard was named to the National League All-Star team earlier in the week but this development will rule him out of pitching in the Midsummer Classic. However, it is unknown if he will need to miss any additional time following the break, so stay tuned for further updates.

Mets | Syndergaard, Matz to keep pitching

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 14:30:12 -0700

New York Mets SPs Noah Syndergaard (elbow) and Steven Matz (elbow) are both dealing with bone spurs but will continue to pitch, according to manager Terry Collins. Matz's spurs are worse and will need to be surgically removed eventually, although the Mets are hoping it can wait until the offseason. Surgery will require a three-month recovery timeline. Syndergaard's bone spur is "very small," and 90% of pitchers have something comparable, according to general manager Sandy Alderson. Syndergaard is being treated with anti-inflammatories and won't need offseason surgery. The Mets have assurances from team doctors that Matz can't do more damage by continuing to pitch through his issue. The Mets will monitor Matz on a start-to-start basis to make sure he's not changing his mechanics and compromising his body in another way. Alderson said New York will consider going to a six-man rotation when SP Zack Wheeler (elbow) returns in August.

Fantasy Tip: It's troublesome to see the Mets' young starters deal with elbow concerns, but at least they aren't significant issues. However, at least in the immediate future, that makes both Syndergaard and Matz very risky fantasy starters. Matz is a bigger question mark since his bone spurs are more significant, and the good news with Thor is that his velocity wasn't affected in his start Monday.
