Athletics | Drew Pomeranz receives cortisone shot

Thu, 21 May 2015 14:51:44 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Drew Pomeranz (shoulder) received a cortisone shot for his left acromioclavicular joint, and he will resume throwing once it takes effect.

Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz is worth stashing in cavernous mixed and AL-only formats. Expect a clearer timeline for his return to be announced soon. Until then, continue to check back for updates on his progress. It isn't out of the question to cut bait for a player with more upside given the nature of Pomeranz's injury, though.

Athletics | Drew Pomeranz to DL

Wed, 20 May 2015 07:52:33 -0700

Updating a previous report, Oakland Athletics SP Drew Pomeranz (shoulder) was been placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, May 20, with a sprained acromioclavicular joint. The move is retroactive to May 19. In a corresponding move, the Athletics recalled SP Arnold Leon from Class AAA Nashville.

Fantasy Tip: Owners in deep leagues or AL-only formats should consider stashing Pomeranz until more is known about his prognosis. Leon doesn't figure to offer any fantasy value.

Athletics | Drew Pomeranz possibility for DL

Tue, 19 May 2015 15:23:24 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Drew Pomeranz (shoulder) is headed back to Northern California to get checked out Tuesday, May 19. Pomeranz could land on the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz's ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) strikeout rate has been down nearly a batter and a half from last season, so it's possible there's a lingering issue that reared it's head during Monday's shortened outing. More should be known soon.

Athletics | Drew Pomeranz has normal soreness

Tue, 19 May 2015 14:01:42 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Drew Pomeranz (shoulder) played catch and had no issues with the AC joint in his left shoulder Tuesday, May 19. He said he dealt with "normal soreness."

Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) left his start early last night with shoulder issues, and he allowed one earned run in 4 1/3 innings while walking five. It looks like he may not need to miss his next start, but stay tuned on his progress. As a result of his injury, it may be wise to avoid him in his next start on FantasyScore.

Athletics | Drew Pomeranz has shoulder issue

Mon, 18 May 2015 20:09:42 -0700

Updating a previous report, Oakland Athletics SP Drew Pomeranz (shoulder) left the game early Monday, May 18, because of left shoulder tightness.

Fantasy Tip: The severity of Pomeranz's ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) injury is not known at this point, so owners should monitor the situation. He has only pitched more than five innings in three of his seven starts this season. Owners on FantasyScore may want to avoid Pomeranz until he is able to post some solid outings.

Oakland Athletics SP Drew Pomeranz (undisclosed) left the game Monday, May 18, against the Houston Astros due to an unspecified injury.

Athletics | Drew Pomeranz struggles again

Thu, 07 May 2015 13:18:37 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Drew Pomeranz allowed six runs -- four earned -- on three hits and five walks over 4 1/3 innings during his third loss of the season to the Minnesota Twins Thursday, May 7.

Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has now allowed at least three earned runs in each of his last five starts, and he hasn't recorded a win or pitched into the sixth inning in any of those games. He is a fringe mixed league option at this point, and FanatsyScore owners cannot start him with any confidence, either.

Athletics | Drew Pomeranz fans six in first start

Sat, 11 Apr 2015 06:34:42 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Drew Pomeranz struck out six batters through seven-scoreless innings to record his first win of the season over the Seattle Mariners Friday, April 10. He allowed just two hits.

Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has been brought along slowly since being selected as the fifth overall selection in the 2010 amateur draft. However, with a rotation spot secured and his 7.8 K/9 mark as a starter, there is upside in the majority of leagues. Pomeranz should be viewed as a solid arms in the back of your virtual rotation, and he makes a great daily play in favorable matchups. O.co Coliseum is a pitcher-friendly home ballpark, too.

Athletics | Drew Pomeranz back to old mechanics

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 11:15:55 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Drew Pomeranz said he went back to his old mechanics from last year before tossing six scoreless innings Monday, March 30. Pomeranz had tweaked his mechanics early this spring in order to master a changeup. He is lined up to be the team's fifth starter.

Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) had a solid season in 2014, going 5-4 with a 2.35 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 64 strikeouts in 69 innings. He's an under-the-radar starting option for owners in deep mixed leagues, and he should make for a nice matchup play at FantasyScore throughout the year.

Athletics | Drew Pomeranz nursing tight hip

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 22:13:34 -0700

Oakland Athletics P Drew Pomeranz (hip) was battling right hip tightness in his Cactus League spring outing Tuesday, March 24. He said it has happened before, but he thinks this is a one-time thing.

Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz remains in a fight for one of the two rotation jobs, but an injury at this juncture of spring training would be damaging. As it stands, if he can win a rotation job he would only be worth a look in AL-only fantasy leagues when rounding out a rotation.
