San Diego Padres 1B Yonder Alonso (wrist, forearm) suffered a right wrist/forearm injury Tuesday, Aug. 12, according to manager Bud Black. Alonso is expected to have to go back on the disabled list. He returned from the DL July 26 from a similar ailment and was hitting .421 (16-for-38) since returning. Alonso will have an MRI exam Wednesday, Aug. 13, after an MRI Tuesday showed a right forearm strain. He said he felt something "pop" while batting Tuesday. C Yasmani Grandal was starting at first base Wednesday, and Black said INFs Tommy Medica and Jacob Goebbert could also see time there.
Fantasy Tip: You can cut Alonso in most mixed leagues at this point. His wrist/forearm issue seems like it could be pretty serious, so his performance might be affected if he's able to return before the end of the season. Grandal probably benefits the most, with regular playing time at either catcher or first base throughout the end of the regular season.

San Diego Padres C Yasmani Grandal (knee) was a late scratch Thursday, July 31, with fluid and pain in the front of his surgically-repaired right knee. He is expected to play tomorrow, after medical tests checked out fine.
Fantasy Tip: Check back for Grandal's status tomorrow, if you're starting him.

San Diego Padres 3B Chase Headley (back, leg) revealed that he has been bothered by back and leg pain for the last month caused by a herniated disc. He is optimistic that he can return to the lineup in a few days but said no concrete timetable exists for treatment.
Fantasy Tip: INFs Alexi Amarista and Jace Peterson will split time between second base and third base until Headley returns to action. Cs Yasmani Grandal and Rene Rivera are emergency options for playing the hot corner. None of these players make appealing fantasy options, with the possible exception of deep NL-only leagues.

San Diego Padres C Yasmani Grandal was in the lineup Saturday, June 14, and manager Bud Black said health-wise that Grandal is where he needs to be. "I think we're past the stamina question," Black said. "Here we are in June...and he's proven to us that the endurance, being able to catch...no worries."

San Diego Padres manager Bud Black said Wednesday, April 16, that the weakest backup position is third base, where INF Alexi Amarista started in place of the injured 3B Chase Headley (biceps). INF Ryan Jackson (wrist) is unavailable at Triple-A El Paso, so the team might look to 1B-OF Yonder Alonso or C Yasmani Grandal to play some third base if Headley is forced out for an extended period.

San Diego Padres C Yasmani Grandal (knee) was able to return for the team's season opener after an offseason of intense rehab following surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament t in his right knee last season. Grandal did physical therapy in three different states in the offseason and even did his workouts while on his honeymoon in Bora Bora. He caught all nine innings Tuesday, April 1, but isn't to the point where he can catch in back-to-back games.

San Diego Padres C Yasmani Grandal (knee) has progressed to the point where he has been able to catch nine innings in spring games, and he could make the roster as the second catcher to C Nick Hundley. However, the team likes C Rene Rivera, who is out of minor league options and would likely be scooped up if they try to pass him through waivers.
Fantasy Tip: The Friars probably won't rush Grandal back, since he's ahead of schedule in his rehab from knee surgery. He could be a nice second catching option for those in two-catcher leagues in the second half of the season, though.
