Orioles | Matt Wieters takes a seat

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 14:44:51 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters is out of the lineup for Game 2 of a doubleheader Saturday, Oct. 3, with C Caleb Joseph hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) is facing hard-throwing Luis Severino, and there are better options on FantasyScore.

Orioles | Matt Wieters with off day

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 08:30:13 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters is out of the lineup Thursday, Oct. 1, with C Caleb Joseph hitting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) hit just .179 in September and isn't a real good option against Drew Hutchinson on FantasyScore.

Orioles | Matt Wieters not in the lineup

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 09:55:57 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters is not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Henry Owens Sunday, Sept. 27. C Caleb Joseph will start at catcher and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) likely will return to the lineup in the near future. Joseph ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) is hitting only .194 this month and is not a great starting option on FantasyScore.

Orioles | No Matt Wieters against Boston

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 14:19:40 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (wrist) is not in the starting lineup Friday, Sept. 25. C Caleb Joseph is starting behind the plate and batting sixth against Boston Red Sox SP Rich Hill Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Don't expect to see Wieters ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) against lefties anytime soon, as he has been experiencing wrist discomforting swinging from the right side of the plate. Jospeh ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) has some potential with a .760 OPS against left-handed pitchers this season, but he is far from a lineup priority at FantasyScore Friday.

Orioles | Matt Wieters sidelined Tuesday

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 13:07:12 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (wrist) is not playing Tuesday, Sept. 22, against the Washington Nationals. C Caleb Joseph is hitting sixth in place of Wieters, against Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is out for the second straight day. There are hopes he can return for the final game of the set against the Nationals on Wednesday, but keep an eye out. Joseph ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) should be a FantasyScore candidate, as he is 2-for-2 with a homer.

Orioles | Matt Wieters, Gerardo Parra out

Mon, 21 Sep 2015 13:23:18 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters and OF Gerardo Parra are not in the lineup against Washington Nationals left-handed SP Gio Gonzalez Monday, Sept. 21. OF Steve Pearce is starting in right field and hitting cleanup, while C Caleb Joseph draws the start behind the plate and is batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) is in a nice spot in the lineup, but he remains a deep sleeper on FantasyScore, especially with a .214 average (21-for-98) and four of his 13 home runs against left-handers this season. Joseph ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) isn't a terrible low-end catcher if you're looking to save money at the position on a day without many games. Joseph hit well earlier this year in place of Wieters and is hitting .270 (27-for-100) with four of his 11 homers against southpaws.

Orioles | Matt Wieters catching Saturday

Sat, 19 Sep 2015 12:46:00 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters will bat fifth and start behind the plate against Tampa Bay Rays SP Erasmo Ramirez Saturday, Sept. 19, with C Steve Clevenger serving as the designated hitter and batting fifth. C Caleb Joseph is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is just 1-for-14 over the past week and is 2-for-10 in his career against Ramirez, so he should be avoided in FantasyScore. Clevenger ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is 2-for-5 versus Ramirez and is hitting .306 for the season, so he could be a suitable backstop for owners in need of moderate cap relief.

Orioles | Matt Wieters sitting out vs. Rays

Fri, 18 Sep 2015 12:50:35 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters is not in the starting lineup Friday, Sept. 18. C Caleb Joseph is starting behind the plate and batting sixth against Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Wieters ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) in all fantasy formats Friday. He is struggling significantly in the second half with a .635 OPS and isn't worth a roster spot outside of cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues. Joseph ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) owns a .261/.261/.304 slash line over 24 plate appearances in September and is nothing more than a dice roll at FantasyScore Friday.

Orioles | Matt Wieters out vs. Boston

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 13:04:37 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 16. C Caleb Joseph is starting behind the plate and batting ninth against Boston Red Sox SP Henry Owens Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has been limited to seven games in September, as he continues to be a disappointing season-long own. Joseph ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) owns a .220/.250/.260 slash line over his past 15 games and is nothing more than a desperation flier at FantasyScore Wednesday.

Orioles | No Matt Wieters against Red Sox

Mon, 14 Sep 2015 12:14:11 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters is not in the starting lineup Monday, Sept. 14. C Caleb Joseph is starting behind the plate and batting sixth against Boston Red Sox SP Eduardo Rodriguez Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is reeling through a disappointing year and has just 18 RBI on the season. Injuries have played their role, but Wieters hasn't don't much while in the lineup, either. He is a fringe starting catcher in the majority of seasonal leagues. Jospeh ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) owns a .701 OPS against left-handed arms this season, and he should be viewed as a risky FantasyScore option Monday.
