Boston Red Sox C Adalberto Ibarra (shoulder) had surgery on his right labrum recently, and the team hopes he can at least be a designated hitter by spring training, WEEI.com's Alex Speier reports.

Updating previous reports, the Boston Red Sox signed C Adalberto Ibarra to a minor league deal with a bonus between $700,000 and $800,000, WEEI.com's Alex Speier reports. Ibarra had originally agreed to terms on a five-year major league deal with a guarantee of $3 million and incentives that could push the value of the deal to $4.3 million. But the catcher, who defected from Cuba last year, failed his physical in late June. He was assigned to High-A Salem.

The Boston Red Sox agreed to terms with Cuban C Adalberto Ibarra on a major league deal Monday, April 26, according to ESPNBoston.com. According to reports, the deal is worth $4.3 million over five years. Ibarra will reportedly be placed on the 40-man roster when the deal becomes official.
