Dodgers | No Yasmani Grandal against Tampa

Wed, 27 Jul 2016 10:18:30 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 27. C A.J. Ellis is starting behind the plate and batting ninth against Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Grandal has seven home runs and a 1.132 OPS in July, and while he's hot at the dish, he's a viable starter in all fantasy formats. Ellis is nothing more than a low-end option in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and NL-only leagues, and you shouldn't fret fading him in daily contests Wednesday.

Dodgers | Yasmani Grandal stays hot in July

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 23:30:11 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal was 1-for-3 with a solo home run against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday, July 26. It was his seventh home run in July.

Fantasy Tip: Grandal is now hitting .309 with seven home runs and 10 RBI this month; for comparison, no other major-league backstop has more than four jacks in July. After two brutal months, Grandal's overall line isn't great, but he could be picked up if your own catcher is struggling or you're in need of a little extra pop.

Dodgers | Corey Seager, Yasmani Grandal return

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 15:14:12 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SS Corey Seager (illness) and C Yasmani Grandal (illness) are both back in the starting lineup against St. Louis Cardinals SP Michael Wacha Friday, July 22. Seager is hitting second and Grandal slots in at No. 6 in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: Seager missed three games with an illness this week but appears fine now. Get him back into all lineups immediately. The young shortstop is an elite fantasy commodity at his position with a .301 average, 17 home runs and 43 RBI. Grandal's overall .206/.321/.425 line looks bad, but he's come on strong in July with a .317 average, six home runs and nine RBI. Consider adding him if he's out there in two-catcher or NL-only leagues.

Dodgers | Yasmani Grandal dealing with illness

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 23:08:02 -0700

Updating previous reports, Los Angeles Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal (illness) was out Thursday, July 21, due to a stomach virus.

Fantasy Tip: Grandal has a .317-6-9 line this month, and he's a daily consideration when he returns. A.J. Ellis warrants no fantasy consideration in the meantime.

Dodgers | Yasmani Grandal, Yasiel Puig out

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 06:55:43 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal and OF Yasiel Puig are out of the lineup Thursday, July 21. C A.J. Ellis is hitting eighth, and OF Andrew Toles is hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Toles is hitting .267 in 15 at-bats, and Stephen Strasburg presents a tough matchup. His spot in the order doesn't lend him the upside worth the risk. Ellis isn't worth consideration with his .188 average.

Dodgers | Yasmani Grandal quieting catcher concerns

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 11:26:14 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal has five home runs and a 1.270 OPS in July, which has limited the interest of looking outside the organization for a catcher. Milwaukee Brewers C Jonathan Lucroy was of some interest to Los Angeles earlier in the season, but it has waned with Grandal's recent production.

Fantasy Tip: Grandal's a rising fantasy commodity after a slow start to the season, and he is a viable starter in all formats while playing well. Lucroy owners can expect the backstop to be traded, but it likely won't be to the Dodgers.

Dodgers | Adrian Gonzalez gets a day off

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 12:05:51 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 1B Adrian Gonzalez is not in the lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray on Sunday, July 17. 1B/OF Scott Van Slyke will replace him in the field and bat cleanup. 2B Chase Utley, C Yasmani Grandal and OF Andrew Toles are also not starting, and will be replaced by INF Chris Taylor (hitting sixth), C A.J. Ellis (seventh) and newly promoted rookie SS/OF Zach Walters (eighth), respectively.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez remains a very good hitter (.287), but he has only homered twice and driven in 17 runs since the end of May, so he can be benched in most fantasy leagues. The same can be said for Utley, while Grandal emerged as a back-end starting catcher option with a strong first-half finish. None of the today's four replacements need to be considered outside of deep mixed or NL-only formats.
