Pirates | Bucs pitching prospects not being rushed

Mon, 23 May 2016 09:13:51 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates general manager Neal Huntington said he does not want to rush SPs Tyler Glasnow and Jameson Taillon to the major leagues this year. However, Huntington also said they both "probably" will be up with the Pirates this year. Pittsburgh's starters have combined for a 4.27 ERA, which is sixth highest in the National League. Glasnow has a 2.16 ERA in nine starts for Class AAA Indianapolis and leads the International League with 63 strikeouts in 50 innings. Taillon has posted a 1.82 ERA in eight starts for Indianapolis. Huntington also said the team could use Glasnow or Taillon to help their bullpen

Fantasy Tip: Both Glasnow and Taillon have similar high strikeout upside at the next level and are likely to be stashed already in the majority of seasonal leagues. Taillon has been set back in recent years by Tommy John surgery, so Glasnow has a little more hype surrounding him entering this year. There's a good chance we see one or both within the next month.

Pirates | Jameson Taillon ready for promotion?

Thu, 19 May 2016 13:24:17 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jameson Taillon pitched six scoreless innings with just five hits allowed and eight strikeouts during Class AAA Indianapolis' win Thursday, May 19. Taillon has a 1.82 ERA with 51 strikeouts and just five walks through 49 1/3 innings over eight starts thus far with Indianapolis.

Fantasy Tip: Taillon is a highly regarded hurler who has missed significant time due to injuries, but he appears to have very little left to prove in the minors. Additionally, the Pirates rotation has been less than stellar. Making Taillon a priority now could pay off handsomely once he is activated, and at this point of the season, he is a worthy stash in the majority of seasonal leagues.

Pirates | Jameson Taillon brilliant on the farm

Tue, 03 May 2016 06:11:55 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jameson Taillon is 2-0 with a 1.54 ERA and a 0.86 WHIP in four starts at Class AAA Indianapolis. He has struck out 23 batters and walked just two in 23 1/3 innings.

Fantasy Tip: There's a lot of talk about Tyler Glasnow, but Taillon could be ahead of him in the route to the majors. Stash him wherever you can.

Pirates | Jameson Taillon sent to Triple-A

Mon, 14 Mar 2016 05:59:44 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jameson Taillon was among the wave of cuts Monday, March 14, as he and SP Tyler Glasnow were optioned to Class AAA Indianapolis.

Fantasy Tip: Taillon is a late-round flyer that could be a factor if an injury or demotion opens a spot in the rotation.

Pirates | Jameson Taillon back pitching

Mon, 29 Feb 2016 15:45:51 -0800

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jameson Taillon was back pitching in an intrasquad game Monday, Feb. 29, after injuries have limited him the last two years. He allowed three hits and a run while facing nine batters over two innings. Taillon last pitched in the minors in 2013 for Class AAA Indianapolis. He's expected to start the year at Class AAA, but he could be called up later in the season.

Fantasy Tip: Taillon is MLB.com's No. 54 overall prospect entering the 2016 season. He has a dominant fastball that sits in the upper-90s when healthy, and he could be a very successful ground-ball artist at the next level. Stash him in NL-only and dynasty/keeper formats for now.

Pirates | Jameson Taillon has hernia surgery

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 16:06:56 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jameson Taillon (hernia) underwent surgery to fix an inguinal hernia Wednesday, July 8, and the typical recovery time for such an injury is roughly eight weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Taillon, one of Pittsburgh's top pitching prospects, has had his young career set back by injuries, and it looks like he won't make an appearance in the big leagues this year. He's still worth holding onto in keeper and dynasty formats, though.

Pirates | Jameson Taillon to have surgery

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 17:10:25 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates minor league SP Jameson Taillon (hernia, elbow) will undergo surgery next week to repair an inguinal hernia. He is expected to be sidelined for two months.

Fantasy Tip: Taillon, who had been recovering from reconstructive elbow surgery, is considered to be one of the top pitching prospects in baseball. After suffering this latest setback, it's possible that he won't resume pitching until 2016. Despite these injuries, he remains worthy of monitoring in long-term keeper and dynasty leagues.

Pirates | Jameson Taillon throws without incident

Sun, 14 Jun 2015 14:56:02 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jameson Taillon (elbow) threw four innings in extended spring training Saturday, June 13, without any incident. There is still no timetable for his return to game action.

Fantasy Tip: Taillon may be able to help you in deeper mixed or NL-only leagues if he gets to pitch. Along with Gerrit Cole, Taillon was ranked as one of the most dominant threats in the minor league system at one point. Keep an eye on his progress.

Pirates | Jameson Taillon works in rehab

Mon, 08 Jun 2015 22:21:48 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jameson Taillon (elbow) threw 47 pitches over four innings in an extended spring training appearance Monday, June 8. He continues to work his way back from Tommy John surgery last April.

Fantasy Tip: Taillon was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft. If he can make his way back sometime this summer he will re-emerge as a must-have for those in dynasty fantasy formats.

Pirates | Jameson Taillon's rehab delayed

Thu, 28 May 2015 15:53:36 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jameson Taillon's (foot, elbow) rehab has been paused because of a foot injury, according to manager Clint Hurdle. However, Taillon threw Thursday, May 28.

Fantasy Tip: Taillon is the team's No. 2 overall prospect behind Tyler Glasnow. Taillon is recovering from Tommy John surgery after missing all of the 2014 season. It's unclear what his timetable is for a possible call-up to the major leagues, and it may not happen until rosters expand in September. Taillon may be worth stashing in dynasty and keeper leagues.
