Dodgers | No setbacks for Yasmani Grandal

Fri, 29 Jan 2016 12:12:12 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal (shoulder) has already started hitting and hasn't had any setbacks after offseason shoulder surgery, according to manager Dave Roberts.

Fantasy Tip: Grandal's last two seasons have been very similar. If healthy, he's a 20-homer catching candidate, and he's excellent to have in leagues that count on-base percentage. If your leaguemates continue to pass him up, take advantage.

Dodgers | Yasmani Grandal agrees on one-year pact

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 10:29:52 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal avoided arbitration and agreed to a one-year, $2.8 million deal Friday, Jan. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Grandal was absolutely woeful after the All-Star break, registering a pitiful .162/.280/.218 slash line in that span and lost playing time as a result. At the same time, he earned his first career All-Star nod thanks to a productive first half, and perhaps a clean slate will get him going again.

Dodgers | Yasmani Grandal to have surgery

Wed, 21 Oct 2015 05:15:49 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal (shoulder) will undergo arthroscopic surgery on the AC joint in his left shoulder Wednesday, Oct. 21, and he's expected to be ready for spring training.

Fantasy Tip: Grandal flashed the kind of power potential that made him a top prospect with a .282-14-36 first half before the injury derailed him. He'll be a high-end catcher owners reach for in next year's drafts.

Dodgers | Yasmani Grandal likely to undergo surgery

Fri, 16 Oct 2015 17:07:17 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal (shoulder) will have a preoperative meeting with a doctor Tuesday, Oct. 20, to determine if surgery on his left shoulder is necessary. If he is required to go under the knife, the procedure will take place Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Grandal was bothered by the injury for much of the second half of the season and his offensive numbers suffered greatly. He hit .282 with 14 home runs in 69 games during the first half and batted just .162 with two home runs in 46 games after the All-Star break.

Dodgers | Yasmani Grandal starting Game 5

Thu, 15 Oct 2015 12:22:44 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal (shoulder) is starting Game 5 of the National League Division Series against New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom Thursday, Oct. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Grandal ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) posted a .162/.280/.218 slash line over 169 plate appearances in the second half and is 1-for-8 in the NLDS. Add injury concern to the second-half collapse, and there is no reason to target Grandal at FantasyScore until he turns it around at the plate.

Dodgers | Yasmani Grandal questionable for Game 5

Wed, 14 Oct 2015 15:30:28 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal (shoulder) is questionable to play Game 5 of the National League Division Series against New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom Thursday, Oct. 15, according to manager Don Mattingly.

Fantasy Tip: View Grandal ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) as an extremely risky FantasyScore play given his health uncertainty. Plus, the backstop is just 1-for-8 in the series, and Grandal posted an underwhelming .498 OPS in the second half of the regular season.

Dodgers | Yasmani Grandal starting at catcher

Sat, 10 Oct 2015 13:53:42 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal will start behind the plate and bat seventh in Game 2 against the New York Mets Saturday, Oct. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Grandal has yet to record a hit and has struck out three times in his eight at-bats this postseason. He's not an advisable play tonight facing Noah Syndergaard.

Dodgers | A.J. Ellis behind the plate in Game 1

Fri, 09 Oct 2015 14:33:50 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers C A.J. Ellis is starting behind the plate and batting seventh in Game 1 of the National League Division Series against New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom Friday, Oct. 9. C Yasmani Grandal is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Ellis ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) serves as Clayton Kershaw's ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) personal catcher, so he should see starts whenever the ace takes the hill. Ellis is a low-end fantasy option, though, and he is best viewed as a source of cap relief for FantasyScore contests. Grandal ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) should see the majority of starts at catcher for the Dodgers, and he has more upside with the stick.

Dodgers | Yasmani Grandal not in lineup Friday

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 17:07:13 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal is not in the starting lineup against San Diego Padres SP Casey Kelly Friday, Oct. 2. C A.J. Ellis will start behind the plate and bat seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Ellis ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is batting just .232 since Sept. 1, and is not a great FantasyScore catching option tonight.

Dodgers | Four lefties out for Dodgers

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 16:07:00 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OFs Joc Pederson, Andre Ethier and Carl Crawford and C Yasmani Grandal are out of the lineup against San Francisco Giants left-handed SP Madison Bumgarner Tuesday, Sept. 29. OF Enrique Hernandez is in center field and hitting leadoff, OF Justin Ruggiano is in left and batting sixth, C A.J. Ellis is catching and hitting seventh and OF Scott Van Slyke is in right field and batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: In a matchup of perhaps the best two left-handed pitchers on the planet, none of the reserves starting for the Dodgers tonight should be attractive on FantsayScore as anything other than desperation contrarian picks.
