Panthers | Team Notes

Thu, 15 Feb 2001 11:57:58 -0800

The Charlotte Observer reports sources tell them the Carolina Panthers are going to unload CB Eric Davis to save some salary cap dollars. The Panthers have not announced the move, but Davis met with coach George Seifert earlier this week and was told of the team's intention to release him. Due to league rules he can't be released until February 22. By waiving Davis, the Panthers will clear $4.95 million in salary cap room. They will owe him $1.367 million, the prorated amount of his signing bonus. Jimmy Hitchcock is expected to take over for Davis at CB. Deveron Harper appears to be the leading candidate to play nickel back. OL James Dexter and Bryan Stoltenberg are other candidates to be cut.
