Blue Jays | Aaron Sanchez struggled with command

Sun, 12 Apr 2015 05:47:17 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Aaron Sanchez was overthrowing during his start Saturday, April 11, according to manager John Gibbons. "That's with everybody you've got to throw that thing over the plate, and more than that, you've got to locate it a little bit," said Gibbons, who felt Sanchez was overthrowing. "He threw some balls, especially against those lefties, that leaked right back over the heart of the plate. They didn't miss them."

Fantasy Tip: Sanchez's ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) next start is scheduled for Thursday, April 16, against the Tampa Bay Rays. View Sanchez as a risky FantasyScore start for the game, although taking a calculated risk at his price point and against a pedestrian offense (the Rays have averaged four runs per game this season) isn't out of the question. In seasonal formats, expect Sanchez, just 22, to have a number of peeks and valleys throughout the season.

Blue Jays | Aaron Sanchez pulled early

Sat, 11 Apr 2015 17:18:02 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Aaron Sanchez was pulled from his start Saturday, April 11, against the Baltimore Orioles in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Fantasy Tip: Sanchez ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) went 3 1/3, allowing seven hits, two walks and three earned runs, while striking out only one batter. The night was made worse by the fact that Sanchez allowed two home runs, but it was not a promising start for the prized rookie. Sanchez is scheduled to make his next start Thursday, April 16, against the Tampa Bay Rays. Although Sanchez will be tempting against the non-threatening Rays' offense, owners should allow him to gain confidence before investing again.

Blue Jays | Aaron Sanchez in Toronto's rotation

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 19:12:11 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Aaron Sanchez will work in the team's rotation, although the team has declined to announce the order of its starting pitchers. Sanchez joins SPs Mark Buehrle, R.A. Dickey, Drew Hutchison and Daniel Norris in the rotation.

Fantasy Tip: Sanchez will be a bargain in FantasyScore in the early going, as he comes with a price tag of just $3,000 (or 6.0% of cap). Unless he gets absolutely hammered he will easily live up to salary expectations while saving your squad a ton of money to allocate elsewhere.

Blue Jays | Marco Estrada scratched from start

Sun, 22 Mar 2015 07:33:26 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada (ankle) was scratched from his start Sunday, March 22, after slightly injury his ankle during fielding practice.

Fantasy Tip: Estrada is competing for the fifth spot in the rotation, but his 9.39 ERA and 1.70 WHIP though 7 2/3 innings this spring aren't helping his case. More concerning is his 2.3 HR/9 mark this spring, as the long ball has plagued him throughout his career, and his new home ballpark won't help that any. Estrada is a fallback option for the fifth spot, and expect Daniel Norris and Aaron Sanchez to be the preferred options if the youngsters are ready. All three pitchers warrant AL-only attention if they land in the rotation, and Norris and Sanchez have upside in mixed leagues.

Blue Jays | Aaron Sanchez wins rotation spot

Thu, 19 Mar 2015 07:48:17 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Aaron Sanchez is pretty much assured a spot in the starting rotation, according to manager John Gibbons.

Fantasy Tip: Sanchez ($3,000; 6.0% of your cap) was amazing in relief last season, but his numbers at Double-A and Triple-A in '14 leave a bit to be desired. He was 3-7 with a 3.95 ERA, a 1.45 WHIP and 84 K's in 100 1/3 innings. Sanchez will be a low-end flyer on FantasyScore in good matchups.

Blue Jays | Will Aaron Sanchez start?

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 17:20:08 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Aaron Sanchez is one of three pitchers competing for two spots in the rotation after the likely season-ending injury to SP Marcus Stroman (knee).

Fantasy Tip: Sanchez was already in the mix for a rotation spot, but he was also considered a potential closing candidate. The loss of Stroman for the season increases the likelihood the Blue Jays will keep Sanchez stretched out even if he loses the rotation battle. Even without the potential to accumulate saves, Sanchez remains an intriguing late-round gamble based on the accolades he received as a starting pitching prospect as recently as last year and his dominant bullpen performance for Toronto.

Blue Jays | Brett Cecil may not win closer job

Tue, 03 Mar 2015 10:20:54 -0800

Toronto Blue Jays RP Brett Cecil, who has been great in a late-inning role the last two years, has the skills to be the team's ninth inning guy, but manager John Gibbons said Cecil may not win the role. SP Aaron Sanchez wants to win a spot in the starting rotation, but many believe he's the club's best option for closer. Gibbons likes to use Cecil in high-stakes situations prior to the ninth inning. "It could be one of those deals where one night he might be closing, the other night he might have to come in at the end of the seventh or eighth inning," Gibbons said.

Fantasy Tip: Some confusion could be cleared up if Sanchez outright wins a job in the starting rotation. Even then, though, this could become a closer-by-committee between Cecil and Aaron Loup. Toronto's closer battle is worth watching intently this spring. Right now, Cecil is the best late-round gamble, but things could be frustrating in this bullpen for fantasy owners.
