Mets | Matt Harvey cleared for mound work

Wed, 30 Jul 2014 13:35:25 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey (elbow) has been cleared to get back on a mound for the first time next week after having Tommy John surgery in October of last year. Harvey will not pitch in the majors this season, though, but he could pitch briefly in the instructional league in late September or early October.

Fantasy Tip: It's great news for Harvey, but it really means nothing to fantasy owners, since he won't be pitching at all in meaningful games in 2014. Continue to hold onto him in keeper and dynasty leagues.

Mets | Matt Harvey probably limited in 2015

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 13:57:53 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey (elbow) probably will be on an innings limit when he returns in 2015. He may only log 150 to 160 frames, which could equal 20 to 22 starts.

Fantasy Tip: He's not going to appear in the majors this year. Most pitchers' first season after Tommy John surgery is a rough go, so if many are pegging Harvey for his peak pre-injury form, it could be a costly draft-day mistake. If he slips far into the middle mixed rounds, his profit potential will obviously go up. His minors performance this year, if he has one, and his form over the winter and spring will be a hot topic of discussion for next year's fantasy drafts.

Mets | Matt Harvey frustrated

Mon, 14 Jul 2014 12:32:29 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey (elbow) is frustrated he is not moving to the next level of his rehabilitation from Tommy John surgery. Harvey was originally scheduled to throw off a mound in June. Harvey said he feels good, and he is happy with his results, but he understands he does not make decisions about his timetable.

Fantasy Tip: Harvey is a stash candidate in all keeper/dynasty formats, especially if you're already retooling for next season.

Mets | Matt Harvey not throwing off mound

Thu, 19 Jun 2014 16:12:07 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey (elbow) has been throwing on flat ground, but the team has not given him a date for when he will start throwing off a mound. He was expected to start throwing off a mound last week, but the front office decided to push that activity back. General manager Sandy Alderson recently said Harvey will not pitch in a game until Sept. 22 at the earliest and that pitching in the fall instructional league is more preferable.

Fantasy Tip: Owners that were holding onto Harvey this season in hopes he would be able to pitch at some point can drop him since it appears he will miss the season. Harvey should only be owned in keeper leagues.

Mets | Matt Harvey update

Tue, 10 Jun 2014 15:32:16 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets SP Matt Harvey (elbow) will not pitch in the majors within 11 months of his Tommy John surgery, which occurred Oct. 22 of last year. That means he would only have the final six games of the regular season to make a start this year before the team's season ends Sept. 28. General manager Sandy Alderson said the Mets could allow Harvey to pitch in the instructional league instead. New York is unlikely to have him pitch in minor league games, either, unless the team is in postseason contention.

"I don't know why we would rush him for any other reason," manager Terry Collins said. "... I'd love him to pitch this year, because I think it means we're in the hunt. But I don't find it drastically important, because the one thing we do not want to have is some type of major relapse because we came too fast and this guy sits out 2015. That ain't happening."

Fantasy Tip: Those holding onto Harvey this year in hopes that he'd make some sort of impact down the stretch can officially move on. Harvey should only be on rosters in non-redraft leagues.

Mets | Matt Harvey unlikely to pitch this year

Tue, 10 Jun 2014 13:09:54 -0700

New York Mets manager Terry Collins doesn't envision SP Matt Harvey (elbow) pitching this year if the team is not in playoff contention come September.

Fantasy Tip: Even if the Mets are hanging around the playoff picture at that point, it might be doubtful that Harvey will make a handful of starts in the majors. The Mets will continue to be ultra-cautious with him.

Mets | Matt Harvey being pushed back

Fri, 06 Jun 2014 14:07:22 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey (elbow) will be pushed back after originally being scheduled to throw off a mound for the first time Monday, June 9.

Fantasy Tip: Harvey hasn't had any sort of setback, but it's just another reminder that the Mets are proceeding with the utmost caution. Don't expect Harvey to pitch in the big leagues this year.

Mets | Matt Harvey slowed

Fri, 06 Jun 2014 07:09:06 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey (elbow) will not throw Tuesday, June 10, but has not suffered a setback. The team consulted with Dr. James Andrews and has decided to ease his rehab back a little bit.

Fantasy Tip: It just sounds like they're being cautious, which is the wise thing to do.

Mets | Matt Harvey set to throw off mound

Mon, 02 Jun 2014 14:11:35 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey (elbow) is slated to throw off a mound for the first time since having Tommy John surgery Monday, June 9. He's been throwing on flat ground at 150 feet in Florida. Harvey said earlier that he wants to make five to seven major league starts this year, although the team plans to be more cautious with him.

Fantasy Tip: Harvey's progreess is good to see, but there remains virtually little chance that he'll actually make any starts at the major league level this season.
