Giants | Victor Cruz expects to be ready for camp

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 05:39:13 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf, knee) said he will be ready to participate once training camp begins.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz has dealt with injuries over the last two seasons but should have a decent role in the passing game if he is healthy. Owners probably should consider Cruz in the late rounds of drafts this season.

Giants | Victor Cruz doing drills again

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 08:46:18 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee, calf) is doing individual drills for the third straight day Thursday, June 16.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz is about 20 months removed from his torn patellar tendon, which is an injury many players never return to form from. He has a few hurdles to clear, but he's a WR5 flyer in fantasy if he's healthy.

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf, knee) is doing individual drills again Wednesday, June 15.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz is about 20 months removed from his torn patellar tendon, which is an injury many players never return to form after suffering it. He has a few hurdles to clear, but he's a WR5 flyer in fantasy if he's healthy.

Giants | Victor Cruz active in practice

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 12:51:04 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf, knee) ran routes and caught passes during practice Tuesday, June 14. He started small but eventually progressed to full routes. Cruz has already said he plans to participate in the start of training camp in late July.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz isn't totally out of the woods yet, but he is making good progress. Sterling Shepard is probably a less risky draft target from the Giants behind Odell Beckham Jr., but Cruz should not be overlooked. He's still capable of WR4 numbers if he can stay on the field, but that's a big if.

Giants | Victor Cruz vows to be ready

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 10:44:09 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) said he will be ready for the start of training camp. "Come July 28th my plan is to be on the field for the start of training camp," Cruz said.

Fantasy Tip: Knee and calf injuries have really put a damper on what was a bright and promising career for the salsa-dancing wide receiver. He played in only six games in 2014. Even if he participates in all of training camp, fantasy owners should be only cautiously optimistic about him this year. Odell Beckham is the clear No. 1 receiver, and the Giants drafted promising rookie Sterling Shepard, who could also take notable looks away from a healthy Cruz. Cruz should be drafted as a flex receiver, at best, this fall.

Giants | Victor Cruz doing drills

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 08:43:45 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) is doing individual drills at camp, running routes and catching passes Tuesday, June 14.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz is a WR5 flyer in fantasy if he's healthy. However, that's a big question after he has missed much of the last two years with knee and calf injuries.

Giants | Minicamp unlikely for Victor Cruz

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 12:26:40 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) is not expected to participate in organized team activities or minicamp this week, according to ESPNNewYork.com's Dan Graziano. The Giants are hoping Cruz will be able to participate in training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz will continue to have to be patient with his recovery. The Giants don't want to risk aggravation. Drafting Cruz as a WR4 wouldn't quite be lunacy, but it's safer to take him as a WR5 considering his injury history and slow recovery.

Giants | Victor Cruz hopes to practice during minicamp

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 05:38:23 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) has made significant strides over the past three months and is optimistic he could practice in the individual portions of workouts during minicamp this week.

Fantasy Tip: Over the past two seasons, Cruz has played just six games, and rookie Sterlin Shepard will likely make Cruz the third option in the passing game, at best. Cruz is a potential late-round flier in deep leagues, but you should keep your expectations in check.

Giants | Victor Cruz shows burst

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 11:53:40 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) performed full speed acceleration drills with a trainer Monday, June 6, and showed some burst in doing so. The goal is still for him to return by training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Don't let Cruz's progress get you too excited. He missed all of last year due to injury and only played in six games in 2014. For now, it's safer to draft him as a late-round flier.

Giants | Victor Cruz targeting training camp

Tue, 24 May 2016 09:50:07 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) jogged around the practice field Tuesday, May 24, as the team is targeting around training camp for him to return to full participation.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz has missed most of the last two years with a torn patellar tendon and a torn calf muscle he injured in his comeback attempt. The Giants aren't counting on him, and it wouldn't be wise to do so in fantasy other than a lottery-ticket WR5.

Giants | Victor Cruz taking it slow

Mon, 23 May 2016 09:56:46 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee, calf) and RB Orleans Darkwa (leg) were both working on the side with trainers during practice Monday, May 23. The Giants continue to take it slow with Cruz.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz's major knee injury is concerning. He's played in only six games in the last two years and will probably never be the same receiver he once was. The Giants drafted Sterling Shepard to make an immediate impact in the passing game because of the uncertainty surrounding Cruz. Consider Cruz a very risky fantasy asset moving forward as a late-round flier.

Giants | Victor Cruz limited this offseason

Sun, 15 May 2016 14:18:57 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee, calf) has received limited work during offseason workouts but hopes to be a full participant once training camp begins. Cruz said he believes he will be ready for the start of the 2016 season.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz has played only six games in the last two seasons but would have a solid role in the passing game if he is healthy. He will be a risky option because of his injury history but could still be a late-round option in some deeper leagues.

Giants | Victor Cruz feeling good

Tue, 10 May 2016 19:01:39 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) said Tuesday, May 10, that he feels "great", and he feels he will be ready for training camp. However, it is uncertain if that means he will be a full participant or limited.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz suffered a gruesome knee injury in 2014, and he missed the entire 2015 season as a result. He was a WR1 before the injury, but he is likely to be a WR3/4 or flex option in most standard fantasy formats, as Odell Beckham Jr. has emerged as the top threat for Big Blue, and Sterling Shepard was drafted and also looking for a piece of the pie.

Giants | Victor Cruz glad to be back

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 15:21:53 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf, knee) was glad to be back among his teammates and coaches during the Giants' first offseason workout Tuesday, April 26. Head coach Ben McAddo is taking it slow with Cruz this offseason, but said he's ready to practice. Cruz anticipates being the same player he used to be before suffering his prolonged injuries. "I'm not in the business to go out there and be half of myself or half of what I was," Cruz said. "I want to go out there and be 100% and be the same player that I once was."

Fantasy Tip: Cruz has missed just over two and a half seasons because of injuries, missing all of the 2015 season. There is a great deal of risk in drafting Cruz this year because of the prolonged absence and the severity of his injuries. He's still worth drafting because of what he offers, but don't draft him as more than a WR4.

Giants | Victor Cruz says he is healthy

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 09:38:51 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf, knee) said he has been training and that he is 100% at this point. Cruz said he likely will be limited during offseason workouts but wants to be a full participant during training camp.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Cruz is on the right track with his recovery and may be ready for camp. Cruz has missed most of the last two seasons because of injuries and will be a risk in fantasy drafts. Cruz could be an option in the late rounds of drafts but will not be a weekly starter.

Giants | Tempered expectations for Victor Cruz

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 18:43:52 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz's (knee, calf) progress has pleased doctors, but general manager Jerry Reese said the team isn't counting on Cruz to produce in 2016. "We expect him to be full go," Reese said. "He hasn't played in two years. He's probably more healthy than he's been in the last two years. What we get from Victor will be a bonus and we're hoping it's a great bonus for us."

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners should take the same approach as the Giants when it comes to Cruz. Draft him in the later rounds, and it consider it a bonus if he ends up producing useful numbers.

Giants | Victor Cruz working out

Thu, 07 Apr 2016 09:28:37 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee, calf) recently posted videos of him working out, doing sprints and box jumps.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz hasn't played football in 18 months, and he's still a wild card. He could be a WR4 flyer in fantasy if he has a good camp.

Giants | Victor Cruz restructures deal

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 17:53:01 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz has agreed to restructure his contract, according to sources. He will receive a base salary of $1.3 million in 2016. The contract also includes $5.5 million in playing time incentives and production incentives that will allow him to earn the rest of his previous salary.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz was in danger of being released if he did not restructure his contract, so he should be a part of the Giants next season. He was not able to play in 2015, so owners should check on his participation during offseason workouts and training camp. Cruz could be a late-round option in deeper leagues in 2016 if he does not suffer any setbacks.

Giants | Victor Cruz must restructure contract

Mon, 07 Mar 2016 08:16:48 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz is willing to accept a pay cut to stay with New York, and a source said the Giants have told Cruz he must do that. The Giants are in negotiations with Cruz's agent, Tom Condon, who has been told his client would be released without a contract negotiation. Cruz hasn't played in an NFL game in 17 months because of injury. He's scheduled to make $7.9 million this year with a salary cap hit of $9.9 million.

Fantasy Tip: There's definitely no guarantee that Cruz can regain his form after missing all of 2015. Odell Beckham Jr. has asserted himself as the team's clear No. 1 receiver these days. Cruz might be worth a late-round flier in deeper leagues in 2016 if he proves healthy in training camp.

Giants | Victor Cruz resumes running

Thu, 03 Mar 2016 19:03:42 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz said he has resumed running for the first time since surgery to repair his torn patellar tendon.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz missed all of last season, and injuries have hit him hard the last couple of seasons. He is worth a late-round flier in drafts, but he is not a sure thing by any means.

Giants | Coach expects Victor Cruz back

Wed, 24 Feb 2016 11:10:16 -0800

Updating an earlier report, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz is "absolutely" expected to be on the team in 2016, according to head coach Ben McAdoo.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz will have to show flashes in camp more than a year after his torn patellar tendon. He could be a WR5 flyer in fantasy.

Giants | Victor Cruz likely to stay

Wed, 24 Feb 2016 06:05:41 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz said there's an 80% chance that he remains with the Giants in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz will be around 18 months removed from a torn patellar tendon, and he'll have to show us something in camp before he's anything more than a WR5.

Giants | Victor Cruz on the bubble?

Mon, 22 Feb 2016 16:46:18 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz could be on the roster bubble since he is scheduled to count $9.9 million against the salary cap next season. It is believed that Cruz would be willing to take a pay cut in order to stay with the team.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz has not played since the middle of the 2014 season because of various injuries, so he likely will not return at his current salary. The team probably will look to add receivers in free agency and the draft, which may push Cruz down the depth chart. Owners should monitor the situation during the offseason, but he is not a great fantasy option entering next season.

Giants | Victor Cruz could take pay cut

Tue, 09 Feb 2016 16:47:59 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz may be willing to take a pay cut this offseason in order to stay with the Giants. Cruz has three years and $24 million remaining on his current deal.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz is expected to make a full recovery from a torn fascia in his calf. His injury history probably turns the Giants off to paying him as much as he's scheduled to earn. It would be surprising if Cruz and New York don't agree on a restructured deal. Assuming they do, Cruz should be viewed as a WR3.

Giants | Victor Cruz should fully recover

Thu, 04 Feb 2016 15:18:26 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) is dealing with a torn fascia in his calf -- a rare injury. He is still expected to make a full recovery and should avoid any long-term issues.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz has dealt with his fair share of injuries over the last couple years, missing 12 games over that span. In the meantime, Odell Beckham Jr. has taken over the world and supplanted Cruz as New York's go-to receiver. Drafting Cruz as more than a WR3 next season may be a risk.

Mon, 16 Nov 2015 10:39:09 -0800

Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) has a small tear in his calf, but his surgery has not been scheduled at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz will miss the rest of the season but may be ready for the start of next season. Rueben Randle will continue to be in the starting lineup and has become a solid fantasy option this season.

Giants | Victor Cruz out for season

Mon, 16 Nov 2015 07:02:22 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) announced he's having season-ending surgery on his left calf and will miss the rest of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Rueben Randle will continue to be in the mix, but he has only had one breakout game this season with middling outputs around 50 yards. He's a matchup flex option on FantasyScore after the team's Week 11 bye.

Giants | Victor Cruz ruled out

Fri, 13 Nov 2015 12:54:52 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee, calf) has been ruled out of the Week 10 game against the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is starting to do more on the field but is probably a few weeks away from playing. Rueben Randle ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) should continue to see a solid among of targets and could be a decent starting option on FantasyScore.

Giants | Victor Cruz to start running routes

Fri, 13 Nov 2015 05:50:32 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) will begin running individual routes Saturday, Nov. 14. They'll slowly add in throwing a ball and eventually move to longer routes. The next step would be practice. Cruz had a second platelet-rich plasma injection about three weeks ago and said he won't rush back. "I think I'll play it a little bit safer," Cruz said. "If there is any pain, I'll shut it down. You don't want to wake up anything. If there is any soreness, we shut it down. We kind of make sure we're staying under the radar as the training staff likes to call it."

Fantasy Tip: Rueben Randle ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) has been filling in for Cruz, but he has a date with the New England Patriots this week. He's a midrange flex option on FantasyScore.

Giants | Victor Cruz out of practice

Thu, 12 Nov 2015 12:54:33 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf, knee) did not practice again Thursday, Nov. 12, and is not expected to play in Week 10 against the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Tip: At this point it's fair to wonder if Cruz ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) will make it back to play at all this year. He should be left to waiver wires in all fantasy formats.

Giants | Two Giants miss practice

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 14:33:34 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) and TE Larry Donnell (neck) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Both Cruz and Donnell didn't practice all of last week either and didn't play, so this could be another downward trend. Rueben Randle ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) would be worth a hard look on FantasyScore after a productive Week 10 in Cruz's absence. Will Tye ($1,700, 3.4%) would likely start for Donnell again if Donnell is out, but he didn't do much last week and can be looked past.

Giants | Victor Cruz does some running

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 17:30:28 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) did some running on the side during practice Thursday, Nov. 5, in order to test his injured calf. Cruz said he hopes to be able to play after the team's Week 11 bye.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) is still probably a few weeks away from returning, so owners should avoid him for now. Rueben Randle ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) should continue to see targets in the passing game and could be a solid starting option.

Giants | Victor Cruz misses practice

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 15:02:27 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) sat out of practice again Thursday, Nov. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz's timetable still isn't known, but it's not likely that he'll return this week. Dwayne Harris ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has played well the last two weeks, better than Rueben Randle, and is worth a shot on FantasyScore at such a cheap price.

Giants | No timetable for Victor Cruz

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 14:28:48 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) still has no timetable for his return, according to head coach Tom Coughlin.

Fantasy Tip: It's shaping up as a lost season for Cruz ($2,800, 5.6% of cap), who's lined up to miss another game this weekend. In shallow traditional leagues, he doesn't have much business being on anyone's roster for now, and he could end up missing most of the remainder of this season.

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 14:06:06 -0800

New York Giants WRs Rueben Randle (hamstring) and Victor Cruz (calf) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Randle tweaked his hamstring last week and Cruz has been hampered all season. Cruz is more likely to sit than Randle, but if both sit, Dwayne Harris would make for a great play on FantasyScore at just $2,000 (4.0% of cap).

Fantasy Tip: Cruz ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) will probably be shelved again this week. Rueben Randle ($4,800, 9.6) and Dwayne Harris ($2,000, 4.0%) will be the primary backups behind Odell Beckham Jr ($8,200, 16.4%). They all have a fairly good matchup versus the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: It's looking like Cruz will be sidelined again. It's still unclear when he'll be able to return this season, if at all. Odell Beckham Jr. is still New York's top target, but Rueben Randle ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) and Dwayne Harris ($2,000, 4.0%) aren't bad value plays on FantasyScore this week with Cruz likely still sitting.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) probably will another week because of the injury, but owners can monitor the situation to see if things change. Rueben Randle ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) likely will continue to see more playing time if Cruz is sidelined.

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) is not expected to play in Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys, and he's undergoing another MRI exam Wednesday, Oct. 21. He's been feeling better but will likely miss another game.

Fantasy Tip: There remains no timetable for Cruz ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) to make his 2015 season debut, so he should be very far off your FantasyScore radar. While he remains out, both Odell Beckham Jr. ($8,400, 16.8% of cap) and Rueben Randle ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) are perfectly acceptable daily picks.

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) is without pain in his calf, according a source. He'll have an MRI Wednesday, Oct. 21, and could return to practice.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) will likely need a week or two of practice before a realistic shot at playing. He could be worth a low-end grab on FantasyScore eventually.
