The New York Giants do not know whether and to what extent WR Victor Cruz (knee) will recover from the severe knee injury he suffered last season. He might not be ready for the start of training camp, and if he can go Cruz is expected to be on a somewhat limited program.
Fantasy Tip: Cruz suffered that torn patellar tendon in a prime time game last season, perhaps one of the saddest scene on the field in all of 2014. He is a huge wild card heading into fantasy drafts in 2015. He could return to form, or miss the entire season. No one can say for certain at this point.
Thu, 26 Mar 2015 10:17:42 -0700
Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) "looks really good and light," according to head coach Tom Coughlin. Cruz started running last week six months after he tore the patellar tendon in his knee in Week 6. Coughlin projects Cruz to be available for the start of training camp, but he's unsure if Cruz will be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. However, the team remains cautiously optimistic about Cruz in 2015.
Fantasy Tip: It seems unlikely that Cruz will ever the player he once was after going through this devastating injury. Making it back for Week 1 may be a big stretch, too. Don't expect Cruz to have much fantasy value at all in 2015.
Wed, 25 Mar 2015 08:46:31 -0700
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) could miss the start of the 2015 season with a torn patellar tendon in his knee, according to head coach Tom Coughlin. Cruz's goal is to be ready for Week 1.
Fantasy Tip: Cruz might be lucky to have any fantasy football relevance at all in 2015 after suffering such a debilitating and horrific injury to his knee. He's fighting a very steep uphill battle to return, and it was an injury that often robs players of their explosiveness, which was a big part of Cruz's game. Keep an eye on his recovery, but don't expect much out of him this season.
Sat, 21 Feb 2015 07:21:35 -0800
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) looks good as he continues to recover from a torn right pateller tendon in his knee, according to general manager Jerry Reese. Reese said the Giants would not put all their eggs in that basket heading into next year.
Fantasy Tip: If Cruz can stay healthy next season, there is some upside to owning him in fantasy football, especially with team's trying to slow down Odell Beckham Jr. Still, health will be the big question, and Cruz should be considered a WR2 at this point.
Thu, 19 Feb 2015 16:05:55 -0800
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) may commence running shortly, according to head coach Tom Coughlin. Cruz is recovering from a torn right patellar tendon in his right knee.
Fantasy Tip: Odell Beckham Jr. will be the wide receiver to own from the Giants, but a healthy Victor Cruz shouldn't be overlooked by any means, though he will not have as much value as he has had in previous years. If he can play a full season, there's still potential for WR2 numbers to be had.
Wed, 24 Dec 2014 10:36:57 -0800
Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) said he hopes to be ready for the start of training camp next season but will listen to the doctors. Cruz believes his leg could be stronger than it was before the injury.
Fantasy Tip: Cruz has several months to rehab his knee before the start of camp, so owners should monitor his situation during the offseason. He likely will fall down drat boards in 2015 because of the injury but could be a solid draft selection if he is able to return to pre-injury form.
Wed, 24 Dec 2014 08:28:26 -0800
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) said his rehab from a knee injury is going well, and he is running on a treadmill.
Fantasy Tip: This is good news for Cruz, who appears to be right on schedule. Monitor his progress in the offseason before you consider adding him to your roster in 2015.
Fri, 17 Oct 2014 13:28:29 -0700
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) will rehab at the team's facility for the next two to three months and believes he will need four to eight months to recover from his surgery.
Fantasy Tip: Cruz will miss the rest of this season and could also miss some offseason workouts because of his rehab. Cruz likely will be lower on wide receiver rankings for 2015, but owners will need to see how he is doing before considering drafting him.
Tue, 14 Oct 2014 15:03:33 -0700
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) was officially placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Oct. 14.
Fantasy Tip: This is a reminder to drop Cruz in all single-year fantasy football formats.
Tue, 14 Oct 2014 11:09:59 -0700
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) won't ever be the same after his season-ending knee injury, according to Dr. David Chao. "He can return to 100 percent, but it (his knee) is a car in a car accident," said Chao, a former NFL team physician. "Never brand new when fixed." There is no timetable for Cruz's rehab, and there is no prognosis for the rest of his career. His injury could rob him of his explosiveness and change-of-direction ability. A handful of NFL players have returned from this type of injury, but none of them discovered their elite form. A torn patellar tendon can't be fixed arthroscopically, so it needs a massive open procedure that will require lengthy and painful rehab. Cruz will need to rebuild the muscles around the tendon, and it'll likely be six months before he can even try to run again.
Fantasy Tip: It's a tough break for Cruz. A lot will depend on how his rehab goes as far as his chances of returning next season to make a fantasy football impact. The Giants will be even more determined to develop their young receivers like Rueben Randle and Odell Beckham Jr.
Mon, 13 Oct 2014 16:04:57 -0700
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) underwent successful season-ending patellar tendon surgery on his right knee Monday, Oct. 13.
Fantasy Tip: Cruz won't be able to return until next summer. You can drop him in all standard, one-year leagues. Rueben Randle and Odell Beckham Jr. will see the roles expand drastically with Cruz out of action for the rest of the year.
Mon, 13 Oct 2014 11:54:46 -0700
Updating previous reports, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair his torn patellar tendon.
Fantasy Tip: Cruz probably will miss the rest of the 2014 because of the injury, so owners should check on the waiver wire for available receivers. Odell Beckham Jr. likely will have a bigger role in the offense and could be an option for owners looking for help at the position.
Mon, 13 Oct 2014 11:19:33 -0700
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) has been transferred from Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia to Hospital for Special Surgery in New York in order to undergo more testing. Cruz suffered a torn patellar tendon in Week 6.
Fantasy Tip: Cruz likely will miss the rest of the season, so owners should start looking for a replacement. Rueben Randle and Odell Beckham Jr. likely will become the team's starting receivers and should have fantasy value.
Sun, 12 Oct 2014 20:40:55 -0700
Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) will be admitted to a local hospital Sunday, Oct. 12, with the torn patellar tendon in his right knee.
Sun, 12 Oct 2014 19:27:37 -0700
Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) was taken off on a cart after suffering a torn patellar tendon in his right knee. As he was carted off, he was sobbing on the way back to the locker room.
Fantasy Tip: No matter what side of fantasy or the NFC East rivalry you're on, that was sad watching the undrafted free agent turned Pro Bowler leave in tears and terrible pain. For fantasy purposes, Rueben Randle and Odell Beckham Jr. will climb the depth chart, and preseason star rookie Corey Washington could even see time. Cruz's 2014 season is over, and he can be dropped in all formats.
Sun, 12 Oct 2014 19:26:07 -0700
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) suffered an apparent right knee injury in the third quarter of the Week 6 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. On a fourth and goal play to the corner of the end zone, Cruz was unable to haul in a fade from QB Eli Manning. He went down and immediately grasped his right knee.
Thu, 18 Sep 2014 05:39:28 -0700
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz had three drops in Week 2 after demanding to see the ball more before the game. He vowed to get better moving forward.
Fantasy Tip: Cruz is still a decent WR2 in Week 3 against the Houston Texans. He is priced at $6,400 (12.8% of your cap) on FantasyScore this week.
Tue, 09 Sep 2014 15:11:59 -0700
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz thinks the offense will improve if more targets are directed his way. "In order for us to be successful I think there needs to be an increased number of targets in my direction," Cruz said, on a conference call with reporters. "And other playmakers' directions, just like Rueben Randle as well, in my opinion." Cruz had only six targets and finished with two grabs and 24 yards in the team's Week 1 loss to the Detroit Lions Monday, Sept. 8. Randle was targeted only three times for two catches and one yard. The Giants offense as a whole was unproductive against the Lions after looking poor in the preseason.
Fantasy Tip: Eli Manning has struggled to pick up the new terminology of the offense, and that's something that could continue to hurt Cruz and the other playmakers early in the season. The Green Bay Packers should present a chance to get going, but you may want to avoid Cruz ($5,600; 11.2% of cap) in FantasyScore for at least another week.
Tue, 19 Aug 2014 08:19:25 -0700
New York Giants WRs Victor Cruz, Rueben Randle, Jerrel Jernigan and Mario Manningham have not made many big plays this preseason. Cruz initially caught a long play-action pass Saturday, Aug. 16, but dropped it. Randle has one catch for 12 yards in three games. Jernigan has not carried over his momentum from late last season, per head coach Tom Coughlin, and also dropped a throw from Eli Manning Saturday. Corey Washington has three touchdowns but received fewer first-string practice reps than Manningham in first-string practice reps Monday, Aug. 18.
Fantasy Tip: Add in Odell Beckham Jr.'s injury, and there's little reason to believe in this offense right now. At least this may make them cheaper fantasy options.
Tue, 19 Aug 2014 08:16:40 -0700
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz said he's not concerned about the offense's struggles "mainly because we have not shown a lot. We haven't given a lot of plays or tipped out hand on a lot of things that we have shown yet. It is still pretty base stuff, but we just have to do a better job of executing."
Fantasy Tip: Anybody could say this is the case in preseason play. Eli Manning directing a timing-based, West Coast offense is an interesting but risky proposition. Fantasy players could do worse for a QB2. As for Cruz, he's still a fine WR2 in all formats who'll get his thanks to his big-play ability.
Thu, 14 Aug 2014 14:20:33 -0700
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz is using the preseason to work on his technique and to make sure his routes are crisp, instead of focusing on the statistical side of the game.
Fantasy Tip: Cruz heads into the regular season as a solid WR2 option. Hakeem Nicks is gone and Cruz figures to play mostly in the slot. If he can stay healthy, he should return to WR1 status.
Tue, 12 Aug 2014 18:02:23 -0700
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) was seen limping following a collision in one-on-one drills at practice Tuesday, Aug. 12.
Fantasy Tip: Keep an eye on his status in the coming days to make sure Cruz is just dealing with a bruise and not something that will linger into the season.

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 09:23:13 -0700
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz said he is at an eight out of 10 in comfort with the new offense.
Fantasy Tip: Cruz still has plenty of time to get completely up to speed with the team's new offense. Regular practice time and preseason games should help everyone on the offensive side of the ball feel more comfortable with the new offense.
Wed, 16 Jul 2014 20:33:39 -0700
New York Giants rookie WR Odell Beckham Jr. is viewed as an outside receiver despite standing just 5-foot-11, and he might push WR Rueben Randle for the No. 2 job opposite WR Victor Cruz.
Fantasy Tip: Beckham is a Top 60 fantasy receiver heading into the season, and he obviously has quite a bit of upside. He is worth nabbing in the area of Rounds 12-16 on draft day in most fantasy formats.
Thu, 05 Jun 2014 17:17:45 -0700

Fri, 09 May 2014 10:23:22 -0700
New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. is expected to play on the outside with WR Rueben Randle, according to Giants general manager Jerry Reese. WR Victor Cruz will play out of the slot. Reese also noted the return of WR Mario Manningham to the offense.
Fantasy Tip: It is presumed that Beckham will battle Manningham for a starting job in training camp and the preseason. Should he win the job, the electric rookie is a WR4 in standard formats.
Thu, 08 May 2014 18:23:28 -0700
The New York Giants selected Louisiana State WR Odell Beckham Jr. with the 12th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
Fantasy Tip: They decided to go with a complementary weapon for Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle. Eli Manning is still a sound fantasy backup who has a bit more potential if New York can protect him a bit better. Beckham is a better long-term prospect than for 2014, but he's a capable reserve fantasy catcher due to his speed. Maybe Ben McAdoo will use him creatively.
Thu, 24 Apr 2014 12:27:57 -0700
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz said he would like the team to target a wide receiver in the NFL draft. "A (big-play receiver) is something we need in this offense to be successful," Cruz continued. "An outside guy that can do the job and that can help fuel all the other receivers in the locker room and put some fire up under them to get them where they have to be."

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 20:28:16 -0700
Former New York Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride said in a radio interview this week that it is "ludicrous" to say QB Eli Manning is declining. "There's been no deterioration of his arm strength, there's been no lack of preparation and effort," Gilbride said. "I think he's going to be fine as soon as they solidify the offensive line. They certainly made a move to do that by bringing in three interior offensive linemen and as soon as they get somebody that's going to be productive for them as an outside receiver. WR Victor Cruz is terrific, but they need somebody that when they go to match up, bump and run (and) go win for them."
Mon, 03 Mar 2014 13:20:43 -0800
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz said he is completely recovered from the knee surgery he had in December. He has been working on weight training for now but hopes to start running routes by the end of March.
Mon, 03 Mar 2014 13:18:13 -0800
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz said he believes he could be used like the Green Bay Packers use WR Randall Cobb, because offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo worked with the Packers in 2013. "I do see myself as a Randall Cobb," Cruz said. "Hopefully I can sneak in that backfield for a couple plays. I don't know how effective that will be. But we'll definitely see where it takes us. But we'll see. I'm excited to be all over the field this year."
Fantasy Tip: Cruz likely will be a starting wide receiver in all leagues next season, and any rushing stats he could provide would be an extra bonus.

Wed, 15 Jan 2014 09:12:14 -0800
With the hiring of offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo, the New York Giants are admitting that they will change up their offensive approach to be more successful in 2014. "We're going to try to compromise the system with what we have here," head coach Tom Coughlin said. "However, there will be change, and that change will be very positive and very well-received by our team and players. And if our players are scrambling around to learn a new system -- good. That's another fire in their rear end." The new offensive scheme should help WR Victor Cruz, and it'll require QB Eli Manning to go through his progressions quickly and deliver the ball to playmakers in space.

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz said he wants to work in the offseason to eliminate any disconnect with QB Eli Manning. "This year I'll make it a point to get with Eli a little bit more … and get the receiving corps together as much as we can, to kind of build that more," Cruz said.
"That's one thing we lacked … that continuity from a receiver standpoint with our quarterback. And I want to build that earlier this year. We've got to set some time apart and get the receivers down with Eli whenever he's ready and kind of just schedule it right so we can just build, not only on the field, but off the field."

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said WR Victor Cruz (knee, concussion) should be ready for the offseason program in 2014. "[The need for surgery was] very unfortunate," Coughlin said Friday. "Victor was having a good year. It would have been great to have him for these last two games, but we're very confident that the swiftness with which the procedure was done should give him an outstanding opportunity in the offseason to be stronger than ever."
Sat, 21 Dec 2013 06:30:11 -0800
New York Giants WR Rueben Randle wants to show he can be an NFL starter with WR Victor Cruz (knee) out. "I am trying," Randle said. "I don't know if I have [shown that yet] or not. That is definitely the case that I am trying to prove."
