Giants | Odell Beckham, Victor Cruz fined

Sun, 18 Sep 2016 06:08:27 -0700

New York Giants WRs Odell Beckham Jr. and Victor Cruz were each fined $12,124 by the NFL for a group celebration during Week 1's game against the Dallas Cowboys, according to a league source.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham had four catches for 73 yards in the season opener, while Cruz caught four passes for 34 yards and a touchdown in his first game in nearly two years. Both players have favorable matchups for Week 2's contest against the New Orleans Saints.

Giants | Victor Cruz realistic entering 2016

Sat, 10 Sep 2016 09:38:56 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz, who took a total of 38 preseason snaps this summer after missing all the 2015 season with a calf injury, has missed his team's last 26 contests. However, he will play his first game in 700 days when the Giants visit the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1. "I can't do it," Cruz said when asked about being able to reach the gaudy numbers he posted prior to tearing his patellar tendon in 2014. "I just have to play and think about what I'm doing out there on that field, and not setting (numerical) goals and expectations."

Fantasy Tip: Any contribution from Cruz at all should be considered a bonus by the Giants and fantasy owners. Patellar tendon tears are among the most devastating injuries an athlete can suffer and no player to date has been able to recapture his pre-injury form after receiving such a diagnosis. If he merely serves as a viable threat while Odell Beckham Jr. and rookie Sterling Shepard carry the passing game, he will be doing his job. Consider Cruz nothing more than a WR5 in fantasy.

Giants | Victor Cruz making progress

Thu, 01 Sep 2016 20:24:57 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz failed to record a catch in the preseason finale against the New England Patriots Thursday, Sept. 1, but he said he is "slowly but surely" regaining his quickness and ability to create separation.

Fantasy Tip: Injuries have derailed Cruz's promising career, and he is no more than a late-round flier at this point.

Giants | Victor Cruz will play Thursday

Wed, 31 Aug 2016 09:54:53 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz will play eight to 10 snaps during the final preseason game against the New England Patriots Thursday, Sept. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz hasn't played a regular season game since Week 6 in 2014, and he just returned to practice Monday, Aug. 22. He's nothing more than a lottery-ticket selection in the end of deep drafts. However, there is some upside if he carves out a role in the offense.

Giants | Victor Cruz gets back into game action

Sat, 27 Aug 2016 19:32:20 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) had one reception for four yards in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 27, against the New York Jets. It was his first catch in a game in 22 months due to his major knee injury and recovery. "It felt great (to) put this 80 jersey back on and get the love of the crowd…it was a great feeling," Cruz said.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz is slowly making his way back, but he is still no lock for the 53-man roster. Only fantasy owners with deep benches and plenty of patience will want to take a chance on Cruz.

Giants | Victor Cruz has good chance to play

Thu, 25 Aug 2016 10:51:36 -0700

New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo said he is very optimistic about WR Victor Cruz's (groin) availability for the preseason game against the New York Jets Saturday, Aug. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz probably will receive limited playing time if he is active for the game since he has not played in a game in two years. Cruz has a chance to have a solid role in the passing game this season and could be a late-round option in deeper leagues despite his injury history.

Giants | Victor Cruz sharp again in practice

Wed, 24 Aug 2016 10:45:56 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz caught three passes during team drills and a touchdown pass during a red-zone drill during practice Wednesday, Aug. 23. He is on pace to play against the New York Jets Saturday, Aug. 27.

Fantasy Tip: It's another step in the right direction for Cruz, but he's still nothing more than a late-round flier in fantasy leagues. How he holds up in game action should be more telling. Continue to temper your expectations for now.

Giants | Victor Cruz impresses at camp

Tue, 23 Aug 2016 17:20:41 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (groin) did not show any signs of a lingering groin injury at practice Tuesday, Aug. 23, and he displayed quickness off the line of scrimmage. Cruz was a full participant in practice for the first time since Aug. 8.

Fantasy Tip: A step in the right direction, but we need to see a lot more than one practice to jump on the bandwagon. Think of him as a shaky WR5 at this point.

Giants | Victor Cruz to practice in full

Tue, 23 Aug 2016 08:13:08 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (groin) will practice with no expected limitations Tuesday, Aug. 23. If all goes well this week, he'll play in the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz is wading in deep waters for his fantasy life after repeated injuries. He's in the WR5 mix, but he has the talent for more if he can return to his pre-patella injury form.

Giants | Victor Cruz will return Monday

Sun, 21 Aug 2016 12:57:24 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (groin) will return to practice Monday, Aug. 22, although it will not be a full practice. He could practice fully on Tuesday, Aug. 23, however, according to head coach Ben McAdoo.

Fantasy Tip: It's encouraging that Cruz is finally returning, but he has some convincing to do after not playing since 2014. Sterling Shepard may have already supplanted Cruz as the No. 2 wide receiver with the Giants, so don't view Cruz as more than a WR5 with the large amount of risk he brings.

Giants | Victor Cruz not ready to play

Sat, 20 Aug 2016 11:41:04 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (groin) will not play Saturday, Aug. 20, against the Buffalo Bills. He will continue working with a trainer Sunday, Aug. 21, and plans to practice Monday, Aug. 22 in hopes of playing against the New York Jets next week.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz's struggle with good health has been well documented as he hasn't taken the field since 2014. Caution should be used, and drafting Sterling Shepard in an earlier round is probably the better way to go incase Cruz's issues continue to persist. Don't completely rule him out of your draft strategy, though.

Giants | Victor Cruz sits again

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 10:33:05 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (groin) did not participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz probably will miss at least one of the preseason games remaining and it is not known when he will be back on the field. He has dealt with injuries over the past several seasons, which makes him a risky option for owners. Cruz could be a No. 4 or No. 5 receiver in fantasy leagues if he is healthy.

Giants | Victor Cruz works on side

Wed, 17 Aug 2016 11:12:58 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (groin) did not practice Wednesday, Aug. 17, but was able to do more work on the sidelines, according to head coach Ben McAdoo.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz will need to return to the practice field before he is able to play in any games, so owners will need to monitor the situation. He will be a risky player for owners because of his injury history but could be a late-round option in deeper leagues if he is healthy.

Giants | Victor Cruz out again Wednesday

Wed, 17 Aug 2016 08:49:20 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (groin) is out of practice Wednesday, Aug. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz still has enough talent to use as a WR5 flyer as he attempts to make it make from multiple serious leg injuries.

Giants | Victor Cruz could practice Wednesday

Mon, 15 Aug 2016 16:09:25 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (groin) may return to practice in some capacity Wednesday, Aug. 17, according to head coach Ben McAdoo.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz still faces an uphill battle in his return to action this year. This week could be that next step forward. It's unclear if he'll be ready to play by Week 1, but drafting him as a low-end WR4 or high-end WR5 isn't the worst course of action.

Giants | Victor Cruz still dealing with injury

Sun, 14 Aug 2016 10:49:06 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz's (groin) groin injury is still bothering him, according to head coach Ben McAdoo.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz was able to do some things during practice Sunday, Aug. 14, but he may not be a full participant in practice for a while. Cruz is a risky option for owners in all leagues but could be a late-round option if he is healthy for Week 1.

Giants | Victor Cruz on the field

Sun, 14 Aug 2016 09:37:43 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (groin) participated in individual drills during practice Sunday, Aug. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz missed the first preseason game because of the injury, so he probably will be limited over the next few days. Cruz is expected to have a solid role in the passing game if he is healthy this season. He could be a late-round option in deeper leagues but will not be a weekly starting option.

Giants | Victor Cruz may practice Sunday

Sat, 13 Aug 2016 07:19:57 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (groin) has a chance to participate in practice Sunday, Aug. 14, according to head coach Ben McAdoo. Cruz missed the first preseason game because of a groin injury.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz has dealt with injuries over the past two seasons, so owners will need to keep an eye on the situation. Cruz could have a decent role in the passing game if he is able to stay healthy but will be a risky option for owners because of his injury history. He could be a late-round option in some fantasy leagues.

Giants | Two G-Men out of preseason opener

Fri, 12 Aug 2016 08:43:34 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning and WR Victor Cruz (groin) won't play in the preseason opener Friday, Aug. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Nothing is wrong with Manning as it was a coach's decision for him to sit. Cruz is still trying to make it back from a torn patella and calf muscle that have kept him out the last season-and-a-half. He has WR5 value, but the leg injuries are starting to mount.

Giants | Victor Cruz downplays injury

Thu, 11 Aug 2016 18:40:09 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (groin) said he is not worried about the groin injury which caused him to miss practice Wednesday, Aug. 10, and is taking it slow to prevent the injury from becoming a bigger issue.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz is still worth a flier in the final rounds, but don't count on him to contribute. There is a real chance he will never fully healthy again.

Giants | Victor Cruz might not have spot

Wed, 10 Aug 2016 18:59:42 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) might not have a spot on the 53-man roster if it comes down to merit, according to beat writer Jordan Raanan. WRs Tavarres King, Roger Lewis, WR Darius Powe and WR Myles White have all made more plays.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz is two years removed from a major injury, but apparently he is yet to bounce back to his pre-injury form. He is an extremely risky fantasy selection at this point, and it's probably best to let him be someone else's headache at this point while you stock up on more certain options.

Giants | Victor Cruz out of practice

Wed, 10 Aug 2016 08:46:56 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (groin) is out of practice again Wednesday, Aug. 10. The team hasn't expressed concern yet.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz still holds WR5 upside, but the leg injuries are beginning to pile up. Torn patella tendons are serious injuries that rob athletes of their burst, and he has yet to make it all the way back from that.

Giants | Victor Cruz may not play Friday

Tue, 09 Aug 2016 11:50:17 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (groin) did not practice Tuesday, Aug. 9, with a tight groin, according to head coach Ben McAdoo. His status for Friday, Aug. 12, against the Miami Dolphins is uncertain.

Fantasy Tip: The Giants will take it easy with Cruz considering his extensive injury history and the severity of those injuries. If Cruz is at full health before the regular season starts, he should still be in the WR4 conversation.

Giants | Geremy Davis getting first-team reps

Fri, 05 Aug 2016 10:23:22 -0700

New York Giants WR Geremy Davis has been getting some repetitions with the first-team unit, as the club brings WR Victor Cruz (knee) along slowly. In the process, he's looked improved from last year.

Fantasy Tip: With Cruz still not back to 100% health, and Rueben Randle no longer in town, there will certainly be targets to garner alongside top receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Rookie Sterling Shepard looks like the most likely to emerge but if he fails to capitalize on his opportunity, Davis could get a shot at more looks and potentially make an impact.

Giants | Victor Cruz coming along

Tue, 02 Aug 2016 22:10:10 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) is coming along slowly in his return from a serious knee injury. He caught his first pass of the summer in 11-on-11 drills Tuesday, Aug. 2. He is slowly making progress.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz is likely to work as the No. 3 receiver if he can stay healthy and does not suffer any setbacks or additional injuries, but he will have to hold off the likes of Geremy Davis, Myles White and Roger Lewis. Cruz is worth a late-round fantasy pick if he can re-gain any of his pre-injury form.

Giants | Victor Cruz is on schedule

Sat, 30 Jul 2016 10:38:11 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) is on schedule in his recovery process from a calf injury for which he missed all of last season. Cruz practiced for a second straight day Saturday, July 30, without limitations.

Fantasy Tip: The Giants will probably still take it easy with Cruz leading up to the regular season. He may not be counted on as much as in previous seasons, though, with promising rookie Sterling Shepard in the mix. If Cruz stays healthy he could be a draft-day steal, though.

Giants | Victor Cruz at practice

Fri, 29 Jul 2016 07:54:55 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee, calf) is practicing Friday, July 29.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz has missed most of the last two seasons due to a torn patellar tendon and a calf injury. You can't sneeze at the potential upside that comes from Odell Beckham Jr. commanding so much attention from defenses. If Cruz has anything left, he's in a prime spot to showcase it. He's in the WR5 mix in fantasy.

Giants | Victor Cruz avoids PUP list

Thu, 28 Jul 2016 11:28:10 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf, knee) will not be placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list but will be limited during the early part of training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz will be eased back into practice since he missed the entire 2015 season because of injuries. Owners will need to monitor him during training camp to see if he is making good progress in his return. He will be a risky option for owners because of his injury history, but should be a solid option in the late rounds of drafts.

Giants | Betting against Victor Cruz?

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 22:51:05 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) continues to make his way back from the serious knee injury he suffered in the 2014 season. While he might make it back through training camp and be healthy enough to play in the regular season, beat writer Ralph Vacchiano doesn't believe Cruz will post more than 50 receptions.

Fantasy Tip: Not only is Cruz making his way back from a major injury, but he now has rookie Sterling Shepard to contend with for receptions, as well as Odell Beckham Jr. Cruz is likely to be third fiddle among the receivers, at best, and might also be behind Larry Donnell and/or Will Tye, as well as Shane Vereen in the passing game. Fantasy owners might want to take a flier on him in the final round on draft day, but that's about it.

Giants | Optimism around Victor Cruz

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 17:42:19 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee, calf) has made good progress in his recovery, and there is optimism he can return to his pre-injury form.

Fantasy Tip: There is no guarantee Cruz will be able to stay healthy, let alone play at a high level. However, he is a great player to gamble on in the later rounds of drafts.

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 05:39:13 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf, knee) said he will be ready to participate once training camp begins.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz has dealt with injuries over the last two seasons but should have a decent role in the passing game if he is healthy. Owners probably should consider Cruz in the late rounds of drafts this season.

Giants | Victor Cruz doing drills again

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 08:46:18 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee, calf) is doing individual drills for the third straight day Thursday, June 16.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz is about 20 months removed from his torn patellar tendon, which is an injury many players never return to form from. He has a few hurdles to clear, but he's a WR5 flyer in fantasy if he's healthy.

Giants | Victor Cruz active in practice

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 12:51:04 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf, knee) ran routes and caught passes during practice Tuesday, June 14. He started small but eventually progressed to full routes. Cruz has already said he plans to participate in the start of training camp in late July.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz isn't totally out of the woods yet, but he is making good progress. Sterling Shepard is probably a less risky draft target from the Giants behind Odell Beckham Jr., but Cruz should not be overlooked. He's still capable of WR4 numbers if he can stay on the field, but that's a big if.

Giants | Victor Cruz vows to be ready

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 10:44:09 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) said he will be ready for the start of training camp. "Come July 28th my plan is to be on the field for the start of training camp," Cruz said.

Fantasy Tip: Knee and calf injuries have really put a damper on what was a bright and promising career for the salsa-dancing wide receiver. He played in only six games in 2014. Even if he participates in all of training camp, fantasy owners should be only cautiously optimistic about him this year. Odell Beckham is the clear No. 1 receiver, and the Giants drafted promising rookie Sterling Shepard, who could also take notable looks away from a healthy Cruz. Cruz should be drafted as a flex receiver, at best, this fall.

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 08:43:45 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) is doing individual drills at camp, running routes and catching passes Tuesday, June 14.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz is a WR5 flyer in fantasy if he's healthy. However, that's a big question after he has missed much of the last two years with knee and calf injuries.

Giants | Minicamp unlikely for Victor Cruz

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 12:26:40 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) is not expected to participate in organized team activities or minicamp this week, according to ESPNNewYork.com's Dan Graziano. The Giants are hoping Cruz will be able to participate in training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz will continue to have to be patient with his recovery. The Giants don't want to risk aggravation. Drafting Cruz as a WR4 wouldn't quite be lunacy, but it's safer to take him as a WR5 considering his injury history and slow recovery.

Giants | Victor Cruz hopes to practice during minicamp

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 05:38:23 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) has made significant strides over the past three months and is optimistic he could practice in the individual portions of workouts during minicamp this week.

Fantasy Tip: Over the past two seasons, Cruz has played just six games, and rookie Sterlin Shepard will likely make Cruz the third option in the passing game, at best. Cruz is a potential late-round flier in deep leagues, but you should keep your expectations in check.

Giants | Victor Cruz shows burst

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 11:53:40 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) performed full speed acceleration drills with a trainer Monday, June 6, and showed some burst in doing so. The goal is still for him to return by training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Don't let Cruz's progress get you too excited. He missed all of last year due to injury and only played in six games in 2014. For now, it's safer to draft him as a late-round flier.

Giants | Victor Cruz targeting training camp

Tue, 24 May 2016 09:50:07 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) jogged around the practice field Tuesday, May 24, as the team is targeting around training camp for him to return to full participation.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz has missed most of the last two years with a torn patellar tendon and a torn calf muscle he injured in his comeback attempt. The Giants aren't counting on him, and it wouldn't be wise to do so in fantasy other than a lottery-ticket WR5.

Giants | Victor Cruz taking it slow

Mon, 23 May 2016 09:56:46 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee, calf) and RB Orleans Darkwa (leg) were both working on the side with trainers during practice Monday, May 23. The Giants continue to take it slow with Cruz.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz's major knee injury is concerning. He's played in only six games in the last two years and will probably never be the same receiver he once was. The Giants drafted Sterling Shepard to make an immediate impact in the passing game because of the uncertainty surrounding Cruz. Consider Cruz a very risky fantasy asset moving forward as a late-round flier.

Sun, 15 May 2016 14:18:57 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee, calf) has received limited work during offseason workouts but hopes to be a full participant once training camp begins. Cruz said he believes he will be ready for the start of the 2016 season.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz has played only six games in the last two seasons but would have a solid role in the passing game if he is healthy. He will be a risky option because of his injury history but could still be a late-round option in some deeper leagues.

Giants | Victor Cruz feeling good

Tue, 10 May 2016 19:01:39 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) said Tuesday, May 10, that he feels "great", and he feels he will be ready for training camp. However, it is uncertain if that means he will be a full participant or limited.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz suffered a gruesome knee injury in 2014, and he missed the entire 2015 season as a result. He was a WR1 before the injury, but he is likely to be a WR3/4 or flex option in most standard fantasy formats, as Odell Beckham Jr. has emerged as the top threat for Big Blue, and Sterling Shepard was drafted and also looking for a piece of the pie.

Giants | Victor Cruz glad to be back

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 15:21:53 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf, knee) was glad to be back among his teammates and coaches during the Giants' first offseason workout Tuesday, April 26. Head coach Ben McAddo is taking it slow with Cruz this offseason, but said he's ready to practice. Cruz anticipates being the same player he used to be before suffering his prolonged injuries. "I'm not in the business to go out there and be half of myself or half of what I was," Cruz said. "I want to go out there and be 100% and be the same player that I once was."

Fantasy Tip: Cruz has missed just over two and a half seasons because of injuries, missing all of the 2015 season. There is a great deal of risk in drafting Cruz this year because of the prolonged absence and the severity of his injuries. He's still worth drafting because of what he offers, but don't draft him as more than a WR4.

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf, knee) said he has been training and that he is 100% at this point. Cruz said he likely will be limited during offseason workouts but wants to be a full participant during training camp.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Cruz is on the right track with his recovery and may be ready for camp. Cruz has missed most of the last two seasons because of injuries and will be a risk in fantasy drafts. Cruz could be an option in the late rounds of drafts but will not be a weekly starter.

Giants | Tempered expectations for Victor Cruz

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 18:43:52 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz's (knee, calf) progress has pleased doctors, but general manager Jerry Reese said the team isn't counting on Cruz to produce in 2016. "We expect him to be full go," Reese said. "He hasn't played in two years. He's probably more healthy than he's been in the last two years. What we get from Victor will be a bonus and we're hoping it's a great bonus for us."

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners should take the same approach as the Giants when it comes to Cruz. Draft him in the later rounds, and it consider it a bonus if he ends up producing useful numbers.

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee, calf) recently posted videos of him working out, doing sprints and box jumps.

Giants | Victor Cruz restructures deal

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 17:53:01 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz has agreed to restructure his contract, according to sources. He will receive a base salary of $1.3 million in 2016. The contract also includes $5.5 million in playing time incentives and production incentives that will allow him to earn the rest of his previous salary.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz was in danger of being released if he did not restructure his contract, so he should be a part of the Giants next season. He was not able to play in 2015, so owners should check on his participation during offseason workouts and training camp. Cruz could be a late-round option in deeper leagues in 2016 if he does not suffer any setbacks.

Giants | Victor Cruz must restructure contract

Mon, 07 Mar 2016 08:16:48 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz is willing to accept a pay cut to stay with New York, and a source said the Giants have told Cruz he must do that. The Giants are in negotiations with Cruz's agent, Tom Condon, who has been told his client would be released without a contract negotiation. Cruz hasn't played in an NFL game in 17 months because of injury. He's scheduled to make $7.9 million this year with a salary cap hit of $9.9 million.

Fantasy Tip: There's definitely no guarantee that Cruz can regain his form after missing all of 2015. Odell Beckham Jr. has asserted himself as the team's clear No. 1 receiver these days. Cruz might be worth a late-round flier in deeper leagues in 2016 if he proves healthy in training camp.

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz said he has resumed running for the first time since surgery to repair his torn patellar tendon.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz missed all of last season, and injuries have hit him hard the last couple of seasons. He is worth a late-round flier in drafts, but he is not a sure thing by any means.
