Rangers | Delino DeShields leading off

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 16:05:37 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Delino DeShields Jr. is starting in left field and is hitting leadoff against Kansas City Royals SP Danny Duffy Friday, July 22. 1B Mitch Moreland is on the bench against a lefty, and 2B Jurickson Profar is serving as the designated hitter and batting second.

Fantasy Tip: DeShields was demoted earlier this year after he disappointed with a .217/.294/.302 line in 106 at-bats. He'll likely see limited playing time as outfield depth with Shin-Soo Choo on the DL, but he can be attractive those in AL-only leagues for his speed. Profar should see regular playing time now between first base, DH and the outfield, and his overall .304/.351/.435 line should play in all leagues. His multiposition eligibility also makes him more attractive.

Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo back to DL

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 15:38:12 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo (back) was placed on the disabled list with lower back inflammation Wednesday, July 20. He received an injection Wednesday and could be back in 15 days. OF Delino DeShields Jr. and 2B Hanser Alberto were recalled from the minors in corresponding moves.

Fantasy Tip: Choo has hit well (.260-7-17) when he's been on the field this year, but the problem is he can't stay out of the trainer's room and has only played 33 games in 2016. If you're out of roster space in mixed leagues, cutting Choo would be advised. DeShields and Alberto are deep AL-only options only, as they'll likely be used as depth. Jurickson Profar, who has played excellent in limited duty, should now become an everyday player and should be owned universally.

Rangers | Delino DeShields sent to Round Rock

Fri, 13 May 2016 14:41:20 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Delino DeShields Jr. was optioned to Class AAA Round Rock Friday, May 13.

Fantasy Tip: DeShields had a .217/.294/.302 slash line, and with Nomar Mazara's emergence, DeShields was expendable. Mazara is the real winner here, as he appears to be ready for full-time work at the highest level, and he is already a midrange outfielder. DeShields isn't a stash candidate in the majority of leagues.

Rangers | Nomar Mazara hitting third

Wed, 11 May 2016 08:32:24 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Nomar Mazara is hitting third Wednesday, May 11, and OF Delino DeShields Jr. is out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Mazara has a .301-4-11 line on the season but has hit .231 the last week. He took Mat Latos deep the last time the two faced one another, and Mazara is a midrange DFS option with upside.

Rangers | Delino DeShields back in leadoff spot

Tue, 10 May 2016 13:35:33 -0700

Texas Rangers 2B Delino DeShields Jr. is back in the leadoff spot against Chicago White Sox SP Carlos Rodon Tuesday, May 10. 2B Rougned Odor moves down one spot to the two-hole.

Fantasy Tip: DeShields has been a huge disappointment for the Rangers, hitting just .216 with two home runs and four stolen bases in 29 games. If doesn't pick it up, he could lose playing time whenever Josh Hamilton (knee) returns from injury. A move to the top of the lineup increases his fantasy value, at least for the day. But because of his lack of production, he has to be considered a contrarian play in daily formats.

Rangers | Drew Stubbs signed

Sat, 07 May 2016 10:50:22 -0700

The Texas Rangers have signed free-agent OF Drew Stubbs (Braves) to a major-league contract. He is expected to serve as a reserve outfielder even though OF Delino DeShields Jr. has struggled at the plate this season. In corresponding moves, P Alex Claudio was optioned to Class AAA Round Rock and OF Josh Hamilton (knee) was moved from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain how much playing time Stubbs will receive but he is not worth rostering outside of AL-only fantasy leagues. The 31-year-old hit .237 with a home run and three RBI in 38 at-bats for Atlanta earlier this year.

Rangers | Delino DeShields out again

Thu, 05 May 2016 12:56:58 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Delino DeShields Jr. is not in the starting lineup again Thursday, May 5. OF Ryan Rua is starting in left field again and is hitting seventh against Toronto Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ.

Fantasy Tip: DeShields, hitting .239 with three stolen bases, continues to see his role diminish as he struggles at the plate. He had recently been banished to the bottom of the order, too, where his stolen base prowess won't blossom. Rua has a very limited ceiling and is strictly a deep sleeper in daily setups if you're looking to save some cash.

Rangers | Delino DeShields takes a seat

Wed, 04 May 2016 14:31:11 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Delino DeShields Jr. is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 4. OF Ryan Rua draws into the lineup in left field and is hitting eighth against Toronto Blue Jays SP Aaron Sanchez.

Fantasy Tip: DeShields' fantasy allure is dropping quickly, as he's hitting just .239/.316/.307 with one home run and three stolen bases in 88 at-bats. He's also been relegated to the bottom of the order lately, which limits his fantasy upside. DeShields' is mainly an asset for his speed, but hitting low in the order hurts his ability to do so. Rua is a low-end outfield option in daily games tonight.

Rangers | Delino DeShields sitting vs. Angels

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 13:36:23 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Delino DeShields Jr. is not in the starting lineup Friday, April 29. OF Ryan Rua draws into the lineup and is batting eighth, and 2B Rougned Odor is leading off against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago Friday.

Fantasy Tip: DeShields owns a .219/.305/.301 slash line to start the season, and he has been hitting ninth more than first of late. His fantasy value is dwindling. Odor receives a modest fantasy boost in the run and stolen base columns setting the table for the Rangers, but it hurts his RBI potential. Rua is a potential flier in daily contests because of his .292/.320/.458 career slash line against southpaws, but you'll still want to keep expectations in check.

Rangers | Delino DeShields back in leadoff spot

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 13:20:12 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Delino DeShields Jr. is batting first against New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia Wednesday, April 27. Rangers 2B Rougned Odor is batting sixth Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Odor has been leading off the past three games, but facing a lefty, DeShields is setting the table again Wednesday. DeShields grabs a huge fantasy boost batting atop the lineup, whereas Odor's value doesn't significantly change outside of likely trading a few opportunities to score runs for RBI chances. Both are strong daily options against Sabathia Wednesday, too.
