Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (elbow) is scheduled to have Tommy John surgery on the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow Tuesday, June 17. His recovery time is expected to be nine months.

Fantasy Tip: You can safely drop Wieters in all redraft leagues. The good news is that he should be able to be ready to go for opening day in 2015. The Orioles, unless they make a play for a trade, are expected to continue on with a combination of Caleb Joseph, Steve Clevenger and Nick Hundley.

The Baltimore Orioles recalled C Caleb Joseph from Triple-A Norfolk Wednesday, May 7, and optioned 2B Jemile Weeks to Norfolk in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph will serve as catching insurance with Matt Wieters (elbow) ailing. Steve Clevenger's short-term value will go up in AL leagues if Wieters is forced to DH frequently.

According to a source, Baltimore Orioles C Caleb Joseph is headed to St. Petersburg, Fla. Tuesday, May 6, to join the team. He is expected to take the roster spot of C Matt Wieters (elbow) if he does not receive good news in his visit to Dr. James Andrews Wednesday, May 7.
