Mets | Matt Harvey will make next start

Wed, 25 May 2016 08:07:54 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey will not have his next start skipped, and he's pegged to start Monday, May 30, against the Chicago White Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Harvey is 3-7 with a 6.08 ERA and a 1.69 WHIP. He's borderline unusable right now except in NL-only leagues.

Mets | Matt Harvey yields five runs again

Tue, 24 May 2016 20:33:58 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey once again had an off outing Tuesday, May 24, versus the Washington Nationals. He went five innings, giving up five runs on eight hits, including three home runs. He also walked two and struck out only one.

Fantasy Tip: If there was a positive to take away from this outing, it's that Harvey was actually doing fine in the beginning, before falling victim to the long ball in his last two innings, when the Nats supplied their three dingers off the right-hander. Other than that, his struggles continued, and his recent drop in strikeouts has to be considered alarming. Even so, he's way too talented to simply drop and owners are pretty much forced to ride this out until he can get into a groove again. He'll figure it out.

Mets | Matt Harvey not backing down

Tue, 24 May 2016 09:14:55 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey was given the option of skipping a rematch with the Washington Nationals this week, but he turned that down. Harvey will start against the Nationals Tuesday, May 24, despite allowing a career-high nine runs in a career-low 2 2/3 innings last Thursday. "I'm not a quitter. I'm not going to just quit and put the ball down. It's a fight. It was good for me to do that," Harvey said.

Fantasy Tip: Harvey's career high in innings last year on the way to a World Series run could be the main culprit for his bad start in 2016. He's sporting a 5.77 ERA heading into Tuesday to go along with a 1.65 WHIP. You'd be wise to hold him out today to see if he can rebound before trusting him in your lineups moving forward.

Mets | Matt Harvey looks good in sim game

Sat, 21 May 2016 20:41:25 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey threw a simulated game Saturday, May 21, and manager Terry Collins said his velocity, arm slot and movement all looked good.

Fantasy Tip: Until Harvey starts to show some positive results when it counts, he is going to be a risky starting option in all formats.

Mets | Matt Harvey making next start vs. Nats

Fri, 20 May 2016 13:13:14 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey will make his next start against the Washington Nationals, the organization announced Friday, May 20. He might be pushed back a day, though.

Fantasy Tip: The velocity drop from Harvey is concerning, and he should be viewed as a risky fantasy start in all formats until he turns it around on the bump. It's too early to completely rule out a bounce-back run, though. He is inducing a career-best 23.6 soft-hit percentage, yet he has a allowed a .385 BABIP. There are some issues here to work out, but there is also positive regression ahead. It isn't out of the question to pursue him as a buy-low candidate. Just know, he might not be a set-and-forget lock in your starting lineup.

Mets | Matt Harvey carrying extra weight?

Fri, 20 May 2016 11:51:47 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey, who has a 5.77 ERA through nine starts, looks to be carrying extra weight this season, according to the New York Post's Mike Vaccaro and ESPN's Buster Olney. Olney writes: Harvey is in good shape, but he looks like he has put on pounds that don't help him. For some pitchers, extra weight doesn't seem to matter, like CC Sabathia, or Harvey's teammate Bartolo Colon. But perhaps Harvey would be better served by veering onto the same path of preparation as Kershaw, Arrieta and Scherzer -- a place that probably isn't as far removed as it might have seemed last night, as he was jeered off the mound.

Fantasy Tip: Harvey has no answers right now, and the Mets are considering skipping his next start. A decline in velocity this year may be the sign that he was overworked coming off Tommy John surgery last year, and skipper Terry Collins has even hinted at such. A urinary-tract infection in spring training could've also set him back. The bottom line is that Harvey stinks right now and may take some time to work out the kinks. While he does, you should stay away from him unless the matchup is too good to be true.

Mets | Matt Harvey's secondary pitches tanking

Fri, 20 May 2016 11:05:05 -0700

Updating earlier reports, New York Mets SP Matt Harvey is struggling with his secondary pitches as well as his fastball. The batting average on his slider before this season was .168, and it's .365 this year. The average on his curveball has gone from .196 to .250. The average on his changeup has gone from .221 to .333. His fastball is being hit to a tune of .336, up from .231.

Fantasy Tip: It's an oddity to see an elite pitcher struggle with everything. It makes you wonder if he has been tipping his pitches. Harvey is 3-6 with a 5.77 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP. Three starts ago, he struck out 10 Padres and allowed two runs in six innings. So there is reason to believe it's just a rut he's in. Bench him for now if you can, and wait for him to turn it around.

Mets | Matt Harvey lacking velocity

Fri, 20 May 2016 10:12:00 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey's fastball is averaging 94 mph in 2016, after he averaged 96 mph in 2015. Opponents are hitting .435 on fastballs 94 mph or slower and .208 against fastballs higher than 94 mph.

Fantasy Tip: Harvey is 3-6 with a 5.77 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP. Three starts ago, he struck out 10 Padres and allowed two runs in six innings. There are no indications that he's injured. Pitchers periodically go through dead-arm phases where they can't bring the velocity consistently. That could be what Harvey is going through. Bench him for now if you can, and wait for him to turn it around.

Mets | Matt Harvey not a DL candidate

Fri, 20 May 2016 09:35:20 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey isn't being considered for the disabled list, and there's still a chance he makes his next start.

Fantasy Tip: Harvey is 3-6 with a 5.77 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP. He's fighting it right now, but three starts ago, he struck out 10 Padres and allowed two runs in six innings. It's just a matter of time for him to figure it out. If you have the luxury, bench him until signs of optimism emerge. He's a decent buy-low candidate as well.

Mets | Matt Harvey could skip starts

Thu, 19 May 2016 21:07:54 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey could be temporarily pulled from the rotation, manager Terry Collins said Thursday, May 19. Collins said that Harvey's struggles could stem from his workload last season, but he also said that Harvey hasn't seemed the same since dealing with a urinary-tract infection in spring training and could undergo medical testing.

Fantasy Tip: It's officially time to hit the panic button with Harvey, but all fantasy owners can do is stash him and hope he regroups and figures things out.
