Updating a previous report, Boston Red Sox minor league OF Bryce Brentz (leg) accidentally shot himself in the leg while cleaning a handgun, according to general manager Ben Cherington. The bullet entered his leg and went out the other side. He is currently recovering in Fort Myers, Fla., but will be unable to participate when spring training camp opens. There is a possibility that Brentz could see game action before the exhibition season is over. "It's something he's going to recover from and be fine, and it won't affect his baseball career," Cherington said. "I think he understands he got lucky. It's a serious thing. He's got to be careful." Cherington said the Red Sox do not have a policy against players legally owning handguns.
