Mets | Matt Harvey's first start scheduled

Thu, 26 Feb 2015 11:17:21 -0800

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey (elbow) will see his first spring start March 6 after returning from Tommy John surgery, and he'll face the Detroit Tigers in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Harvey will face batters for the first time this spring Friday, Feb. 27, although the hitters won't be swinging at pitches.

Fantasy Tip: Harvey's reduced price in this year's drafts may very well be worth it. However, you may want to temper your expectations, since starters often face a period of adjustment when they return from TJS surgery, meaning he could be in for a slow start. A middle-rounds price is hard to pass up for this recovering superstar.

Mets | Matt Harvey to begin season on time

Sat, 21 Feb 2015 14:25:26 -0800

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey (elbow) will begin the season in the starting rotation, and he'll make a start within the team's first five games, according to manager Terry Collins.

Fantasy Tip: Harvey is a hot name in fantasy circles, but it's imperative to remember that pitchers often struggle with control once they return from Tommy John surgery. He's likely to be overdrafted in a lot of traditional leagues, but he's a high-end SP2 with ace talent.

Mets | Matt Harvey to face batters

Sat, 21 Feb 2015 07:29:35 -0800

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey (elbow) is scheduled face to batters in a week for the first time since he underwent Tommy John surgery, according to a source. He is scheduled to throw two bullpen sessions with one occurring Sunday, Feb. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Harvey looks to have a good chance to be ready for the season, but he should still be considered an injury risk since he is coming off a major surgery. Owners can consider selecting Harvey in the middle rounds of drafts.

Mets | Matt Harvey won't have ultra-restricting cap

Fri, 20 Feb 2015 11:10:44 -0800

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey (elbow) won't have an ultra-restrictive innings cap this year after returning from Tommy John surgery, according to general manager Sandy Alderson. Alderson said Harvey won't have "extra special precautions" during spring training either. Harvey is already 16 months removed from the surgery. The Mets don't want to publicly disclose an innings cap and have it become a headline all year. Alderson also said Harvey would pitch in the playoffs if the team makes it. New York could delay his start to the season, have him do an expanded All-Star break and skip some starts to preserve his innings this year.

Fantasy Tip: Harvey's injury discount in this year's drafts may be well worth it, especially if he's allowed to exceed 170 innings. However, you must realize that he could be primed for a slow start after returning from TJS. Still, he's certainly worth the risk in the middle rounds because of his upside.

Mets | Matt Harvey arrives early

Mon, 09 Feb 2015 10:38:11 -0800

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey (elbow) arrived to spring training early Monday, Feb. 9. He's recovering from Tommy John surgery, and he stretched, fielded balls and ran with other pitchers. Harvey feels fully healthy after an offseason of working out. He's been throwing fastballs and curveballs in bullpen sessions. "Just the way the ball's coming out. I'm pretty on-point with my accuracy right now, which is surprising. Obviously hearing from guys (that came back from Tommy John surgery), that was kind of the last thing that sometimes comes. I couldn't be happier with the way things feel, the way things are coming out," Harvey said. He expects to throw a bullpen in the next few days but isn't sure when he'll face hitters.

Mets | Matt Harvey OK with plans to limit innings

Wed, 03 Dec 2014 11:17:54 -0800
