Sun, 19 May 2013 23:41:56 -0700 Houston Astros SS Ronny Cedeno (sinus) was held out of action Sunday, May 19, due to sinus problems and a stomach virus. SS Marwin Gonzalez started in place of Cedeno.
Tue, 14 May 2013 09:17:54 -0700 Houston Astros 2B Jose Altuve (jaw) said he fully intended to play Tuesday, May 14, after suffering a subluxed jaw Monday, May 13. He'll have to miss at least the next two days, though, after being placed on the bereavement list. Fantasy Tip: Altuve could miss up to seven days on the bereavement list, and it's unknown how long he'll be away from the team. The good news is that his jaw wasn't seriously injured. Marwin Gonzalez and Ronny Cedeno are expected to be the starting middle infield tandem with Altuve out.
Wed, 10 Apr 2013 16:46:15 -0700 Houston Astros manager Bo Porter said SS Marwin Gonzalez has earned the right to receive more starts. Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez is competing with Ronny Cedeno for time at shortstop, but Gonzalez clearly has more upside. Gonzalez won't wow with the stick, but with more playing time, he'll at least be worth considering in deep NL leagues if you're in need of a warm middle-infield body.
Tue, 02 Apr 2013 21:33:06 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish was one out from a perfect game Tuesday, April 2, against the Houston Astros, but SS Marwin Gonzalez broke up his bid for history with a clean single through the pitcher's leg with two outs in the ninth inning. Darvish is the first pitcher to lose a perfect game with two outs in the ninth since former Detroit Tigers P Armando Galarraga on June 2, 2010. He finished with 14 strikeouts, matching a Minute Maid Park record. Darvish was removed by manager Ron Washington after 8 2/3 innings and 111 pitches. He has yet to throw a complete game in the majors.
Fri, 08 Mar 2013 21:29:03 -0800 Houston Astros SS Marwin Gonzalez and SS Tyler Greene are each getting a shot to show they can be the starting shortstop in spring training. "I said this to Tyler and Marwin, 'You guys are going to tell us who the starter is going to be,'" manager Bo Porter said Friday, March 8. "It cannot be something judged day in and day out. It's a process, and we're going to allow it to take place throughout the course of spring training, and when we get to the end of spring training, we'll have enough data and enough information to make a really good decision who the starter should be."
Wed, 13 Feb 2013 06:45:27 -0800 Houston Astros manager Bo Porter is eyeing INFs Tyler Greene or Marwin Gonzalez as the leadoff hitter, with 2B Jose Altuve hitting second.
Wed, 06 Feb 2013 11:24:57 -0800 Houston Astros SS Tyler Greene will battle with SS Marwin Gonzalez in spring training for the starting shortstop job after the team traded SS Jed Lowrie to the Oakland Athletics. Barring another transaction, they will be spelled by INF Jake Elmore, who has played in only 30 career games, at the position. "Whenever opportunity knocks, sometimes the real player really shows up," first-year manager Bo Porter said. "So we're hoping that one of those guys grabs the bull by the horns and takes charge of the shortstop position." Gonzalez is a switch hitter who is more comfortable from the left side, so he will make a nice platoon option with Greene, and Gonzalez presents the team with better defense.
Sat, 29 Sep 2012 11:15:24 -0700 Houston Astros interim manager Tony DeFrancesco said INF Marwin Gonzalez (ankle) is expected to be limited to duties as a late-inning defensive replacement, if that, for the rest of the season. The team does not want him to hit because he has reinjured his ankle multiple times while running the bases.
Mon, 24 Sep 2012 20:23:44 -0700 Houston Astros SS Marwin Gonzalez (ankle) left the game Monday, Sept. 24, against the St. Louis Cardinals due to a sprained left ankle.
Thu, 20 Sep 2012 11:36:43 -0700 Houston Astros SS Jed Lowrie (knee) is sitting out Thursday, Sept. 20, to give his right knee a day to rest. "Personally, I don't think he's 100 percent with that knee," interim manager Tony DeFrancesco said. "I think there's still some stuff going on in there and he's playing with that big knee brace. Two days in a row is good for him." INF Marwin Gonzalez (ankle) started at shortstop Thursday, his first action since hurting his left ankle Aug. 30.
