Wed, 15 May 2013 17:04:10 -0700 Cincinnati Bengals DL Michael Johnson, the team's franchise player, isn't worried about contract years. He said Wednesday, May 15, that he is focused on getting ready for the season, and all of the contract stuff will take care of itself. After bulking up last season, this offseason he has worked on movement and flexibility. "I'm still doing the same stuff, but this year I'm working on more flexibility. Staying loose and being mobile for as many weeks as we play," Johnson said. He has worked with DL Robert Geathers doing some yoga, and took a yoga class at Georgia Tech while working toward his business administration degree this summer.

Wed, 20 Feb 2013 10:10:35 -0800 Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said the team hasn't decided on whether to use the franchise tag. Impending free-agent DE Michael Johnson is the likely candidate to receive the tag, as there has been little traction in contract talks.
Tue, 19 Feb 2013 10:09:43 -0800 Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew once again reiterated that he has no plans to use the franchise tag on any of the team's players this offseason. Last year, the team placed the tag on DE Cliff Avril, but they would have to spend $12.7 million if they wanted to tag him again this season. S Louis Delmas (knees) would have been a candidate for the tag had he not injured both of his knees in the last two years. Detroit wants to re-sign Delmas, but to a short-term deal for less than the $6.8 million tag for safeties. The pool of free-agent safeties may be thin this year because of the cheap price to franchise them, and the Lions need to sign two safeties this offseason, which could drive up Delmas' price on the open market. DE Michael Johnson is a candidate for the franchise tag, too.

Fri, 15 Feb 2013 11:10:17 -0800 Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent DE Michael Johnson said he hopes to re-sign with the Bengals this offseason because he likes the direction the team is going. "We've got a good thing going. We've got to continue to improve, make some more strides and make even more noise. We've done a little bit but there's a lot more left to do. We've got a great group of young guys and I'm a part of that, and I look forward to continuing to be a part of that for many years to come," Johnson said. He said he would prefer a long-term contract over the franchise tag but understands that is not his decision.
