Orioles | Manny Machado playing shortstop Tuesday

Tue, 03 May 2016 11:58:39 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 3B Manny Machado moves over to shortstop to face New York Yankees SP Luis Severino Tuesday, May 3. 2B Ryan Flaherty is starting at third base and is batting ninth in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: With J.J. Hardy (fractured foot) on the DL, expect this setup to be the norm for a while. Flaherty is only a depth option in AL-only leagues. The biggest thing to note is that Machado should now gain shortstop eligibility this year and for the 2017 season. He's already one of the top third baseman in the league, and this could vault him to a top-three fantasy pick next year.

Orioles | J.J. Hardy out 6-8 weeks

Mon, 02 May 2016 11:28:42 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (foot) was diagnosed with a hairline fracture on his left foot, and he's expected to miss six to eight weeks. Hardy will land on the disabled list. He was hitting .244/.291/.410 with seven doubles, two home runs and eight RBI in 22 games. 2B Ryan Flaherty is expected to be called up from Class AAA Norfolk to replace Hardy on roster. 3B Manny Machado can slide over to shortstop, with Flaherty seeing the bulk of starts at third base.

Fantasy Tip: You can find healthy and possibly more productive shortstop options to replace Hardy in most mixed leagues. Chris Davis and Pedro Alvarez could also slide to third base, but moving Machado over likely makes the most sense. That'll likely give Machado shortstop eligibility this year and next, which could vault him to a top-three pick in 2017 drafts. Flaherty could be useful for depth in AL-only leagues if he sees enough playing time.

Orioles | J.J. Hardy departs with foot injury

Sun, 01 May 2016 13:01:32 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (foot) left the game on Sunday, May 1, against the Chicago White Sox after fouling a ball off his left foot. 3B Pedro Alvarez replaced him in the batting order, while 3B/SS Manny Machado slid over from third to play shortstop.

Fantasy Tip: The Orioles figure to make some kind of announcement about the seriousness of this injury in the next few hours. Baltimore doesn't lose much offensively as a result of the injury, although its defense takes a big hit. Hardy is a fringe fantasy option and shouldn't be out too long, however, so continue to use him as you normally would.

Orioles | Manny Machado leading off

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 13:08:52 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 3B Manny Machado is leading off Saturday, April 30, with OF Joey Rickard out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Machado is a daily consideration as he's a top-10 player in fantasy baseball. Mat Latos has been good, but that shouldn't deter you from using him.

Orioles | Manny Machado drives in five Thursday

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 19:26:28 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 3B Manny Machado went 2-for-4 with a double, home run, five RBI and three runs scored against the Chicago White Sox Thursday, April 28.

Fantasy Tip: Machado's home run was his seventh of the season and the second grand slam of his career. He is batting .333 through his first 87 at-bats and should be viewed as a high-end option at the hot corner in all fantasy formats.

Orioles | Manny Machado mired in a slump

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 22:44:40 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 3B Manny Machado was hitless in four at-bats Wednesday, April 27, against the Tampa Bay Rays, and he has now failed to record a hit over his past 17 at-bats.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners should stick with Machado despite the hitless skid, as he is just too talented to not hit for very much longer.

Orioles | Manny Machado to play in WBC

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 10:27:40 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 3B Manny Machado will play for the Dominican Republic in the 2017 World Baseball Classic.

Fantasy Tip: Machado is off to a blazing start this year and has already proven he's one of the best all-around young third basemen in the game. He'll most likely be a surefire first-round fantasy pick in 2017, but extra games in a competitive environment before the season starts may have some a little wary.

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 14:51:33 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 3B Manny Machado went hitless in four at-bats Sunday, April 24, and his hitting streak stopped at 16 games.

Fantasy Tip: Machado has been lights out this season, as evidenced by his hitting streak. He should be in your fantasy lineup pretty much at all times, barring injuries.

Orioles | Matt Wieters, J.J. Hardy out

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 11:01:33 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters and SS J.J. Hardy are not in the starting lineup against Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura Sunday, April 24. 3B Manny Machado will start at shortstop, while 2B Ryan Flaherty will start at third base and is batting ninth. C Caleb Joseph will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph is hitting .250 over his last seven days and could be a cheaper option for owners in two-catcher leagues. Flaherty is hitting only .143 this season and probably should be avoided by owners.

Orioles | Manny Machado's hit streak at 15

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 23:49:05 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 3B Manny Machado extended his hitting streak to 15 games Friday, April 22, against the Texas Rangers. His streak is tied for the second-longest in club history to start a season. The record is 17 games, set by former manager Davey Johnson.

Fantasy Tip: Machado has fired out of the box and delighted his fantasy owners with timely hitting and solid run-producing numbers during the early going.
