Giants | NYG not interested in Victor Cruz reunion

Wed, 22 Mar 2017 18:02:50 -0700

Free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants) is unlikely to return to the New York Giants at a lower salary, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano.

Fantasy Tip: With the addition of Brandon Marshall prior to the official start of free agency, Cruz would slot in as the No. 4 receiver on the depth chart at best behind Odell Beckham Jr., Marshall and Sterling Shepard. At the moment, his best option may be the Carolina Panthers. Either way, his days of fantasy relevancy are almost certainly over.

Panthers | Victor Cruz happy with Carolina visit

Mon, 20 Feb 2017 16:57:52 -0800

Free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants) said his visit with the Carolina Panthers Monday, Feb. 20, went well. No deal is imminent at this point, but it appears there is mutual interest between Cruz and the Panthers. Cruz does not have any other visits scheduled at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz could meet with a few more teams before he signs with a team, but he may have to wait before he receives a deal. Cruz has dealt with injuries in the last several years but was able play 15 games in 2016 and finished with 586 yards and one touchdown. Cruz probably will be a No. 3 receiver for a team in 2017 and can be a No. 4 or No. 5 receiver for fantasy owners.

Panthers | Victor Cruz visited Panthers

Mon, 20 Feb 2017 12:13:12 -0800

Free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants) visited the Carolina Panthers over the weekend, according to a source. A deal is not imminent and Cruz is expected to speak with at least one other team.

Fantasy Tip: The term "washed up" was made for players like Cruz. He didn't produce much in a complementary role with the Giants last year and is clearly past his prime. For now, only draft him as a late-round option in standard leagues.

Ravens | Baltimore unlikely to look at Victor Cruz

Sat, 18 Feb 2017 11:21:46 -0800

Free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants) probably will not be an option for the Baltimore Ravens this offseason unless he is willing to sign for the veteran minimum, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jamison Hensley.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz's injury history likely will limit his market, but teams looking for a slot receiver could have interest in him. He will be a risky fantasy option because of his injuries but could be a No. 4 or No. 5 receiver depending on his role.

Panthers | Victor Cruz could fit in Carolina

Fri, 17 Feb 2017 22:03:13 -0800

Free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants) could be pursued by the Carolina Panthers, according to beat writer David Newton. General manager Dave Gettleman has a connection with Cruz from his time with the New York Giants, and Cruz would fill Carolina's need for a slot receiver.

Broncos | Broncos plan to meet with Victor Cruz

Tue, 14 Feb 2017 20:17:44 -0800

The Denver Broncos are "working" to meet with free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants).

Fantasy Tip: The Broncos have plenty of salary cap space, which apparently includes enough room for some risks. Cruz would certainly qualify as one, being someone who has looked like a much different player since tearing the patellar tendon in his knee in 2014. While Denver does have a need for a No. 3 receiver, the 30-year-old still has a long road ahead back towards fantasy relevance.

NFL | Victor Cruz probably done, says scout

Mon, 13 Feb 2017 20:50:31 -0800

Free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants) is "probably done," according to one NFL scout.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz tore a patellar tendon in 2014, and since then, he hasn't nearly been the same, which was very evident this past season as he registered a career-low 39.1 receiving yards per game over 15 contests. He'll likely get another shot with some receiver-needy club in training camp, but it would take a long road back for him to suddenly be fantasy relevant again.

Giants | Victor Cruz released

Mon, 13 Feb 2017 11:19:00 -0800

Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz was officially released Monday, Feb. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz didn't do a whole lot for the Giants last season. Lack of production, injuries and age make this a logical move for the Giants. Odell Beckham Jr. and Sterling Shephard are now at the helm of the Giants' receiving corps.

Giants | Victor Cruz to be cut

Mon, 13 Feb 2017 09:48:11 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz will be released Monday, Feb. 13, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz showed some signs of life after two years of debilitating injuries. However, he didn't show the game-breaking ability he had before he tore the patellar tendon in his knee. His final line was 39-586-1, and he'll be 31 in November. He could still be worth a WR5 flyer if he landed in the right situation.

Giants | Victor Cruz uncertain about return

Tue, 31 Jan 2017 09:01:43 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz wants to play out the final two years of his contract with the team, but he admits the "ball is in (the Giants') court" when it comes to sticking around. Cruz has a $9.4 million salary cap hit next season and will likely need to take a pay cut for the second straight season in order to stay. Cruz agreed to reduce his base salary from $7.9 million to $1.3 million for the 2016 season.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz is due a $1 million roster bonus on March 11, so that date could be one to remember in terms of his employment with the Giants. The odds are very strong he will be released sometime before then. Expect New York to address the position in the draft again this year after landing Sterling Shepard last spring.
