Dodgers | Yasmani Grandal dropped down order

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 15:09:25 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal is batting seventh against the San Francisco Giants Wednesday, April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Grandal ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has struggled in his first season with the Dodgers, as he is currently sporting an uninspiring .196 batting average. Still, he has proven to be a streaky hitter in the past, and he has a favorable mound matchup Wednesday against Ryan Vogelsong. Consider Grandal a nice upside play in FantasyScore contests Wednesday.

Dodgers | Zack Greinke, Yasmani Grandal gelling

Mon, 13 Apr 2015 11:30:39 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Zack Greinke and C Yasmani Grandal have worked very well together in both of Greinke's starts in 2015, and Greinke has had nothing but good things to say about Grandal after working with C A.J. Ellis previously in his Dodgers career. "You're paying attention to see what it's going to be like. But, like I said, it's been great. There was a little bit of a rumor, but he hasn't shown anything but positives, not just to me. Every one of our pitchers has been impressed with him," Greinke said. Greinke allowed five hits and no walks while striking out seven to lower his ERA to 0.69 against the Arizona Diamondbacks Sunday, April 12.

Fantasy Tip: Grandal ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) could very well become Greinke's personal catcher at this rate. Although he's hitting just .214 (3-for-14), Grandal isn't a bad buy-low catching option at FantasyScore when he's in the starting lineup.

Dodgers | Yasmani Grandal receives praise

Wed, 08 Apr 2015 10:31:47 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal received plenty of praise from SP Zack Greinke after the two worked together in the loss to the San Diego Padres Tuesday, April 7. Grandal wasn't the most popular catcher among Padres pitchers in 2014, but he came to Los Angeles determined to improve his relationships with the pitching staff. "He's been unbelievable back there," Greinke said. "His catching is better than advertised, and working with me individually, he's been as good as you could expect. I don't think, from what I've seen so far, you could ever have expected anything more."

Fantasy Tip: Grandal ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) comes into the 2015 as somewhat of a fantasy sleeper in traditional leagues. Yes, he'll share time with A.J. Ellis, but he has upside with the stick, and he'll also be an under-the-radar daily option at FantasyScore on days that he's in the lineup.

Dodgers | Platoon likely for Yasmani Grandal

Thu, 19 Feb 2015 13:47:13 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal could platoon behind the plate with C A.J. Ellis based on the opposing starting pitcher, according to general manager Andrew Friedman.

Fantasy Tip: Expect Grandal to take over the majority of starts, but how quickly that will happen is a concern. Grandal has flashed upside, however he is likely only worthy of being drafted in two-catcher formats, at this point. The threat of a platoon is a hindrance to his fantasy value, too.

Dodgers | Yasmani Grandal confident in health

Mon, 02 Feb 2015 14:54:41 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal (knee), who is expected to be the team's main catcher this year, said his batting average was low last year because his surgically repaired right knee wasn't at full strength. His knee hindered him most while hitting from the right side, as he hit .162 right-handed compared to .241 as a lefty, and all 15 of his home runs came from the left side. Grandal said he's confident that his knee is fully healed now, however, and the team is encouraged with his health.

Padres | San Diego agrees to Matt Kemp trade

Thu, 11 Dec 2014 06:19:37 -0800

Updating an ongoing story, Los Angeles Dodgers OF Matt Kemp is the centerpiece of a deal that has been agreed upon to send him to the San Diego Padres. C Tim Federowicz will head to the Padres, while C Yasmani Grandal, SP Joe Wieland and at least one prospect will return to the Dodgers. The Dodgers will send about $31 million to cover part of the remaining $107 million on Kemp's contract. The deal is pending the commissioner's approval Thursday, Dec. 11, according to a high-ranking official with direct knowledge of the talks.
