Athletics | Drew Pomeranz records save

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 18:22:34 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Drew Pomeranz earned his second save of the season against the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday, Aug. 19. He tossed one scoreless inning of work.

Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz may be worth a speculative add for owners in AL-only seasonal leagues searching for saves, although Edward Mujica is expected to receive most of the save opportunities for the A's.

Athletics | Aaron Brooks to start Saturday

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 17:18:17 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Aaron Brooks will start Saturday, Aug. 1, against the Cleveland Indians. P Drew Pomeranz will remain in the bullpen.

Fantasy Tip: Brooks was a key piece of the Ben Zobrist trade from Tuesday. He had appeared in just two games and pitched 4 1/3 innings this season for the Kansas City Royals. Brooks should be allowed to make a couple of starts before FantasyScore owners take the chance.

Athletics | Tyler Clippard likely on the move

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 05:23:25 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Tyler Clippard is likely the next A's player to be traded before the deadline. RP Drew Pomeranz is a candidate to become the closer if Clippard is dealt.

Fantasy Tip: Pick up Pomeranz in anticipation of Clippard's deal. Clippard may lose most of his fantasy value because he'll probably land on a team as a setup man.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt unhappy with trade

Thu, 23 Jul 2015 16:56:11 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt voiced his displeasure at the trading of SP Scott Kazmir (Astros) prior to the game Thursday, July 23, against the Toronto Blue Jays. Vogt said there was no opportunity for pregame prep work with Thursday's emergency starter SP Drew Pomeranz. "None. It's an ambush. Our whole pitching staff got ambushed," said Vogt.

Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz last 1 2/3 innings, and he gave up two hits, two runs and one walk while striking out four. Pomeranz has looked good at times as a starter this year, but he could've used more time to prepare. He'll be a risky, high-upside option on FantasyScore for as long as he's in the rotation.

Athletics | Drew Pomeranz starting Thursday

Thu, 23 Jul 2015 10:46:28 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Drew Pomeranz will start Thursday, July 23, against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz is making the start for Scott Kazmir, who was dealt to Houston earlier today. Pomeranz has pitched out of the bullpen of late and probably isn't going to be stretched out enough to go deep into the game. The Blue Jays' offense is also no joke. Avoid him on FantasyScore.

Athletics | Drew Pomeranz earns win

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 20:10:34 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Drew Pomeranz threw two scoreless and hitless innings and earned his third win of the season during the Athletics' 4-3 victory over the New York Yankees Tuesday, July 7.

Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz is pitching in high-leverage situations with success, as he has a 1.32 ERA with a 25 K%, while opposing hitters are sporting a measly .170 batting average and .196 slugging percentage against him. He could chip in the odd save and win while providing a solid strikeout-per-inning mark and plus-ratios. In deep seasonal leagues, there is a lot of value in that.

Athletics | Drew Pomeranz going to bullpen

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 12:06:53 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Drew Pomeranz (shoulder) will head to the bullpen when he comes off the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) should be stashed away in deeper leagues for now. The emergence of Kendall Graveman ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) could be temporary, so there could be a chance Pomeranz regains his spot down on the road. For now, Pomeranz loses his daily-league fantasy value.

Athletics | Drew Pomeranz close to activation

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 13:24:48 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Drew Pomeranz (shoulder) is likely to be activated from the disabled list Wednesday, June 3, and he's expected to pitch out of the bullpen for now.

Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has no value to those in shallow mixed leagues if he's not in the starting rotation. However, he's worth stashing in deep mixed and AL-only leagues, since there's probably a good chance he'll eventually return to the rotation when a spot opens up.

Athletics | Drew Pomeranz feels great

Fri, 29 May 2015 16:01:07 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Drew Pomeranz (shoulder) is feeling great and isn't experiencing any issues with his left shoulder. He's expected to go on a rehab assignment in the near future.

Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) as a 4.40 ERA and 6.7 K/9 in 43 innings over eight starts this year. Don't feel the need to hang onto him while he's rehabbing in shallow mixed formats. Upon his return, a healthy Pomeranz can be a cheap matchup play on FantasyScore.

Athletics | A.J. Griffin, Drew Pomeranz progressing

Wed, 27 May 2015 10:55:06 -0700

Oakland Athletics SPs A.J. Griffin (shoulder, elbow) and Drew Pomeranz (shoulder) are both progressing in their rehab. Griffin will throw a simulated game Thursday, May 28, while Pomeranz will throw off a mound Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin could return to the A's rotation sometime next month. Stash him now in all formats if you're in need of rotation help for the second half of the season. Pomeranz ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) won't be rushed back after sporting a 4.40 ERA in eight starts this year. There's no reason to hold onto Pomeranz in shallow mixed leagues at this time.
