St. Louis Cardinals SP Carlos Matias tossed six shutout innings with six strikeouts in the Dominican Summer League Wednesday, June 16, according to Baseball America's Ben Badler. He now has a 0.56 ERA, 21 strikeouts and three walks in 16 innings.

The St. Louis Cardinals agreed with Dominican Republic P Carlos Matias, 19, on a deal that includes a $1.5 million bonus, pending the outcome of an investigation into his paperwork, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Derrick Goold reports. According to Baseball America, he routinely hits 97 to 99 mph with movement on his fastball.
