Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B Kaleb Cowart has eliminated the high leg kick from his left-handed swing this spring while closing his stance, and it has been paying off in games. He went 2-for-4 Wednesday, Feb. 27, and he's finding more consistency at the plate. "He's just got tremendous upside," manager Mike Scioscia said of Cowart. "He hit some pretty good pitchers today, and that was encouraging. And he's looking great defensively, too."

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B Alberto Callaspo will earn $4.1 million this year and $4.875 million in 2014 as part of his two-year, $8.975 million deal to avoid arbitration. He'll also have the chance to earn more money in performance bonuses. The deal buys time for 3B Kaleb Cowart to develop in the minors.
