The Philadelphia Phillies recalled RP B.J. Rosenberg from Triple-A Lehigh Valley Friday, May 17, and optioned RP Raul Valdes to Lehigh Valley in a corresponding move.

The Philadelphia Phillies are expected to open the season with a seven-man bullpen. RPs Jonathan Papelbon, Mike Adams, Antonio Bastardo and Chad Durbin are locks to make the 25-man roster, leaving seven pitchers in camp to battle for the final three spots. RPs Phillippe Aumont, Jeremy Horst, Michael Stutes and Raul Valdes, along with non-roster invitee Ps Aaron Cook, Rodrigo Lopez and Zach Miner, will compete for those spots.

Philadelphia Phillies pitching coach Rich Dubee said the bullpen competition is about to heat up. RP Phillippe Aumont is really the only pitcher that may have jumped ahead of the competition, with RPs Jeremy Horst, Raul Valdes, Justin De Fratus, Michael Stutes and Jake Diekman battling for the other two spots. Ps Tyler Cloyd (forearm) and B.J. Rosenberg (triceps) threw bullpens Thursday, March 7, and are close to game action.

Philadelphia Phillies RP Michael Stutes (shoulder) is expected to be 100 percent healthy in spring training, according to general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. Stutes has been throwing bullpens for a while. RP Raul Valdes (knee) is also doing well and will be close to 100 percent healthy.

Philadelphia Phillies RP Raul Valdes (knee) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. The move is retroactive to Aug. 31. Valdes is scheduled to undergo surgery on his right knee Monday, Sept. 10.

Philadelphia Phillies C Brian Schneider (ankle) and RP Raul Valdes (hip) will begin rehab assignments this week. Schneider will go to Class A Clearwater Tuesday, July 24, and Valdes will pitch at Double-A Reading Wednesday, July 25.

The Philadelphia Phillies have placed RP Raul Valdes (hip) on the 15-day disabled list with a right hip strain. In a corresponding move, the team recalled RP Joe Savery from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
