San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy said OF Gary Brown will play all three outfield positions this spring. 1Bs Brandon Belt and Brett Pill will also be used frequently in the outfield with OFs Andres Torres and Angel Pagan playing in the World Baseball Classic.

San Francisco Giants vice president of baseball operations Bobby Evans said OF Gary Brown remains highly regarded in the organization despite the fact that OF Angel Pagan was re-signed. The Giants will likely find a place for Brown in the outfield if he continues to excel.

San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy indicated that the team definitely does not plan to rush any of their young players in the big leagues next season. That means that SP Eric Surkamp, C Hector Sanchez and OG Gary Brown are unlikely to open the season in the majors.

San Francisco Giants general manager Brian Sabean said he doesn't want to lose P Zack Wheeler, OF Gary Brown or 1B Brandon Belt in a deal to land New York Mets OF Carlos Beltran, but the thinking is that the Giants won't have to. OF Francisco Peguero could be included in some sort of package. The Mets may also covet RP Dan Runzler.

The San Francisco Giants are very close to acquiring New York Mets OF Carlos Beltran, and a deal could be finalized as soon as Wednesday, July 27, but reports indicated that nothing is done and a deal could center around Giants P Zack Wheeler or OF Gary Brown. Beltran has indicated that he would waive his no-trade clause to play in San Francisco.
